Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Netherlands- It's clearly a very old hotel that did not get renovated anymore in a very long time. I don't necessarily mind, however you can hear each and every sound coming from the neighbours (footsteps, conversations, etc). - My pillow was very empty. It felt like I was sleeping directly on the mattress. In the middle of the night I woke up with some pain in my neck. - The bathroom slightly had a smell of old cigarette smoke. - Their was some left-over food from the previous people that stayed in our room in the fridge.
- The location was exactly what we were looking for. A small island with an authentic village vibe, some nice restaurants and surrounded by nature. - The staff is exceptionally friendly. We were not aware that the breakfast was included (on Booking.com it was not clearly mentioned) so when we had already returned to our car, one of the staff members approached us to ask if we did not want to have breakfast since it was included in the stay.

NorwayThe hotel could have a small shop in the lobby as the island Kaag does not have any shops at all. Aslo the room would be more comfortable with the ac working.
I used this hotel while working at the shipyard nearby, and this hotel is just a short walk away. The staff is very friendly and the rooms, however rustique, was up to standard.

Czech RepublicHaving to pay for the ferry every day can be a bit annoying, but overall, the experience is still very nice and worth recommending. There isn’t much to do on the island itself — originally, we planned to walk around it, but the circular path was closed due to bird nesting.
It’s clearly an older hotel, but everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. The breakfasts were great, and the staff (especially the guy at breakfast) was superb. Keukenhof is close by, and Leiden is also a very nice city to visit. The "ferry" you take to the Kaag hotel is a fun curiosity for kids. It operates 24/7, is quick, and costs €5.50 per car (as of April 2025). Payment is made on the way back to the mainland.

United KingdomThe bedrooms are on the first and second floors accessed by external spiral stairs and decks. Not handy for moving luggage or if you suffer from vertigo.
Hotel Orion was chosen as it was close to our cycle route between Rotterdam and Itmuiden. It is on an interesting island served by a short ferry journey which runs 24 hours. Kaag Island has a village on it (Kaag), which although having an enormous ship yard, is a quiet traditional village with thatched cottages, a hotel, and bar/restaurants looking over the lake. It is the centre for many water sports. The hotel is quiet, unusual, and well priced. The host is welcoming and helpful.

United KingdomOnce you've crossed over onto the island, there are no local amenities apart from an Italian restaurant, which was lovely in terms of service and food.
Very comfortable hotel, with cosy beds in a lovely and quiet little island. Beautiful scenery and friendly people. Breakfast was nice too.

NetherlandsOn booking.com the hotel says they have an open resraurant during my stay, however the resraurant seems to be permanently closed on certain days (including the wednesday i was gere). I had to rush to a local restaurant and beg to eat, as it was already 20h30 by the time i found them and they were closing up. Further the hospitality of the hotel is not on par with the rest of NL. The breakfast buffet was skimpy with nearly no options. The hotel room is from the 50s with a hard bed. Its not recommended for business travellers.
