Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyOne of the best accommodations I have stayed in. The rooms are minimal but still very cosy. Everything is very clean, especially the bathrooms which are well organised and stocked. The rooms are small but well organised. The one my boyfriend and I stayed in had no window, but we really appreciated the dehumidifier which did its job. Communication with the staff was always very pleasant and efficient. The kitchen is a very pleasant environment! There is coffee, tea and a machine that dispenses drinking water. The location of the hotel is excellent! The most iconic and lively parts of the city are just a few minutes' walk away. Highly recommended!

AustraliaThe Cosy Place is a kind of backpacker ‘with class! constructed out of 2 adjacent shop houses. It’s close to everything in George Town. All the facilities seem quite new. I had a really comfortable queen bed in a private room (I think every guest/couple had private rooms). I started with an upstairs room with a window but don’t like stairs so chose to be downstairs in the only room still available. It had no window but was very cozy with AC and air purifier as well as reading light, small desk and chair. The ‘shared’ bathroom refers to a row of 5 new showers with their own hot water system with shampoo etc supplied. There’s also a row of toilets. I was there for 3-nights when the place was fully booked. At no time was there a lack of privacy in the bathroom area or competition for showers or lavatory. There’s a kitchenette at the back with seating for about a dozen with filtered water, microwave and large fridge for guests. Coffee and tea are supplied as is cutlery and crockery. I’d certainly stay here again.

MexicoEverything was great.
Just like the name: super cozy. Clean facilities and good communication with the staff, since we arrived very late at night. The room was small but very comfortable. The tote bag gift was a nice touch!

MalaysiaIt would be a 10/10 experience if there is more power socket in the room. Maybe adding an extension could solve the issue.
Ease of check in, the cleanliness of the room and the facilities provided in the stay

ItalyIt would have been a 10 if the bathrooms had been cleaned more often. There was a carpet of hair on the ground after three days and the baskets were full of rubbish, which was decidedly unhygienic
The room has minimal style but it is very functional 🔸 Towels are provided 🔸 Hairdryer in the toilet were a plus 🔸Very nice style of kitchen and common area 🔸You can borrow umbrellas in case of rain and if you forget your toothbrush no panic, the hotel provide it + earplugs

Genuinely cozy place. A lot of effort has been put into designing this place to make it good to stay in. One of the best hostels in George Town

NetherlandsRoom smelled a bit chemical and was quite small, little room for the bags. However the price was good so you get what you pay for in that regard.
We arrived a little early and the staff let us check in a bit earlier which was really nice. Showers are great, just around the corner from the room. Drinking water included nice and cold Easy check in

MalaysiaI forgot my room lock number in the middle of the night, and my cell phone was locked inside the room. There was no staff there, and no phone. It was very inconvenient. The windowless room had a strong smell of paint. The big pink face at the entrance was impressive.🩷😇👔
There was plenty of coffee and amenities. In one room, there was a lot of brown mold on the wall in the far corner, stretching from neck height to knee height and feet, and it had a sweet, rotten smell, but they quickly moved me to the next room. 🤎🟥☕️

United StatesThe room was very small (even for one person) and completely windowless, which made it feel a bit claustrophobic. It's not a comfortable space to spend time in, but it is good for sleeping since there's no sunlight to wake you up. Unfortunately, my room had a lot of mosquitoes. Neither the plug-in repellent nor the spray seemed to work, or maybe new ones came in through the drain. The bathroom tiles were uncomfortable to walk on, and the pillows were too soft for my liking. The full-body mirror was cheap and made me feel dizzy. There was only one tiny shelf that served as a table, so storage space was very limited. Some items in the room, like the laundry hamper and incense sticks, felt unnecessary and just took up space. It would be better to prioritize more functional furnishings over decorative ones.
Communication with the owner was excellent. They were very responsive and proactive in resolving any issues. Nice extras included a USB cable and adapter to borrow, plus free snacks, coffee, tea, earplugs, and biscuits. And free tote bag! Great value for the location in Georgetown, just a short walk to lots of street art and Lebuh Armenian. There are plenty of coffee shops and local eateries nearby. Don’t miss the youtiao and soy milk from the place next door! I also appreciated the extra work to make the room more soundproof, like the foam padding under the door. It's clear the owner put in a lot of effort to make the space as comfortable as possible. Some of the limitations I mentioned come from the building itself, not from a lack of care.

United StatesA Cozy Place wasn't what I was expecting, but that was mostly my fault. It felt more like a hostel than a hotel. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, it is not what I wanted. Again, my mistake, since I obviously didn't explore the listing, as I should have. The one feature that was missing, which I would have expected anyway, was a window. For those seeking a simple, inexpensive room, in a good location from which to discover Penang, this might be the place. It just wasn't a good fit for me.

United Kingdomthere is only one toilet area which is on the ground floor, and the steps are very steep and narrow. makes it a little difficult to walk back to your room after a shower. also our room was on quite a noticeable slant which made sleeping a little uncomfortable
room was definitely cosy, and the free cold drinking water was so helpful. the bedding was comfy and the air con worked very well. bed was very big. good location aswell and felt secure with pin codes for all the rooms.

AustraliaEasily the best value hotel I’ve stayed at in Malaysia. Ideal for solo travellers…clean, safe, and welcoming. Service was outstanding with prompt replies, early check-in arranged, and arranged a spare room with desk for a job interview. WiFi was flawless for the video call, despite some other average claims, I had zero issues. The shared bathrooms were spotless, regularly cleaned and never a wait. My room was comfortable, well maintained, and peaceful. Location is perfect too, 1 min to Kimberley St and 5 min to the historic old town. After 4 nights, I genuinely can’t fault it. No noise, no hassle, just a great stay. Would 100% stay again it’s a fantastic option for solo travellers.

ItalyGreat stay! The place is modern and well-maintained, beds are clean and comfortable. There’s a cozy common area where you can make tea or coffee, and everything is kept spotless - you can see the staff take great care of the space. The location is also excellent, within walking distance of the main attractions. The staff is super kind too and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend!!

DenmarkThe standard of cleanliness could have been better, because I found a banana peel beside my bed (eww!), so obviously the room wasn't cleaned properly before check-in. It's an old building, which is part of the charm, but that means squeaky floors and paper thin walls, so you hear everything next door, even when people are talking in a low voice. However, the hostel does provide ear plugs and have a quiet hours policy from 10 pm - 7 am.
Good location, many restaurants around and a night market just around the corner, walking distance to all the sights in the old city, nice common area, good toilet and shower facilities, comfy bed, well functioning air-con (which, however is loud), and nice little touches, such as water dispenser, complimentary toiletry articles and umbrellas you can borrow. 🙂 Easy, simple self check-in and helpful communicative host. 👍

United KingdomDid not realise that there was no window to my room as from pictures seemed like it did. My room smelt a little musty, but suspect that’s more likely from the air-con and lack of window as my room was spotless. There was a random person sleeping on the sofa who woke me up snoring so loudly - but as no reception this cannot be the fault of cozy place just very strange.
Really great location, check in was easy very detailed email sent, towels provided and the shared shower/bathroom area very clean. The kitchen and communal areas are very well decorated. All in all a great room to get away from sharing dorms while travelling!
