Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe mini-fridge was dirty and didnt cool at all. Also the shower is uncomfortable if you dont want to get you hair wet, this is horrible for people with curly hair. Really missed a handheld shower therefor. Also the cafe staff is out and about early, so sleeping a bit late is not really an option, since it is an old building, so sound travels freely.
The location is amazing, the trust they have in their guests as well, as they give the key to the café to get in after hours. The bed was comfortabel, the tea and coffee station nice.

AustraliaThis quirky accommodation above the cafe was just what we needed at the end of our trip. From the spiral stairwell to the comfortable room, it was lovely. A great breakfast is available at the cafe also.

United StatesThe street noise is minimal but in evenings, noticable at evening/late night. A larger fan might help with producing "white" noise to circulate air when days are warm and the windows are open. Everything else was splendid!
Location is excellent and kitchenette was stocked with coffee and tea; ample pots, dishes, and silverservice to make simple food. Staff was outstanding and very helpful when we interacted before and during our stay. You will climb stairs with this stay. Toast cafe below offers delicious and fantastic breakfast and lunch food options. Cozy!

United KingdomIt wasn't a big deal for us but the room is up some quite narrow and steep stairs. Also the toilet is very small which might be an issue for some people. The location does mean there's potential for noise from the pedestrian street outside. We avoided the weekend so it wasn't too bad, just a few people walking past being a bit loud after an evening out. Earplugs are provided. The location isn't directly near to any late bars or restaurants though which helps.
The location is really good, near to loads of places to eat and drink. The attached "Toast" café downstairs serves excellent food and they do a great flat white. Everyone on the café team were really helpful and friendly right from the moment we arrived. They were happy to store our bags while we explored the area before our official check-in time.

NetherlandsIt can get a bit noisy but it was within expectation. The bathroom is a bit cramped and needs a better door. For those who mind brightness in the morning bring a sleep mask.
The host was very friendly and welcoming. We got a free bottle of wine on arrival. The place is cute and well decorated. Clean as well. Location is great. Haven't tried the food sadly, but it looks and smells great!

United KingdomWould have liked a fan or better ventilation through the back, but it was very warm during the stay. I don't think air-conditioning is necessary. Perhaps one brighter light or lamp in the room. Not everyone is onscreen all the time.
Great location, friendly staff, you can self-cater to a point but breakfast and daytime food is just downstairs so why bother? I liked the stained glass window behind the bed, very colourful.

United KingdomRoom was very hot. We were told that a heater in the room was also a fan. It wasn't. As our room was on the top floor it really needed a good fan. The owner purchased a fan for our second night which helped a lot.
Right near the town centre.

United StatesLike other reviewers said, the toilet kinda tips, but just be a bit careful when using it. The staircase is also kind of narrow (narrower than other spots we stayed at in Europe) - not a huge issue but just made bringing up our luggage a bit challenging - but just something you should know if you are staying there to keep the luggage light! They did help us bring it up, so that was great! I just would've packed differently if I knew how narrow the staircase was.
I loved that it was on top of their super cute restaurant. To me it added a cute little experience and making the location so central! The host was so great and friendly and they were quick to answer any questions we had. The room itself is so charming - perfect for a couple and a few nights. It was exactly what we needed for our overnight stay in Harleem. Thank you for welcoming us and also, the pup is a great adorable host!

Loved the room, good value, comfortable bed, central, nice decor, thankyou for leaving bottle wine. Sadly didn't have time to try the breakfasts.

AustraliaSmall downside is that the storeroom for the cafe is in the next room to the Orange room so you hear the staff going to and from the room from an early hour of the morning. It’s not a problem if you are an early riser though and earplugs are provided to combat that.
The location is ideal for exploring the beautiful town of Haarlem. The bed was very comfortable and the decor of the Orange room is beautifully done. The food at Toast is lovely as were all the staff.

CanadaWhen we booked the accommodation it was clearly indicated as a B&B. When we arrived we were told that breakfast was not included in the price but available to he purchased in the restaurant downstairs. I think the booking information should clearly indicate that breakfast is not included in the cost of the room. I see on Booking.com that it is listed as "Toast by night" now. As noted, it was listed as Toast B&B when we booked.
The location was excellent

CanadaThe toilet in the room is in a very small closet a couple feet from the bed which could be uncomfortable for some. There is some foot traffic right outside the door fairly often, though this may only be an issue for people wanting a lot of privacy.
A very nice building in the center of beautiful Haarlem. Owners Sabine and Wouter were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The cafe downstairs is very cozy and the food is delicious. There was a bottle of wine included in the room which was nice!

United KingdomThe shower could do with de-limescaling, and the hand held shower head was removed which was a shame. The toilet in the orange room wobbled when you sit on it which is slightly disconcerting!
