Favorite hotel from my 3 week trip to morocco

People speaking in the courtyard could be heard very clearly from my room but I was so tired I mostly slept through it despite being a light sleeper. (Windows were open bc it was nice and cool outside but I could have closed them and turned on AC if I wanted.)

I just spent 3 weeks in Morocco and this was my favorite place I stayed on the entire trip. It’s beautiful! The beds were comfy compared to most others I slept on in Morocco. Couldn’t speak to breakfast bc the bed was so comfy I missed breakfast. It’s conveniently located a short walk away from the lively area of the Medina but far enough that it’s quiet. Yousef was a very helpful host.

Staff spoke almost no English. Used Google translate to get by. The staff arranged for all excursions and transfers. However there was a significant commission involved in all these transactions.

Beautifully maintained Riad, loved the hospitality and breakfast

Rare find Riad which is beautifully maintained inside Medina

The toilet in one of our rooms was on a step that got a bit difficult to use. But that will not stop me to book this Riad again if I visit Fes in future.

We loved everything about Riad Le Sucrier De Fes. The owner Souad is wonderful to chat with, she was communicating with us before we arrived effectively which made getting to Riad easy and finding parking nearby too. The location is perfect as its not in the maze of Medina and its on the outer rim of the Medina. Parking is few hundred meters away and the walking to Riad is flat. The rooms are beautifully done with good quality of toiletries. It was cold and damp when we reached, there are heaters in the room which made the stay comfortable. Souad went out of her way to make us warm water and Moroccan tea upon arrival. The rooms are huge! In Morocco, not all Riads are well maintained, Riad Le Sucrier De Fes is one of the rare find. Breakfast was the best we had in Morocco with variety and quality of home cooked meal. Unlike most Riad's which have paid housekeeper, Souad's (owner) touch at this Riad made a huge difference. She is from Fes and speaks English so she shared so much with us that made our short stay memorable. We wish we had stayed a bit longer.

A charming building from the 30's that has been converted into a hotel. It has a lovely courtyard. It was pretty cold in Fes while we were there, so the roaring fireplace in the common room and the good heaters in our unit were welcome. The owner arranged for a walking tour. One benefit of the location; it's all downhill through the souks. Then you can hop in a cab and return to the riad.

You need to be able to handle steep stairs for the room with the balcony, but I guess that’s the price you pay for a view ! A small fridge in the room would have been very useful.

Beautiful Riad in the Andalusian style built around a century ago. Nice balcony with our room which was quite sizeable. Lovely staff led by a charming host/owner who was always on hand to assist.

Relative to other Riads not highest attention to detail in terms of cleaning; and quality of breakfast but we were really spoilt elsewhere- Bathroom needs modernising; showering awkward without screens and bath use difficult without taps-

Charming Riad (our third and penultimate experience of Riad on a 17 days trip across Morocco) and the most expensive; best marmalade for breakfast - option of soaking pool was nice Youssef was a star- I would give him 10 out of 10 alone

The steps between the bedroom and bathroom are very dangerous especially in the middle of the night if you don’t remember where the light switch is. The curtains in the top level terrace room let the light in so make sure you have a mask. Lastly.. parking can be hazardous as the attendant, in our case, had us park in a place that blocked people from getting out of the house. Our car was keyed causing significant repaint cost. Make sure you ask Soad to verify where her parking attendant makes you park. The attendants just want your money and don’t necessarily work in your interest.

Our host Soad was very friendly and gave utmost attention to making our stay pleasant as well as recommending places to eat. We particularly appreciated Youssef who helped us to take our bags to the last floor room on the terrace and was extremely helpful in getting the restaurants to send someone to pick us up as some restaurants are very hard to find.

Lots of stairs - but of course, that is what you get in such an old rian. Not really a problem for us.

An old riad. Close to the heart of the medina. Charming. The staff was helpful though language was a bit of a strain. Good suggestions for dinner. A nice, simple breakfast. Our rooom had a rooftop area with a wonderful view.
