Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesExcellent location that was walking distance to a popular area but far enough away that it wasn't loud. Loved the kitchen to reheat leftovers and morning coffee. Two minute walk to the beach and excellent customer service. They even hand delivered a surprise birthday cake and a special note from my sister. All of the staff was wonderful and welcoming.

United StatesI’ve stayed many places in Puerto. This was one of my favorites. It was new, internet great, hot showers, the staff was AMAZING. Super cute, quiet, 10 min walk to La Punta or Zicatela. 5 min walk to the beach. It’s quiet and calm. Really no complaints other than the Oaxacan sun. But the bedroom A/C upstairs fixed that. I wanted to surprise my gf with a bday cake and a quick message to the staff, they had it ready for me in our room! They even provided a bottle of wine, beach towels and umbrellas for us to use. Can’t recommend enough

United StatesI'm a greedy American so would have loved a room with AC in both the living space and bedroom. However, it only being in the bedroom was sufficient, and it's my understanding that this it the norm in Puerto Escondido.
Casa Mava is a very zen hotel. The rustic modern design aesthetic is well done, and the stand out for me is the massive shower in my room with a skylight.

United StatesNot the hotel's fault, but we stayed in a room below the pool/rooftop. We stayed in that room on our first visit as well without issue. On this visit, we could hear other guests moving furniture upstairs and talking loudly. Just inconsiderate guests, not an issue with the hotel.
This was our second stay at Casa Mava. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating. It's always very clean. The shower and the toiletries are amazing. The pool is a nice spot to relax. No tele's in the rooms so it's quiet and very tranquil, as long as the other guests follow suit :) The bed was very comfortable.

United StatesWe stayed at Casa Mava for our babymoon and had an amazing experience! From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed—the hospitality was incredible. The hotel is beautifully designed with so much thought put into every detail, and unlike some places that look great in photos but aren’t functional, Casa Mava strikes the perfect balance of style and comfort. Our villa was spacious and well-appointed, with a super comfortable bed and a private pool that we absolutely loved. The rooftop pool was another highlight—a perfect spot to relax and unwind. We also really appreciated the gym, which was well-equipped and a great addition to our stay. One of the things we loved most was having a kitchen to make breakfast and lunch, while still being able to walk to La Punta for amazing food. The neighborhood is quiet and full of charm, with great local spots just minutes away. We especially loved Nasiva, just a two-minute walk from the hotel, which has the best fish tacos in the world! There are also plenty of little shops nearby for groceries, and we really enjoyed visiting Zicatela Mercado for fresh ingredients and other essentials. It was great to be able to support smaller, family-owned businesses in the area—it really added to the experience. Beyond the hotel itself, the location was fantastic, making it easy to explore while always looking forward to coming “home” to our little oasis. We spent four wonderful nights here and couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate this special time. Highly recommend Casa Mava to anyone looking for a relaxing and luxurious getaway!

United StatesExceeded expectations, so clean, reasonably priced, and truly amazing. Just far enough from the craziness, but still so close to the beach. Would absolutely stay again. Luis managed the property and was SO helpful-- he gave us tips, made sure our stay was comfortable, stored our luggage, etc. He truly made the experience wonderful!

ColombiaI enjoyed my stay very much. To future guests, please be aware that the rooms have no sound isolation so sometimes you may hear guests passing by if they are too loud. Same with neighboring guests, particularly in the private pool area. Overall, noise was not a concern to me, but for some people it may be. One feedback item is that for my personal preference the mattress and pillows were too soft. Nonetheless, I rested beautifully but needed to pile up the pillows so I wouldn't end up with a sore neck.
Excellent stay at Casa Mava. Fernando and Luis are extremely attentive and eager to accommodate one's requests. The hotel is extremely well located, in a quiet area with good restaurants nearby (to make up for the fact that the hotel does not provide any food services). Very close to the beach (a 3 minute walk) and also a 10-15 minute walk away from Punta Zicatela where more restaurants, bars and shops are located. Fernando welcomes you with detailed orientations regarding how to move in Puerto Escondido, what to do and his recommended spots. The hotel pool is delightful and comfortable with a small living area to rest and enjoy a sunny afternoon. My room was in excellent condition, it included a private swimming pool which I enjoyed very much. Decorations were very tasteful and allowed for a very pleasant rest. The shower is amazing, very illuminated and great water pressure, feels like showering outdoors. I also enjoyed very much the complimentary toiletries from Vervan, excellent choice. If you wish to cook, the room has a fully-equipped kitchen. The room has its own private wi-fi which is ultra convenient if you have to devote a couple of hours to working remotely as I had to. Definitely will come back and highly recommend!

United KingdomAlthough Casa Mava is a short walk away from the hubs of La Punta and Zicatela, the immediate surrounding area is still in a state of development which means at night time you’ll find yourself walking along dirt roads with very little light. Solo travellers should consider this.
There has been so much thought and attention to detail put into Casa Mava. They have really thought of everything - from a shower downstairs so you can wash the sand off you before you go to your room to providing parasols. We stayed at a few places in Mexico and this was our favourite. Our room was beautiful and we loved all the fantastic smelling products provided, you can tell they are high quality. We felt like we could go to Fernando for anything, he was so welcoming and helpful. We also really liked the pool area and spent a lot of time there - only thing missing is a bar!

Casa Mava Mava is THE best place to stay in Puerto Escondido. The place is fabulous and absolutely perfect. It has wonderful and meaningful Mexican decoration with an amazing and elegant style. Casa Mava is 5 min away to La Punta, 10 min away from Zicatela and a block away from the beach which makes it even a better place to stay. They offer beach towels, umbrellas and all you need to make your stay a wonderful experience. The pool area is fantastic and relaxing. Fernando, the manager is an amazing host, extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He has great recommendations to do around. I highly recommend this place because it is simply perfect and it has all you need. Casa Mava, feels like home. Thank you for everything, staying here was the best experience ever!! MexicoNothing - everything was pretty good.
The property is brand new with awesome rooms. There’s a parking lot, a good WiFi and pool. Fernando is a kind person, who shared with us some tips of what to do in the city, best restaurants and tours. It’s well located (just one block from the beach), a quiet street and just 7 minutes from Puerto Escondido center (by car). There’s no breakfast included, but there’s a Cafe just a 5-minute-walk from the hotel that was surprisingly tasty.
