How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The staff were a bit hard to find when checking in and out. The rooms on the ground floor have a balcony but this is on a busy road, so not very pleasant. It is quite far from the town centre, but there are good bus lines.
This is a lovely old hotel on the river. The breakfast is wonderful, and in a nice setting overlooking the water. The room is spacious and comfortable. There are two places to choose for evening meal.

The gym is atrocious - probably the worst gym I have seen in a hotel that claims it has a gym. No weights, equipment is broken / not operational. You really need to fix this for travelers who need to keep fit while away from home.

The hotel is lovely, right on a canal, with a restaurant overlooking it (I only had drinks and fries here but they were good and during the day the service was great). The room was a good size and the beds comfy. The staff were nice and helpful. Easy to get to from downtown Leiden by bus or bike, the walk is about 45 minutes but nice.

I am in a wheelchair and there was only a wheelchair lift, which makes it difficult to take your luggage up.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice at an extensive buffet. The staff was very friendly.

Our room was at the end of the hall on the second floor and not easy to get to as you could not exit from the stairwells. The room was comfortable and everything else was perfect.
It was good Outside of Leiden in a good area.

Something very trivial, no toaster in breakfast room and shower was a bit cramped.
It was a perfect stay. We have stayed before so really knew everything to expect. Ideal location for the Centre. Bus service was excellent. Hired bikes from hotel and cycle routes were perfect. Room was very nice. Staff were great, very friendly and helpful. Food was good, breakfast was great.

I did not appreciate the difficulty of the parking of cars in the city of Leiden.
All staff friendly, and helpful, and spoke English to a high standard willingly. Restaurant a real joy, re-quality of service , the menus, and pricing, thank you.

It’s far from the center if you do not have a car. As someone who had meetings in Leiden center it was a bit of a hassle. But the room size and comfort made up for it.
Room was spacious, the buffet breakfast area was nice, bike rental option was also great. The bus is very accessible, across the street from the hotel and takes you straight to Leiden Center.

The gym was too small, and very limited equipment. The weather was good so I had the option of going for a run in the surrounding neighborhood (lots of cycling so I'm assuming its safe) but could not (time challenges)
The patio is quite nice beside the canal, watching the boats while you have a meal is quite nice. The historic properties of the structure were integrated quite well into a modern twist. The food was very good, the bar was reasonable, the staff were very friendly and helpful (I forgot my travel adapter and they had a spare one they let me use).

Ideal location with direct buses into Ghent central bus statiion and back, running up until past midnight, journey taking under 10 mins. Good coffee facilities in room.

The hotel seemed to be short of staff and tried to reduce room cleaning. Would have been happy for towels to be left but room serviced but that option did not seem to be available.
Room was good size. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast buffet had a good selection if a little pricey.
