Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe walls/floors are pretty thin. If one group of guests is particularly rowdy they'll be a nuisance to everyone else staying at the property.
Linda is a lovely host, the house is beautiful.

New ZealandEverything was great!
My second time here and it was as great as the first time I stayed. It is rare to find a property that warrants 10 out of 10, but this is one, for sure! A truly lovely heritage house with very attentive staff, wonderfully clean rooms, and great facilities. It has an ambience and charm that is calm, quiet and peaceful, reminiscent of a different era. It is also in a very convenient location in Market Road, very close to the motorway. Thanks so much!

AustraliaThe number of security cameras in the shared areas was a bit off putting but understandable when host is off site. Do not recommend the Chinese/fish & chip shop over the bridge on the left for fish and chips - all batter and no fish.
Stunning property, gorgeous rooms, spacious and everything you need. Communal kitchen. We had the whole place to ourselves! Great parking, walking distance to food venues.

New ZealandThe shower had no hot water, just warm. The bed was a little on the stringy side, getting old. We chose Aachen House because my husband received day surgery at the Skin Specialists nearby. It was his wish to return to our room and quietly watch TV. Unfortunately there was no free to air TV. The house is cold in winter, impossible to heat an old colonial, I know. It's part of the charm but visitors accustomed to heating may be unimpressed.
The room was large, nicely appointed and private.

New ZealandThere was a kitchen with a stove and everything, but you’re not allowed to use the stove, to cook on it. I would have liked to know that BEFORE coming to the property.
The property is nice and clean, the bed is comfortable and the whole vibe is interesting because of a mix of a Victorian kinda house but many Chinese interior artifacts in it. It’s a bit kitschy because of that, but overall feels nice.

New ZealandI'm almost reluctant to post this review - i would love to keep this my secret, however that would not be fair on Michael and Linda. Two amazing hosts and great communicators. Every room in this delightful residence are a feature on their own. The grandeur makes me feel very special every time i stay here. If you would like to step back in time and have a real treat, then book away

New ZealandNothing, it was perfect!
The onsite parking fit the bill perfectly for location to hop onto the train for CBD. The house is stunning and shared kitchen facilities are lovely. The wifi and TV worked well. It was a nice quiet location without much noise from other guests. Calming vibes. Comfy bed, warm room, big bathroom. Nice supplies in the bathroom. We would love to stay again.

New ZealandEverything was great
Such an incredibly beautiful heritage building and it is kept in impeccable order. I loved the access to a lovely kitchen and a simple breakfast. My room was delightful with a gracious ambience and a large window looking out to trees and greenery. Linda had the heat pump on so it was nice and warm. It was a very wet stormy day, Linda came down to the car park to greet me and took my luggage to my room. The ensuite bathroom was spacious and everything was sparkling clean. It's been a long time since I have stayed in accommodation of such a high standard and so obviously loved by it's owners. Thank You!!

New ZealandNothing- all that was missing was maybe flannels/ facecloths provided with the other towels for the bathroom. Heated towel rail didn't seem to be working or able to be turned on but not a biggie.
Such a lovely grand old place! Our second visit and will be back😊 Comfortable warm, clean and spacious. Large rooms all with their own character, huge ensuite bathrooms, a real treat. Such great value, easy to get to ,no hastles with parking...handy to motorway and group of shops, nice restaurants not far away.

FranceBeautiful old house with character, very well decorated inside. The room was spacious and comfortable. Linda is a very nice host. The location is very quiet and very convenient : you can park your car at the house and use the close by train station, with direct trains to downtown. Everything I needed to prepare my breakfast was available in the common kitchen. I enjoyed my stay at the Aachen house.

AustraliaThe magnificent old home is lovely however need to realise that because of its age you will hear people walking around above your room if you're on ground floor (limited soundproofing) Unfortunately we were unwell so couldn't make use of the fantastic location and access to all Auckland has to offer
We were welcomed warmly and bags carried in and car parked for us. Our room was bright and spacious and on ground floor with lovely outlook to back garden. Communal kitchen and food prep area clean and spacious A number of eating places of various cuisines within walking distance, and fabulous access to public transport ( train) to get into centre of Auckland
