The location was perfect and very central. Our group had three of the four rooms at the Bambu Sleep Boutique. Two of them, (the pink and yellow rooms) were at the back with no view but room 3 (blue room) had a fantastic view overlooking the square. The staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful, especially in sending back something I left in the room.

With it being an old building the stairs were steep and narrow which took some getting used to. The restaurant doesn't do breakfast but we managed with supermarket provisions as there were fridges in the rooms.

The room was cozy and relaxing. The hotel is located in the heart of the city center, and while you thought it would be noisy, it was not. The staff was kind, friendly, and helpful. Haarlem is a great city and I love any chance I get to go and explore the area.

The Dutch stairs used to access my room, but the building is historic, and they are part of its fabric.

Perfect location at the heart of the Square, super lit till late at night, in the heart of the city and literally minutes away from everything (including the railway station that you can take and be in other cities in less than 30 min combined). Super friendly staff, and eager to help when needed. Also, the room (I had booked Nr 1) was much bigger than expected, much lighter and had plenty of space to walk around as well :))) Loved that there were many Radios on the TV that made the stay even better. And on top of everything, there was a cafe machine, and also had complimentary tea at my service. Though I did not use them, they were a nice touch for anyone who drinks coffee or tea and has it handy early in the morning.

Though I loved the stay, there were 3 things which made it less than perfect. 1) the bathroom was ok-ish, but compared to the size of the room it was super small; someone with claustrofobic problems should be aware of this 2) one of the covers had smth that looked like coffee stains. Hopefully this is what they were and nothing else. 3) incredibly noisy and the year plugs did not help. I have been in multiple places with rooms facing crowded streets or squares, but the noise from people partying til after midnight does not compare to the early morning one. There were terraces outdoors that made incredible noise starting with 5:45 every day as they were araging tables and chairs and woke us all and the entire neighborhood at dawn every single day. So, if you have trouble sleeping and even the slightest noise wakes you up, then this place is not for you. It's tiring waking up around 6 every morning when you're on vacation and want to sleep till later.

The room was spacious and the bathroom clean with an effective shower. I really appreciated the Air-conditioning on a hot weekend and I slept well with a comfy bed. The service was excellent with the bed made and the room tidied. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The spoke English which I was extra thankful for.

The staircase is very steep and quite hard to see the steps in the dark. The risk of slipping felt a little unnerving. There are useful handrails to help. The overhang above the toilet was a bit of an obstacle as I found it to be difficult to get around to use the loo. Outside the view was of venting and brickwork, no real view at all.

    Location.

Shower had no shelf, i.e. no place to put soap, shampoo, etc. Only view from windows was of a lot of pigeon droppings. Creepy pigeon noises in the roof woke us up early. Ceiling over bed was sloped on one side; getting in and out of bed required crouching. The hotel's "lobby" is actually a bar in a restaurant. We had to wait awhile to check-in because the staff was busy making cocktails.

It’s located right in the Old Town Square with a lot of food and drink options all around it.

Mattress was not comfortable so couldn’t get good sleep. Plus, no elevator.

The owners of the Bambu were right there and available daily. They worked at the restaurant below. They were very nice and extremely hospitable. The upscale restaurant was a nice plus. We ate there and liked it.

We didn't mind there was no elevator. The area is very historic. The building was over 500 years old. The stairs were very, very steep. At 68 years old it was a bit of a challenge. The owners helped us bring our luggage up. The partying people outside keep loud until after 4am! I brought my own special ear plugs and couldn't hear them unless I took them out.

The location on Grote Markt was fantastic. The restaurant downstairs was great and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room had a comfortable bed and a modern TV. The mini fridge was a welcome addition.

Like many old buildings in the area, it had very steep stairs, which wasn't a big deal for us, but if you have mobility issues, it could be a challenge. The wardrobe was a very narrow afterthought which did not allow for unpacking a couple's clothes even for 3 nights. Our garret room had a large footprint, but due to the sloping walls, felt a little cramped at the same time. There was no real room to store suitcases and make proper use of the table and chairs.

    Property response:

Dear Alan, Thank you very much for your kind and honest review! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the location, the restaurant, and our service. We appreciate your comments about the room layout and the steep stairs – due to the historic nature of the building, we understand it can be less practical at times. We'll certainly keep your feedback in mind to improve future stays. We hope to welcome you again sometime!

The location was absolutely amazing! Very central and close to bars and restaurants and shops.

Well firstly the room desperately needed a freshen up. It looked like it had been painted decades ago and it was SO dark. The colour wouldn’t have been so bad if the lighting was adequate, but even with all the lights on, it was still impossible to see anything. Secondly the room would have benefitted from a full length mirror. There was the perfect space on the wall next to the bathroom door, but there was only a small high up mirror there. We were going to a party and had to take photos of each other to see what we looked like! And lastly, the fridge didn’t work. In fact, anything in it actually became WARMER, so clearly there was something very wrong with it. But apart from these few issues, we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay 😃

Room was very pleasant. Huge windows.

The room was clean but the rug was dirty and the blanket on the bed should be discarded. It was disgusting. Front room was noisy in the morning. Start setting up chairs around 6:00 am.
