Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe room was loud as the windows to the outside balcony did not fully close and other guests were there at night.
We enjoyed our stay here, the room was clean however it was a bit loud at night from others guests sitting right outside the windows. The breakfast was incredible- so delicious!! The staff were very helpful and willing to organise any tour we needed.

BangladeshWhile our stay at Shangrila Boutique Hotel had its positives, several issues negatively impacted our experience: 1. Hot Water Problems: We faced issues with hot water in the bathroom twice during our stay. As we usually shower at night, both my wife and I had to endure icy cold showers. Unfortunately, the issue was only resolved on the day we checked out, which was too late to benefit us. 2. Missing Amenities: The room description mentioned a heater and a hot kettle, but neither was provided. As a result, we felt quite cold at night, which made our stay less comfortable. 3. Currency Conversion and Payment Issues: Booking.com does not show the amount in Nepalese currency, and the hotel converted the USD amount at a higher-than-market rate, causing us to pay more than anticipated. On top of that, when I opted to pay by card, they added a 5% surcharge, citing it as a bank charge. This was particularly disappointing, as none of the other hotels we stayed at imposed such fees. Afterward, I paid in cash at a higher exchange rate. These issues, particularly the missing amenities and payment policies, detracted from an otherwise decent stay.
Shangrila Boutique Hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu, is truly a great value for money. We were very pleased with what we got during our stay. The staff was really friendly. A special mention goes to the owner, who is incredibly friendly and always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone. This hotel combines excellent service with a welcoming atmosphere.

United StatesNothing. Everything was perfect!
I and my friend loved the morning breakfasts on the rooftop. We loved the room with comfy beds, and especially all the assistance we got from the front desk. No matter what questions we asked, we got good advice and help. We went on a short trip to Pokhara, and we could store some luggage until we came back. I highly recommend this hotel.

Hong KongLower bunk bed put on a curtain as picture shown in website would be nice.
Lovely roof top area to relax and enjoy full breakfast including juice, fruits with different menu everyday served with a smile. Comfortable bed, shared bathroom with hot shower, free drinking water refill is a bonus. Hotel room is being under renovation work so would be a bit paint smell and dusty. Dorm room side along in an alley with motorbike parking would be noisy at night when engine starts.

United StatesNo heating. Typical for budget hostels. We were there in Jan. Had to wear a bulk of clothes to stay warm. Shower wasn't always hot. Had to tell the front desk, but they worked the problem each time. It's basic. Note, it is not even close to as comfortable as the photos show it. Still, at that price range accommodations, I would recommend it!
Wonderful rooftop patios. Great for breakfast socializing or hanging out above the streets of Kathmandu. Can walk to Katmandu Durbar Square once you get the routing out using an app like Mapquest or Google maps. Thamel shopping close by and there are many tasty restaurants. The staff was diligent. It felt save. Only one way in past the front desk in a narrow passage. There was always someone there.

GermanyThe beds can be a little bit too hard for some people.
I had an absolute great stay at Shangrila-la. The stuff is super friendly and will always help you with anything. The manager of the hotel can help you with plans or trips around Nepal so you will get amazing expierences. Sometimes it can get a little bit noisy in the night, but the Hotel is placed in a quiet street just next to Thamel. So it could be worse. Overall I had a great time and will gladly come back :)
