Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThere is no major discomfort, All Good. It depends on the person how they want to spend their leisure time.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hickory on Penang Hill, and it was a truly memorable experience. The location is incredibly tranquil – a perfect retreat for peace-loving individuals looking to escape the noise of the city. Surrounded by nature, the weather was pleasant and refreshing throughout our stay. One of the highlights of my trip was the 15-minute walk down through the forest from the top of Penang Hill to the resort – a thrilling and scenic trail that makes you feel completely immersed in nature. The sign boards were kept at the right place for guests to reach the resort. A special mention goes to Raaj, the owner, who was exceptionally kind, polite, and welcoming. The staff were also wonderful – they went out of their way to assist us, even helping prepare food upon request, which made our stay feel homely and relaxed. One minor challenge is that the train service to the station near the resort runs only once every hour, so planning your travel times is important. That said, the peace and setting more than make up for it. Don’t miss “The Habitat”, an incredible attraction on Penang Hill. It's a must-visit for nature lovers, offering a breathtaking walk through untouched rainforest. As a bonus, guests staying at Hickory can enjoy a 20% discount, which Raaj can help arrange. If you're looking for a peaceful, nature-filled escape with warm hospitality, Hickory is the place to be. Highly recommended!

The property is renovated beautifully, keeping the old time charm. The view of the east side of Penang was amazing especially at night. We were lucky to be there while Kek Lok Si temple was lit up for CNY. Raj, the owner, was so welcoming and it was genuine. He should be proud of what he has achieved with restoring the place and the additions to improve the comforts for guests. All the staff we very pleasant and helpful. We were lucky enough to see a big black squirrel from our balcony as well as a family of dusky leaf monkeys on our walk nearby.

MalaysiaWiFi and Internet signal was strong in the lounge area but faded a little in bedrooms.
We chose Hickory to rediscover the joys of Penang Hill which we revisited on several occasions decades ago and to introduce our grown-up children to places where our memories lay. We were not disappointed. Road paths and hill slopes connecting Hickory with Penang Hill summit via a steady 15-minute climb have been very well maintained, surfaced, lit, signposted and navigation made convenient by roadside maps. Hickory is a converted wooden bungalow with ample accommodation for groups and places for meetings or retreats. Bedding is comfortable, bathrooms are modern. Natural ventilation and relatively cooler weather are a welcome respite from George Town temperatures. The garden is full of beautiful flowering bougainvilleas, garlic vine, stefanotis, asters, shaded by bamboo, banana trees and ferns. The garden looks out over George Town and both bridges to the Peninsula. The night sky offers a clear view of the galaxy. Western-style breakfast and Chinese dinner were were deliciously prepared by wonderful house staff. Mr Raj the owner and manager was ever courteous and knowledgeable about the Hill. Hickory has a trove of books to read about Penang's history and some books are available to buy. A delightful stay away from it all.

MalaysiaOnly thing is it was inconvenient to get up to the hotel. as the only way to get up there was to take the funicular. And the service of the funicular ends at 11pm. So for those who are here for holidays an wish to enjoy the night life in Penang its not recommended. Because you cant go out after 11 pm onwards.
The breakfast options were amazing. We chose their western breakfast. It was so good. The place was so relaxing and it felt like home. The staffs were very helpful and friendly. Their library has lots of book options as well. we definitely enjoyed this stay and we would really recommend.

AustraliaI didn’t like how the mozzies could come in through the lattice in the walls. The grass could turn into mud in some spots due to rain and could be a bit slippery.
I loved the view from the dining area overlooking Penang it was very green and grassy I also loved how they had free tea coffee and other beverages nice temperature and not too many mozzies. The rooms were nice with a lot of space and natural light. The rooms were also very clean.
