Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere needs to be a better description about the stairs. If you are older or have large suitcases, it would be very difficult to get up the winding narrow stairs.
Room was small but very comfortable.

Charming boutique hotel at heart of Leiden! Very close to museums and the university, at the heart of everything on a lovely, cobbled street. Really loved it!

United KingdomThe staircase was incredibly steep, our room was on the second floor and there was no lift. No help was offered to take our luggage to the room.
The location was perfect as we were participating in the half marathon. There were plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance.

NetherlandsMy room was on a second floor. Physical access to the room is uncomfortable and dangerous because of the very steep steps and very narrow stairwell, especially when carrying luggage. Although check-in was very easy and convenient, I did miss having personal contact with someone at check-in. The bathroom is pretty but very small. As the door opens against the rest of the bathroom and hits the sink cabinet, you cannot pass around it to get into the shower if you're inside the bathroom. Instead, you need to get out of the bathroom and open the shower door in order to get into the shower. This is a small detail which can be easily improved by changing the swinging direction of the door.
Comfortable bed, great location, well equipped room.

BelgiumEven by Dutch standards, the stairs to our room were very steep and hard to access with luggage. The bed set up isn't ideal either as there is no space around it, so if there are two of you it's not great for getting in and out (especially from the far side). Looking at the pictures I think this issue is probably only in this particular second floor room, however.
This is a lovely hotel in a great location. The owner is friendly, helpful and responsive. The espresso machine was a welcome feature. The shower is great and the under floor heating in the bathroom was also impressive.

ItalyBeing the building historical, the staircase was very steep and narrow. It was not a problem for me but it is not easy to climb it if you have a large suitcase.
The property and atmosphere is very charming and cozy and the location is super convenient in the heart of Leiden historical district. The room was vary nice and comfortable, quiet at night, with a nice desk that was very useful for my work trip. Its size exceeded my expectations. The bed was also very comfortable.

United KingdomRoom was big and spacious with a good sized bathroom and a Nespresso coffee machine. Located in a lovely part of town by Pieterskerk - pretty cobbled streets nearby and lots of nice cafes and bars too. Stairs are quite steep to the room but you get used to them, and there aren't many. Staff were helpful about us leaving luggage before/after check in. Easy check in and a nice stay.

South AfricaTravelers need to know that when you stay in a historical hotel in the Netherlands, there are very, very steep spiral staircases to get to your room. Not many have lifts or luggage lifts, there is just no space. So if you are elderly, not fit and have very large suitcases, you are not going to manage. If you are very tall & you stay in the attic you are going to be bumping your head.
It was very well situated.

IrelandThe room was a bit too small for two people. We had no major issues with the narrow and steep staircase, but it might be difficult to climb for some people. There is a busy bar very near the hotel so the area can be very noisy at night, so one would need noise cancelling earplugs to be able to sleep.
Excellent location, close to the university, city centre and train station. Nice breakfast with very good quality ingredients; elegant breakfast room. Staff helpful and friendly. Excellent hassle-free check-in/check-out system.

CanadaThere’s no reception desk or person to greet you and provide advice. Also, anyone with mobility problems would struggle to climb the tiny circular staircase. Street facing room can be noisy (pub on street corner). Garden room was quiet.
