Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandCould hear the guests upstairs walking around in the early hours of the morning but I was in an older room yet to be soundproofed. Kids slept well so it didn't bother them.
What an awesome view of the mountains from the room! Lovely and warm with the heatpump. Cozy and enough space for me and my 2 teenage boys and they liked the bunk beds. I liked the layout of the rooms too and hoping you will keep some like this! Easy short walk to 4 square or ski hire. Thanks will stay again :)

New ZealandThe mattresses were a little too soft, and the top bunk didn’t have a safety rail, which felt unsafe. The stove was also under maintenance, so we couldn’t use it. Otherwise, everything was good.
The staff were very friendly and sent me all the information I needed before we headed to the chalet, including nearby restaurants and take-away shops, which I really appreciated.

New ZealandIt’s an old building so you’ll expect the soundproofing won’t be as great as newly built houses. But very considerate of them to provide ear plugs.
Clean, tidy and warm. Great view. Enough space for everyone.

New ZealandThe top bed of the bunk bed is not safe for kids to sleep, no protection bar on the side. And not suitable for adults either, ceiling is too low, adult can't sit up.
The location is absolutely the best. Easy parking. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Fast and efficient response. Hot water good, had a great shower after the cold snow play.

New ZealandThe rooms are small, but I knew that before arriving. For a couple, it is perfect, but for a family of 4, it is a bit cramped. However, it was perfectly fine for a few nights, and we were comfortable and warm, which is the most important.
Mary, the property manager is very kind and caring. She made sure I had all the information about the unit and surrounding areas before we arrived. The unit was very clean and cozy. They are in the middle of refurbishments, so the rooms are getting a facelift - can't wait to see it!

New ZealandWe stayed in room 11 on the top floor. The room was spacious yet cosy and warm. The view from the living area was expansive and captivating. And as the sun went down..from our room, we could see the lights of Whakapapa ski fields twinkling. The kitchen was perfect for what we needed and the bed was very comfortable. A lovely comfortable stay.

New ZealandOur stay was warm and comfortable. Located close to whakapapa ski field. Would definitely stay here again. Our car broke down and had to be towed, and Mary went above and beyond to offer any support she could, including links for shuttles, a later check out to catch a bus back to Auckland, and even a drop off to the bus station because it was raining - All on her own accord. Top hospitality!

New ZealandThe only fault would be a minor hole in the ceiling of the toilet (no leaks though), I've been told that the rooms are soon to be renovated, so I'm sure that'll be fixed in no time.
I liked the ease of checking in and out! It was nice to be able to go straight up to our room when we got there — the AC had also been turned on for us when we arrived which was great! The lady who was cleaning the room next to us when we left was also very nice 😊 The room was warm and clean and we had a good stay despite the weather.

New ZealandThe exterior of the buildings could do with some maintenance but the rooms I saw were fine.
Excellent location in town. Ask for a room back from the main highway though. Our room was recently renovated and modern. If you are doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the shuttle bus leaves from across the road.

New ZealandCan be a bit road noisy but with the window shut didn't bother us. As it's a motel catering for people who are early risers so there's no sleeping in if you're next to them. Fairly compact but you're not in them for long
Mary was very friendly and helpful. Good location in the village tho not right at Whakapapa, a few klms away. Walking distance to 4 square, restaurant, petrol station. Very comfy bed, good heating decent water pressure. Cooking facilities about to be upgraded. Great views from our room.

New ZealandNever met any staff. The only info provided in the room was the WiFi password. No info of check out process, rubbish bins etc. Walls were very thin. We were watching a movie and the neighbours knocked on our door asking us to be quite and this was before 10pm
Great location, walking distance to food spots. Had the little kitchenette so we could do our own meals

New ZealandAs mentioned the accommodation we stayed in was a bit dated, however we understand they are in a process of upgrading rooms, and we were offered an upgrade to a newly refurbished one - however due to the nice clean room and to die for view -we were happy as is :-)
We had a fantastic stay at Alpine Chalets. The host was very attentive and checked on us (via text) a couple of times, suggesting places to eat. The view (we had a mountain view room on the second floor) was spectacular and we were able to admire breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu. The grounds themselves we nice, lots of native trees with Kereru in a nearby tree. Although quite dated, the room was impeccably clean, bed comfortable, and we had everything we needed. If you are staying Friday or Saturday nights check out the Charm Thai caravan. Wonderful after a hike in the National Park.

NetherlandsThe bedding area can feel a little bit cramped when having a lot of stuff. Cooking works fine, but when you are very tall (1.90m+), not the most comfortable as the cabinets and fan are quite low.
The chalet is a good homebase to experience the Tongariro area. Possibility to cook in the chalet is a nice bonus, such that you can focus on experiencing the nature without worrying you also need to find a restaurant. Communication with the host Mary was very good, helping out when having questions and having a comfortable check-in.

SingaporeWe probably should have requested for a room on the ground level since we have large luggage (we were assigned level 2 for a room) but the view on the second floor is great (or would have been great - rainy and foggy when we were there). NOTE: soundproofing isn't too good so please be mindful of your TV, chatting and packing!
I love that it's convenient to access the trekking areas and sightseeing areas from the location. It's near to a petrol kiosk with a grocery store as well which makes it easy to prep food. Microwave and fridge included. Has sinks and your utensils, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and there's cooking utensils provided. There's also some teas, coffee and hot chocolate provided as well. Note that there are no pots and pans, and no stove for cooking BUT the host was great to go out of the way provide one for us (we didn't read the note sent to us upon booking properly). Now they are revamping the space and building proper stovetops in the rooms for easy cooking, so check with them to see when it's completed, if not you would have to request for a plug in stove top, which is not difficult to use! And they even provided hairdryers (which I didn't manage to find - it's a first come first served basis), but you would have to take from their laundry room and return it for the rest to use. Parking provided at the location. Heater in room and water heater works really well and we didn't feel cold during our stay and it was really chilly at night. You can see lots of stars at night if you don't mind being out in the cold for a while.
