Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe wifi in Penang is famously terrible for intensive work (it's a sign to be on Holiday!). This is a feature of the entire island. Locationwise, the hotel is sandwiched between two mosques, so at evening prayer it is possible to hear the chants but the awesome double glazing keeps the decibels to a very acceptable level.
This is our new favourite hotel. Note - It is a personal opinion so 88 Armenian may not be for everyone. These are some of the reasons why we have rated the hotel a 10/10. 1. The bed is astonishingly comfy. 2. The Bathroom is perfect (in our opinion) as it overlooks the street but is protected by the trees (do not cut down the trees on any account!) and has double layer blinds for full blackout for a restful sleep 3. The breakfast changes everyday. 4. There are only 6 rooms so staff have the opportunity to provide a personal service to guests. This was true even though the hotel was fully booked during our trip. 5. The bath butler service is totally unecessary but absolutely superb, which is our definition of luxury. 6. the staff are wonderful, in a way that is impossible to replicate in a large hotel. all of them are experienced professionals and one feels in safe hands in their care. 7. Historically authentic - Nestled in the heart of old Penang on Armenian Street, it is a location steeped in history, intrigue, battles, drama - just ask the staff for recommendations. 8. Love the vision of the entire hotel as a hidden gem. Received an unexpected upgrade and the room was equipped with the most exquite tech (stream music from your free iPad, connect your devices to the two television sets separately, free Netflix, free Prime Video) with clean design. 9. The Treats! The entire mini bar contents are free. Apart from Coca Cola, which is evil but too popular to eliminate altogether, the treats and drinks are local - local sweets / crisps - tell the staff whether you want Sweet/Savoury/Unexpected. At turndown, you get more treats, and a little card to tell you the weather forecast for the day ahead. 10. The vibe - it is the most relaxed, friendly and high quality hotel we have encountered in a long time.

United StatesHighly recommend this perfect little gem in the heart of Georgetown. Location was amazing, extremely convenient to walk to all the sightseeing spots in the city. Hospitality here was unmatched. All the staff were so sweet, and they all went above and beyond in recommending us the best restaurants and attractions to visit. Included breakfast was absolutely delicious with a rotating menu (Western / Nyonya / Dim Sum). And finally the room itself - so clean and modern and so much care put into the amenities. The bath butler service was a dream! This hotel was the highlight of our stay in Malaysia and we would definitely stay again.

SingaporeFrom the moment we arrived at 88 Armenian Hotel, we knew we were in for a truly special experience. This boutique gem in the heart of Penang exceeded our expectations in every way—especially in how thoughtfully it catered to our needs as vegan travelers. Each morning began with beautifully presented, delicious vegan breakfasts that were not only nourishing but also a highlight of our stay. The kitchen staff went above and beyond to create variety and flavor, showcasing an impressive understanding of plant-based cuisine. The rooms themselves were impeccably designed, blending heritage charm with modern luxury. High-quality furnishings, plush bedding, and refined finishes made every moment in our room feel indulgent and serene. It’s clear that great care was taken to ensure comfort and style in every detail. What truly sets 88 Armenian apart is the extraordinary service. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely accommodating. Every request was met with a smile, and their attention to detail—from remembering our breakfast preferences to providing personalized recommendations—made us feel incredibly well cared for throughout our stay. The location couldn’t be better. Nestled in the cultural heart of George Town, we were steps away from vibrant street art, charming cafes, and historical landmarks—yet the hotel felt like a peaceful retreat from the bustle outside. A standout feature was the nightly butler bath service. Returning to our room each evening to find a beautifully drawn bath—complete with scents and soothing ambiance—was a touch of luxury that made our stay unforgettable. We’d certainly return to 88 Armenian Street and would highly recommend it to anyone searching for a luxury stay in Penang. It’s a rare find where heritage, hospitality, and heart come together in perfect harmony.

Saudi ArabiaMinor Drawbacks Bidet Absence: Note - no handheld toilet sprayer Noise Levels: Some hallway noise was noticeable during peak guest movement times - added soundproofing would improve the experience. The noise was not an issue for my party. Parking: Like most heritage properties in Georgetown, parking is scarse and can be frustrating. Although staff were extremely helpful and solved it for the period of our stay.
Prime Yet Peaceful Location: Nestled among hip coffee shops and trendy restaurants, the hotel enjoys a quiet setting just off the main tourist paths. While parking can be challenging, the staff go above and beyond to assist guests. Thoughtful Touches: Enjoyed daily complimentary snacks, a luxurious bath butler service with specialty tea, and an unexpected free upgrade to a spacious loft-style room. Exceptional Breakfasts: Rotating set menus featuring Chinese, Nyonya and other local food varieties were a delicious highlight of each morning. Outstanding Service: Staff provided excellent recommendations, helped with parking logistics, and even suggested personalized city tours and touristy experiences. Futhermore, the staff proactively offered access to a sister property's swimming facilities - we regrettably didn't have time to take advantage, but appreciated the thoughtful gesture during the hottest month in Malaysia. Stylish Design: Beautiful boutique interiors with Aesop toiletries and well-maintained facilities.

AustraliaThere was no onsite car parking but the staff sorted that out by finding us parking nearby and assisted in paying for the parking via the parking app to save us from having to download and navigate it ourselves. We then paid back the parking in our total room bill. Such great service!
What a wonderful hotel at 88 Armenian. There were special touches that make this place unique, like the complimentary bath service, that also came with refreshing iced tea. The complimentary tea in the rooms were of the finest selection and brand. The service was amazing and very personalised. Ranging from dining recommendations both in Georgetown and at our next destination, as well as attentive service from Aitee, KC and the other staff. The hotel was well located on Armenian St, right near where everything was happening. 88 Armenian is of high quality and very bespoke. We would love to come back here again and spend more time the next time around. Thankyou Aitee, KC and everyone - sorry forgot the other names!!

SingaporeThe only one little thing is because it's a heritage site, cars might not be able to drop you off directly in front of the hotel, so you have to walk a little, which can be a bit hard if it's raining. But that wasn't too big of an issue
We stayed in a suite which was generously sized, there was enough space for both a baby travel cot and a sofa bed, so it really was perfect for my family of 4! Daily breakfast was delicious. The location was amazing, smack in the middle of the action at Armenian. Great shopping, food, sights in the midst of the beauty of this heritage site. The service at the hotel was also fantastic. KC was especially wonderful and made us all feel very welcomed. Thanks KC!

SingaporeThere was no hot water on our first morning even though we let the water run for very long. The door's electronic lock failed the 2nd night. However, service recovery was fast and everything explained very clearly. It's an old building so I would expect some creakiness, so service recovery was key and 88 Armenian performed very well.
The prepared bath that welcomed us at the end of the day was such a luxury. Comes with a set of iced tea for some after bath relaxing. Property is very small so it's very cosy. Breakfast was delicious, loved that we had different menus served on different days. Especially loved the shakshuka - yummy! Bits of the old building has been retained within the rooms - our room had a pretty pillar at the corner.
