The beds were uncomfortable and hard. My partner had a bad motorcycle accident a few months ago and these single beds did not help after a long day of driving dirt roads.

Maltahöhe Hotel – where time slows down, the desert breeze drifts in, and the bar looks like it’s seen a few wild stories (and probably started most of them). This charming old-school spot in the heart of Namibia has a quirky character all its own – part historic pitstop, part curious time capsule. Our room was clean and neat, with a bathroom that did the job, but the beds... let’s just say they weren’t quite cloud-like. Dinner in the restaurant was decent – not quite Michelin-star material, but it filled the gap. The real gem, though? The bar. A wonderfully weird little watering hole packed with personality and the perfect place to swap road trip tales over a cold one. All in all, a nostalgic stop with charm, character, and a few creaky corners – perfect for the curious traveller.

Very pleasant experience. We (me, my son, daughter-in-law and children aged 12 and 14) were expecting to arrive from Windhoek around 7:30pm. I received a WhatsApp message at 5:30pm and was advised that the restaurant kitchen would close at 7:30, so I asked for the menu and was sent 3 delicious specials and I placed our orders). We arrived and were the only table which was set up for us and the food was great. The manager was very hospitable and gave us a lot of information about the town and its development program to become a distribution hub among other ideas. Rooms were comfortable and we left in the morning after a pleasant breakfast.

Functioning aircon would have been appreciated - or even a fan in the room.

We were not expecting much - just a stopover in a small town - but it turned out to be a pleasant stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was good and we had a very tasty supper. It was extremely hot and the aircon didn't work, despite our best efforts. We slept with open windows which led to being eaten alive by mosquitos.

There is no kettle in the rooms do you can’t make tea or coffee. This might be useful. The WiFi isn’t reliable.

The place is clean and well located. The staff were very friendly. The food is good. The pool is refreshing. The air conditioning is great. We stayed to go to Sosousvlei. It’s a bit of trek but it’s the closest accommodation we could find for visiting the vlei but it was worth it.

The room is small and basic with no WiFi or TV (free WiFi is available at the bar/restaurant area) which is fine for an overnight stay. The beds were really hard but some might prefer a very firm mattress. There is no coffee or kettle in the room but it can be provided at the restaurant. No drinks or food allowed in the room or a penalty fee is charged. The shower didn't have a curtain or shower door so the floor got really wet!

The hotel is the oldest country hotel in Namibia and is in good condition for its age. The bar and restaurant are great. We had a fantastic dinner, it was their Gemsbok/Oryx chefs special which was delicious. The staff were kind enough to accommodate our very late check-in and early checkout.

Dinner was a bit underwhelming and breakfast was expensive for what was on offer.

A pleasant place to overnight, with lots of interesting historical stuff from the colonial period. We were lucky enough to arrive while the nearby (40km away) lily pan at Sandhof farm was in bloom, so we got a chance to see this world-famous sight the next morning. Staff were friendly and helpful, the small pool was very welcome after a long dusty day on the road, and the beer was very cold!

It rained recently and through no fault of the owners, there were a lot of mosquitos.

This is a well known hotel, visited often in the past. sometimes just for a beer. We were given space to park inside and assistance to keep our fridge in the car running. The pool was refreshing. The food really good.
