How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

- Bathroom in very bad condition with mold and broken parts in the wall and shower - Low value for money - Wi-Fi didn’t work properly as mentioned in various other reviews - Bed was not comfortable - Stairs are very steep and have no handle (dangerous to lift up heavy luggage) - Appartment seems to have fake reviews on booking.com and google. We only found the google reviews after receiving the exact location as property is listed under different name in Google for obvious reasons, since reviews there are much worse from the Booking.com rating.
I offer eight apartments to my guests. Guests can choose whichever they like. I don't choose the room; you do. There's a price difference of 5-10 euros between them. There are 634 reviews on my page. (You said they were fake, how is that possible? There can't be a review without accommodations.) Only 10 with 1 rating... You need to look into your own problem. I can't stay in a room for an hour to give it 1 rating, but you stay for 3 days and give it 1 rating!!!

Verified reviewWe loved how central it was! Easy to get around old town! Spacious apartment and was cooled well with air conditioning. Can be noisy at night but nothing we couldnt handle.
A touch confusing to locate at first (we were also very hungry and tired after a 7 hour bus ride so that didnt help). To elevate this apartment it would be helpful to fix the front door light as it was broken and upgrade the TV. Just and FYI you will need to pay the tourist tax at the local post office on your first day

Verified reviewThis was a perfect location in Kotor Old Town, it was near everything that we needed. The decor is lovely inside and out. Staff were really helpful and quick to answer our questions on whatsapp, they came to us immediately to help us find the apartments, gave lots of recommendations and let us store our luggage after check out. Beds were comfortable, air conditioning was great in the heat, bathroom very clean and modern.
My friend in the attic apartment felt it was a bit difficult to use the bathroom due to the low ceilings, but this was on the information when we booked, so not a problem really.

The stairs are very narrow with no barrier and so it's really dangerous to climb. Make sure to take the room on first or second floor. We got a room at 4th floor which was very tiring to go up and down everytime we needed to go to the room
Our property is exactly as described in the listing, including the fact that the building has no elevator and that the stairs are narrow. These details are clearly visible in the photos and mentioned before booking. Choosing a higher-floor room was your own decision, and it’s unfair to blame the property for something that was transparently stated in advance. All the best (We offer 8 apartment options for travelers. However, the choice is up to the guests.) You stayed one night and paid 45 euros (even a hostel with shared bathrooms is more expensive) and you're ruining our motivation and leaving :( You have absolutely no right to do this. Regards

Extremely loud every night, loud techno music, making it impossible to sleep. Utensils were dirty when we arrived. Having to ask for toilet roll every day was a bit weird, it should be stocked up as we were there for 6 nights
Hello, I’ve been running my accommodation business for 8–9 years, and this is the first time I’ve encountered requests such as 10 rolls of toilet paper for a 6-night stay and daily towel and sheet changes. Although these are not services we are obliged to provide, I did my best to fulfill your requests in order to ensure your satisfaction. The dishes were also cleaned before handing over the apartment. Regarding the noise, there is no music venue very close to our property. I believe there were a few public concerts in the main square on 2 or 3 nights during your stay. Unfortunately, the condition in which the apartment was left after your departure was one of the messiest we have seen. Nonetheless, thank you for choosing to stay with us. Kind regards

Verified reviewComfortable, self contained room right in the centre of the Old Town. Although we never met the host, they were responsive via WhatsApp. The room was not serviced during our stay, which suits us very well. The wifi was very stable, once it had been fixed!
The etairs really need a handrail of some sort, getting the cases up & down was quitte scary! We were only given 1 toilet roll, and should not have had to ask for a replacement, as we were staying 6 days. It would also have been helpful; if the host had warned us that the wifi was down, but being fixed, rather than us having to ask about it.

Verified reviewThis apartment exceeded our expectations. Once inside, there is really nothing to complain about. Everything is high quality and well thought out. If we go to Kotor again, we will make an effort to book the same apartment again.
The directions were not accurate. Kotor is a very confusing place if you don't know it. We eventually had to call the owners, but they responded immediately and were very friendly, even though I was a bit irritated at that stage. The entrance to the building is not at the same standard as the inside of the apartment.

The bathroom in hour room had very low sailings and it was hard to wash and use the toilet especially for my husband who is tall.

Bed comfortable. Shower great. Entrance so pretty. I would love to visit again. Speed boat to Blue caves (swimmimg) was fun and sailboat.
Everything was wonderful. Be prepared. Taxi from Tivat airport €50.

Verified reviewCosy room, well furnished and clean. The location was perfect everything was reachable by foot in max 10 minutes (beach, bus station, bigger supermarket, ecc.) Although we never saw the host he was very present via messages and always gave clear instructions and helped us when we needed it. We really appreciated being able to extend check out by an hour or having the option to leave luggage in storage.
The bathroom is very small, but the shower is big enough. We had no intention of using the kitchen, it seemed quite well equipped in terms of utensils, but it would have been difficult to cook on just two small burners.
You wrote in your review that everything was perfect. However, you gave a low score for points I didn't understand. I couldn't compare it. I wish you all the best. 😔Best regards.
