Not in the tourist trap

had a wonderful stay at Swagat Home Stay in Kathmandu. The location is excellent — tucked in a quiet alley in the heart of the city, it offers a peaceful retreat while still being close to everything you need. Unlike the busy Thamel area, staying here gave us a more authentic experience of local life. Shops, food stalls, and daily necessities were all just a short walk away. What made the stay truly special was the warm hospitality. The host lady prepared delicious homemade breakfasts for us every morning and always welcomed us with a smile. She took time to chat with us, sharing stories about Nepali culture and giving helpful travel tips. Her kindness and care really made us feel at home. If you’re looking for a place that’s affordable, peaceful, and filled with heart, I highly recommend Swagat Home Stay.

Nice and cosy place with very welcoming hosts! We had great talks about lots of things! Big plus : there is a small kitchen where you can cook ;-)

The overall feeling is like to have a sleepover at your friends house. Welcoming family, always smiling and have kind words to everyone. The owner prepares the breakfast and after asking where can we find mangoes she bought for us the next morning. If you ask for recommendations from the owners they can advise which places worth visiting. (temples, restaurants, Bazaar, and more) Fabulous place, RECOMMENDED 👌👌👌

Ideal location and very well maintained

I had the pleasure of being hosted by Sugat and Roshani. I was welcomed more like a friend than a guest. Thank you, it was a fantastic experience, I can't wait to return.

so glad I read reviews and chose Swagat homestay as my first stop in Nepal. everything was great from pick up at airport till when I left 4 days later. Away from the tourist area you get the feeling you are accepted by locals as just another person. A reasonable hike into town if you like walking or there are options to make it easier. Sugat and Roshani are a fountain of info and really personable. I will come back here after my stint at Kopan Monastery.

Nothing to complain about, I suppose a bit of a walk to restraunts but discoverying more as time passes.

It’s like visiting the home of super friendly friends who give you great advice, are incredibly welcoming, and even make you a delicious and healthy breakfast! We had such a great time. The neighborhood felt so genuine, full of real places and people, not some fake tourist version for Westerners. Really happy we stayed here!

I had a lovely time staying at this homestay. Sugat and Roshani are amazing hosts and made me feel very comfortable, and they are great to chat to in the mornings over breakfast. They also kindly kept my luggage safe while I went trekking. It’s a beautiful house in a nice relaxed neighbourhood. It’s also very close to the airport so a perfect place to stay after or before a flight.

Everything was perfect

Homstay owners are super nice. The owner gave me a lot of useful information about the area, currency exchange, bus to Pokhara. It is possible to pick up from the airport ($ 15) and there was no problem with early check in. The room was very cozy with warm water. And tasty breakfast The neighborhood is quiet and safe.

How extremely helpful the host and hostess are and the property’s location for me was splendid. Breakfast with a smile and a chat each morning. I will be back :)

The owner was so caring and treated you as a family member. The facility is so cleaned and comfortable. Besides that it is near to the airport.

GREAT, GREAT that was our stay and to short. Sugat and his wife are the PERFECT host. Near the main street but no traffic noise. Sugat explane everything you want to hear and is very helpfull. We where the first guests off 2025 so we get a free room update. Also he has on 7 min with taxi a very good restaurant. Recommend Swagat Home Stay 1000% to everyone

Electricity is reliable, and the internet connection is fast and stable. Breakfast is excellent, and there’s always free drinking water available for guests. The hotel is located in a quiet area, tucked away from the noise of the main streets. It’s about a 30-minute walk to Thamel and just a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the airport, which typically costs 500-700 rupees. This is a wonderful place to stay, and I can confidently recommend it. You’ll leave with only positive impressions!

Cosy, and homey. Sugat and his wife Roshani make you feel like their home is yours. They are so personable with you and always ready to help, be it by making a fresh breakfast each morning or give you tips on Kathmandu or anything else you may need. This really is the perfect relaxed and welcoming place to stay in Kathmandu.
