How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAthos Guesthouse is located in a central position in Kotor’s Old Town. The rooms are on the first and second floors of the building, while on the ground floor there is a bar/restaurant open both to guests and to the general public. The staff are kind and helpful, even though they also have to run the bar at the same time. There is a nightclub next door, but they make sure to point this out at the time of booking.
Breakfast starts at 9:00 a.m., when the bar opens, and the waiting time depends on how many customers there are besides the guests. Pancakes, crêpes, coffee, cappuccino, eggs, etc. Anyone who wants to spend a full day at the beach or go on an excursion risks leaving late in the morning. The bathroom needs to be cleaned and managed better. Towels had a strong smell of smoke.

Verified reviewGreat old town location, room was cute! Not as noisy from the surrounding bars as other reviews said (windows when closed blocked a lot of the noise). Owners were lovely. And I think the property should be higher rated..
Hot water for shower didn't work, only negative.. they were getting it fixed. Also, DON'T DRINK THE WATER HERE! Made me sick. Also narrow steps - fine for us..

Verified reviewI did not like anything about this accommodation
SHORT VERSION OF THE STORY The hotel stole 18 euro from us, aircon doesn't work while it is 32 degrees during the day, and the heat stays in the room overnight. The bathroom smells terrible, is humid (warm), smells like mold, and you can't attach the shower head anywhere so you need to hold it to shower FULL VERSION OF THE STORY: We arrived late, exhausted from a day of traveling and got offered 'another room because all rooms are taken'. Of course we have no choice because it's late and we're exhausted. The room was small, and the aircon only blows warm air. This while it was 32 degrees during the day, and the heat stuck in the room overnight. I had 2 terrible nights of sleep because of this heat. Next, the bathroom smells like mold, and was super hot and humid. On top of that the shower head didn't attach to anything, so I had to hold it above my head like I'm showering in the 1930's. Finally, I aggreed to this accommodation for $380 AUD, this is written on booking.com as well. However THEIR BUSINESS charged $409 from my bank account. This is $29 (18euro) more than I aggreed on. When I asked staff about it, they said 'the numbers on booking.com are b*llshit, our system is correct' So they effectively stole 18 euro and didn't want to own up to it. When I asked for a refund for this horrible experience, they said I am a 'very opportunistic person'.

Verified reviewLocation is nice
We reserved 3 rooms and we have only 2 for a group of 9. Didn’t understand why they wanted to charge extra for the 3rd when I had already paid for 3

Verified reviewDo not go to Athos Guesthouse unless you want to party. The guesthouse is next to extreme loud music (on the friday that I stayed till 3a.m.) So if you want to party, Athos is excellent. If you want to sleep, book outside of Kotor. Advice to the manager : if somebody comes to sleep (I asked specifically if the nights were quiet) then help the guest to find a quiet sleeping environment.

Verified reviewAlthough the location was not the same as shown on the map, it was even better because it was in a quiet area. The room was small but comfortable, even with a small kitchen. There was AC as well.

Verified reviewthe hosts, the young couple who run the guesthouse are very kind, welcoming and helpful. they carried my luggage up the steep steps, and the lady made me a lovely cup of coffee. A very pretty old building with a lot of charm, in the old town. beautiful views from the window. Kotor is a very beautiful town, and I fell in love with all the darling cats there!
Sleep deprivation. the place is right next door to a disco-nightclub of sorts, which plays loud music until about 1 am. This is not the fault of the hosts, rather the fault of the club, Letrika, who have no regard for the comfort of other people staying in the nearby hotels.

Verified reviewAmazing location, in the old town with everything on your doorstep. Room very nice too, small but sufficient. Staff met us there and let us leave luggage earlier on. There was a noisy bar next door but stopped by midnight. would recommend staying here for the location :)

Verified reviewOverall, I found this property to be a good and comfortable place to stay. The staff were super helpful and a real highlight of the experience. Just a heads-up that the stairs are quite narrow, and there can be some noise from nearby bars until around midnight.
It would also be beneficial to address some maintenance items in the bathroom.

Verified reviewI was quite worried after reading the negative comments. But everything was fine, check in within 5 minutes after calling. The room equipment is older, but everything was clean. There was a working kettle in the room. So I would stay here again... The neighborhood of the accommodation, the old town is absolutely amazing
The only problem that the accommodation informs about is the noise from the bar next to the accommodation, it is really loud until 1 am. I don't care about small things like a broken TV...

Verified reviewThe location was good, but extremely narrow and dangerous stairs case to climb on 3rd floor, I was lucky I didn’t fall.
No information what so ever, I asked the guy to let me drop my bag a bit earlier he didn’t respond at all, he didn’t allow me to check in before 3pm, no wifi information was provided, I asked him the WiFi password he responded 5 hours later and eventually when wifi was connected the speed was 120 kbps lol 😝, I usually almost never use wifi was this time I badly needed as I was on international roaming.
