Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe restaurant was lovely and reasonably priced. They do cater to vegetarians, which I appreciated, though the vegetarian dinner option we had wasn’t the best. Also, the bed was quite hard, which made sleeping a bit uncomfortable.
This smaller hotel was absolutely beautiful—so much better than the large five-star resorts in Cancun. It had a peaceful, calming vibe that made it perfect for reading, writing, or just relaxing. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the service felt personal and genuine. There was plenty of shade when needed, but the sun and natural light were just stunning. I especially loved the morning sunrise service—it really set the tone for the day. I met a woman who had stayed there four times, and I completely see why. I wish I had extended my stay—it was such a special place, and I’d definitely go back.

United StatesThe staff was not the friendliest. We’re not used to big tipping in Europe (but still did) and felt they were not too keen to provide amazing service in the restaurants. Prices of the lunch was quite high.
Really lovely spot. We came after a couple days at a luxury all-inclusive resort and were so relived to come here. Quiet, no crowds, lovely bungalows! Stayed with young kids and elderly parents and everyone had an amazing time. Plenty of chairs at the beach, very comfy chairs. Wonderful massages and very reasonably prized. Would absolutely recommend if you are looking for a quiet getaway and don’t need all the entertainment at the big resorts. Our kids (6 and 8) preferred this over slides and kids-clubs. Many European families (like us) so it was nice to be with likeminded people who were looking for the same (relaxing) experience.

United KingdomDinner service only started at 7pm, which with small children can be tricky to accomodate. And bar service for food stops at 5pm so there's a gap where it's hard to get food in the hotel. But staff were accommodating in terms of getting food in take away boxes from breakfast/dinner.
Small hotel, very quiet and cosy. Surrounding space is beautiful, lots of animals around (but not in a scary way) and food in restaurant was very good. Everyone was kind, respectable and friendly with us and our son.

BelgiumWe absolutely loved the place, so these are just a few minor points for improvement: - service was a bit slow - coffee at breakfast wasnt quite up the the standard of the place
Lovely little hotel, great place to chill out, great staff, decent prices at the bar. You absolutely need a car/taxi. Avenida 5 is about 25 minutes by car (that is not a bad thing, you just need to be aware).

ItalyNot being able to access the ocean in front of the property was not ideal with young children (you need to walk a few hundred meters), although the abundant seaweed made the sea less attractive than the pool anyway. WiFi in the room had poor signal.
The setting, furniture, and vegetation make the resort very charming. The food for breakfast and dinner exceeded our expectations for quality and variety. The staff was friendly and attentive.

United StatesRight on the beach. Amazing sand. Small facility with 30 rooms in 5 buildings. Plus, it's has around 20 bungalows. Great breakfast buffet and dishes from the menu are included. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel, though many did. You will want to have a car due to the distance from Playa del Carmen. Right in front of the hotel is not great for swimming due to coral and spiny urchins. Very short walk to where one can get in the beautiful water.

EstoniaNothing, we liked everything! :)
Small charming hotel, with very nice green garden where you may see local animals hanging around. Every morning we watched sunrise in the beach, during this time they offer coffee for the early birds! After that we went to yoga class. The bed and pillows were good, room was quiet, rooms are very basic, and nothing special. Hotel personnel is very kind and helpful. We arrived at 10AM and got the room right away. Day before I asked for early check in with an extra charge, but they refused. During check in at 10AM they did not ask any money for early check in. Food: Very good breakfast and dinner. In the morning, some food is served as buffee, most of the main dishes have to be ordered, some dishes were with extra charge, however there is no need to pay extra as there are many options that you can order for free. Dinner - soup and salat is served as buffee, main course and dessert has to be ordered separately. Every day the menu changes, there were two options of main dish and dessert. Food and the drinks in the beach bar is also very good. Food prices at the beach are very reasonable, cocktails start for 185MXN. Beach: small and charming beach area, the area is not big, however there were always free sun beds. For swimming, I suggest to use swimming shoes, as there are some rocks in the sea. If someone wants to snorkel, then there is nothing to see. Shops and walking around: The hotel is far away from Playa del Carmen centre - you have to take a taxi. There is nowhere to walk around in the neighbourhood, closest shop is 1.4km far away. We went to the shop few times, however we did not miss the "walking around" part at all. Would definitely stay again in this hotel! :)

FranceCommunication with beach waiters was tricky. I asked for a parasol and was told they had none left, that someone will come help me move a deck shade to the shadow. None came so I asked again, I was then told no one could help me... Then a lady who arrived after me was brought a parasol.... After someone left a spot in the shadows I moved and the waiter was upset. I had to explain I didn't steal anyone's spot... Then it was very tricky to be served anything.
Room was very good, clean and spacious Breakfast was amazing Hotel was peaceful, we even saw animals The staff was amazing (except for the beach waiters) The food and cocktail were great ! Highly recommend.

United StatesSuch a charming and beautiful place! We loved being right on the beach, doing yoga every morning (the instructor was fantastic at Spanish + English instruction), and the staff were so kind and helpful. The food was also really good - it was thoughtful and made with high quality ingredients. For breakfast they had a great buffet with made to order options as well, lunch and drinks were for sale at the cute bar and patio overlooking the water, and dinner was either a buffet or made to order with a few nice options. Overall this place is fantastic and I can find no faults. We hope to be back!

United StatesMy husband is a runner and says the area around the hotel is not so great for runs. Our room had 2 double beds (full size) and we're quite tall, so next time we'll make sure to book the king size bed.
We had a wonderful stay at Petit Lafitte - the food and staff were terrific. We didn't have the all-inclusive dinner option but ended up having dinner at the hotel most nights because the food was so good. We loved the secluded pool and private beach (the swimming area is a few hundred feet to the right - and the beach was objectively better than the beaches in front of the 5-star luxury resorts in the area) Our room and beds were very comfortable; the wifi worked well for my husband, who had to take work calls. We had an issue with our room AC, which was fixed immediately. Petit Lafitte is such a relaxing hotel; it didn't feel crowded, and it's family-friendly (not a party crowd) I enjoyed the daily yoga and the lazy afternoons spent on the beach. We will definitely be back.

NetherlandsHotel rooms are clearly dated and could use a renovation / upgrade, although they are clean and big enough. Also would suggest they start dinner at 6 instead of 7, as the latter is too late for small children.
Very relaxed, perfectly situated hotel with an amazing beach bar, great pool and very family / child friendly. Food and cocktails were consistently good and staff was very friendly. Very good value for what you get vs eg the regional all-in resorts. Loved the small scale feel.

NetherlandsHowever, it does make visiting Playa del Carmen’s city center less convenient, as getting there requires a taxi. The hotel charges high tariffs for transportation, so we recommend renting a car to save costs and gain flexibility. There were a couple of minor drawbacks. Tipping on top of included meals felt a bit confusing, especially for European travelers unfamiliar with the practice. Additionally, the shower water in our bungalow had an unusual smell, likely related to regional sargassum issues that can affect the area.
Our stay at Petit Lafitte in a beachfront bungalow was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. The view from our bungalow was absolutely stunning—waking up to the sound of the waves and the breathtaking sight of the ocean was a highlight of our trip. The beach was perfect for long, peaceful walks, and the tranquil atmosphere made it an ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle. The food was consistently delicious, with fresh and flavorful options that never disappointed. The staff were exceptional—friendly, attentive, and always eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The facilities were well-maintained and met the expectations of a quality 4-star hotel.
