Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe heater in our room didn’t work.
It was clean and located well for our purposes. The room was bigger than many Norwegian hotels. The breakfast was excellent. There were chargers available for our car.

United StatesYou’re paying for the location and the fact that it’s a popular and accessible tourist destination. It is overpriced for the room, but it is a good overnight during the Norway in a nutshell tour. There wasn’t a closet in the room, just a few hooks and three hangers by the door. Also the bathroom was tiny.
The room is large by European standards, and the kitchen has everything we needed to cook a basic meal. There’s a small grocery store within walking distance, and the hotel itself has three restaurants. Gudvagen is very small but everything you need for a short stay is nearby. I don’t think there was AC, but we didn’t need it. The breakfast is held in the main dining room with skylights and overlooking the fjord.

United StatesWe were expecting the “toiletries included” to include at least shampoo. Instead there was only liquid hand wash in the shower. Some of the staff were not very friendly (but some were great). Considering the price, these were unexpected disappointments. For comparison, we also stayed in Flåm, for a similar price, with impeccable service and amenities.
Clean, comfortable, well-located. Nice beds and shower.

AustraliaThe hotel rooms are up the road from Reception. Our room was some 400m away. We were lucky that the weather was kind but I am not sure what I would have felt the same if it was raining or worse.
The hotel is a good option, rather than staying in Flam. We travelled both ways by ferry which was great, but there is also an issue excellent bus available. Our room was a newly renovated studio with an excellent bathroom. We had half board and the meals were acceptable.

United KingdomAll was great.
Incredible location, at the end of the Fjord, just next to pier and waterfront. Excellent restaurant for dinner and a buffet breakfast on offer for breakfast. Room was very clean and had all amenities one could really hope for. Fantastic cafe/bakery too. Restaurants on offer are three and serve meat, seafood and pizza. They shut at time of writing at 9pm.

ItalyI stayed in one of the property's apartments. It was comfortable and clean. Just a little far from the breakfast room, but I was satisfied because everything I had booked was actually there during my stay. Breakfast is truly rich in dishes, foods and drinks.

United StatesJust a few nitpicky things… first, the featured photos with the skylight looking up at the fjord walls with Viking themed rooms are few & far between. There’s a good chance that’s not your property. The breakfast buffet was a giant disappointment by European standards. There were few items to chose from, the coffee was like gas station coffee & it was shoehorned into a space that leads to guests tripping into one another.
Location, Location, Location! The restaurant food was outstanding (seafood restaurant outside the main lobby area). The staff was very friendly.

United KingdomThe bathroom was poorly ventilated and lacked hair conditioner. Breakfast was disappointing compared to everywhere else we have stayed. Plastic egg cups and wooden spoons to eat the eggs. Sad apples and tinned fruit cocktail. Expensive for what was offered.
our room was clean and well equipped. The location was really a ferry terminal at the end of the fjord; very busy with people getting on and off boats.

United StatesThe rooms were very small. During the summer rooms can get very hot and there is no AC. Some rooms have a partially open ceiling which is likely great during the winter. However, during the summer there is light most of the night and makes it difficult to sleep. It also makes the rooms hotter. Breakfast was average. Staff was not friendly

United StatesHotel lobby was not easy to find. Our room was a bit of a walk from the hotel lobby, which wasn’t great with all our bags. Pretty pricey! Be aware that most rooms are not a Viking themed room, and those that are have little privacy from all the tourists milling about the area.
Stunning location. Friendly staff. Food (dinner and breakfast) was decent. Worth the splurge for a unique location.
