How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt's a lovely retreat in a unique setting, close to Santa Elana and the ruins of Uxmal, Kabah, Sayil, Labna and others. Great staff, great breakfasts included and very comfortable accommodations.
There was nothing to dislike.
Dear Mr. Scott, Thank you sincerely for your comments, it is a pleasure to know that you enjoyed your stay at Nueva Altia while visiting the Ruta Puuc and do hope to welcome you again on another visit. Best regards, Ana

Verified reviewPleasantly set in the countryside. Easy driving to Uxmal ruins. Good sized room.
The "Eco" bit is overplayed. They have solar panels but a generator was running all the time we were there. They say the water heating is solar - didn't do a lot of heating as we never got any hot water. There are no trails, or even documentation, to explore local flora and fauna. The dinner menu is very limited, and the restaurant is too small for the volume of visitors, though the food was well made. Very little English amongst the staff.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was very good. The property is large with many areas to explore and enjoy. We enjoyed the secluded location, birds, nature.
Setting, staff, privacy, outdoor patio, breakfast. The environmentally positive practices were much appreciated.

Verified reviewBeautiful setting, nice room and bathroom. Hammock on the deck was really nice. Very nice surroundings. Great breakfast. Overall quiet. Very close to Mayan ruins.
It was quite noisy - possibly outside of the control, sounded like shooting (both nights) and a loud radio.

Verified reviewIt is only 5 minutes from Kabah arqueological zone and some other ruins from the Puuc route.
The breakfast included in the tariff is not good, the sweet bread was not fresh, the coffee was very diluted and the served fruit was hard to chew and lack of flavor, any additional food as eggs cost you 7 dollars. The shower drainage did not work well, taking long time to drain. The hotel is overpriced taking advantage of the scarcity of accommodation near by.

Verified reviewThe location was perfect for us. Way off the road and quiet. The room was clean and comfortable.
Continental breakfast was included but you had to pay extra for eggs. The property should include a full breakfast in the price. Although they were upfront about it, all of the other places we stayed at included a full breakfast.

Verified reviewThe grounds are very pretty, and the buildings are attractive. It was nice to have an outdoor seating area and hammock. A continental breakfast is included in the price. Options like omelette are available for extra. The extras and drinks are available between 6.30 & 7.30 in the evening if preordered. The owner was friendly and speaks some English.
The room decor was rather dull. As there is nowhere to buy snacks or drinks nearby it would be nice if there was a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities available during the day in the breakfast area.

Verified reviewMy family and I enjoyed our stay a lot. Waking up with the sounds of birds, jumping in the swimming pool and do yoga before a well done breakfast. And the service was top level.
If I need to say something, I can call for a bigger swimming pool. It was enough for us but certainly not big enough for two families at the same time. But having in mind it´s an eco-hotel; it is just a luxury to have a clean swimming pool.

Swimmingpool wasn't really clean

Verified reviewIt has a good breakfast, a big room, and a terrace with a hammock. The area is super cute, with many trees and flowers. It's super close to Uxmal. I like that the electricity is coming from solar panels.
For the price, I wish the hotel had been better maintained, especially the bathroom. I did not notice in the pictures that the swimming pool was that small. We were a group of 6 so it was a bit too small for us.

Verified reviewEverything! Located one mile from Santa Elena this hotel is a perfect and relaxing stay for a much needed trip to Uxmal Ruins. It really is eco friendly and solar powered. The grounds are stunning and what a luxury to wake up to such beauty. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with windows all the way around for a cross breeze. The staff are wonderful and accommodated my special dietary needs. I would highly recommend this experience if you’re planning a trip to Uxmal.
