Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere could be a bit of improvement with the facilities, although they were absolutely functional. We stayed in the double room on the terrace, it was a little bit smaller and more basic than we initially expected, but I think this was because some of the photos online were from one of the other Amayour accommodations that is slightly more modern and light and airy. The mattress was pretty hard (compared to what we are used to), so we found it a bit uncomfortable to sleep on, especially after a full day of surfing and an achy body. There was just the one plug socket in the room so we couldn't have the fan and the lamp plugged in at the same time, or charge our phones over night, so we had to prioritise the fan overnight, then charge our phones at other times in the day.
We really loved staying at Amayour Surf Hostel, the staff were super friendly and got in touch with us via Whatsapp before our stay to arrange airport transport and to book us on for breakfast and additional activities. The views from the terrace were amazing, seeing the sunrise in the morning was so beautiful and the views of the ocean and beach in the distance were stunning. The food was absolutely incredible, and enough to fill double the amount of people that were there. It was so nice to all eat together at the long table, felt very much like a family. There was a social seating area on the terrace that was sheltered and stocked with cards and games for us to use. The Thursday night BBQ was awesome, so much food and delicious, it was really nice to share this event with the other local Amayour Hostel too. All the staff were incredibly friendly and it was so much fun to go surfing with the surf instructors and our group, they were all so fun and make the surf trips a lot of fun! They arranged all the transport and lunch too when surfing which meant all we had to do was show up at the right place, confirm our wetsuit size, and sign in. The guys even knew our board preferences after a day or two which was a lovely little touch.

Very nice localisation. Super close to the beach and 2 mins from the bus stop. Neat and clean but basic. Breakfast on the Rooftop just great. Tasty and rich. Rooftop is a great space to share conversation with other people. Great that staff can print your boarding passes

United KingdomIt was quite noisy all around. Doors were super creaky and hard to get a good nights sleep. The bed was super duper hard and not comfortable. We had a shared bathroom between 4 of us and it was way too small and needed cleaned a lot.
Great location, close to the beach and all the shops and restaurants. Loved the vibe of place, super friendly and laid back. We loved that you could mix and match different things like breakfast, dinner and surfing to how you fancy. We didn’t plan to surf everyday so it was nice we can join the group when we fancied and do our own thing when we fancied. Breakfast and dinners were amazing. Our favourite meal was by far the BBQ which was every Thursday. We also met a bunch of lovely people from all over the world which made the trip super fun and enjoyable.

NetherlandsRoom is pretty but has just 1 small window so it's quite dark - and as it was on the first floor right next to the staff kitchen, unfortunately it was a bit noisy with them coming in and out all the time slamming the door, with music on and talking loudly (which is understandable and not to blame them) but it starts pretty early in the morning. Bathroom on the first floor is very small and did not give a very clean, hygienic feeling but kudos to the cleaning lady for doing her best. Finally, the optional dining options were pretty disappointing and I think there are many options in town tastier and better value for the money.
Most staffs were friendly, location is good, cute rooftop.

Spainthe way they manage to ask you to pay. You have to pay by cash, if not they apply an insane % of taxes without any previous communication. I felt that they were ripping me off even if they weren’t at the end and it’s not a good way to start a holiday.

JapanOur room was next to the staff kitchen which was up and running about 8am each morning. The sound traveled freely through the building so that late night socialites conversations were easily heard along with the start of breakfast. Our room had a tiny window that opened into an aly way. No sound of the sea or sight, tiny amounts of natural light. Everything came with a price tag. 50mad breakfast, 120mad dinner, 100mad yoga, 30mad yoga mat rental. Having worked in several hostels around the world this didn't feel great, where most places will offer a breakfast and even free communal dinners at times and other free activities. The communal kitchen is very poorly stocked with utensils, The stove required us to track down staff to light it. Didn't feel very welcoming overall. Emily was super sweet, kids playing around are sweet.
The bed was very comfortable with nice linens. Nice decor. A lovely rooftop space to enjoy breakfast or sunset.

United KingdomFor all the great pictures this place really felt like it lacked soul. Staff weren't welcoming, and instead of any hellos or greeting we were told off for coming to the shop (hostel door was locked) and then asked to settle costs immediately. Throughout our stay there felt like a real focus on money, so much so that our dinner was interrupted twice with requests to pay for our surf lesson, where the staff then tried to overcharge us by about 50€ for additional items/meals etc not taken. Our surf trip was a complete waste of time, and the instructors delayed our starting and getting into the water taking Instagram videos for their account for about an hour with some guests on a retreat in the hostels villa. Overall, this place was disappointing, not super clean or comfortable and a general feeling of unease about money / staff trying to explain that their boss requested them to get payment during meals instead of at check out.. it wasn't a comfortable stay, and interactions with staff were awkward due to this. We did meet some amazing people during our stay, which was really lucky, however I wouldn't return to this hostel.
The roof terrace was great, the breakfast and dinner we had were tasty.

United KingdomQuite disorganised and cramped. At time of visit there is a lot of nearby construction, so not the best place to chill. Definitely don't do sandboarding with the hostel. They don't even use sandboards (they use old surfboards!) so bit of a rip off. Would suggest shopping around for surf instruction.
If you wanted to meet other travellers you would probably do so here. The breakfast is good. The hostel staff are friendly. Responsive to emails.

NetherlandsYou only see staff in the hostel in the morning, which is kinda weird. I didn't really felt the vibe there. Because there were so little people around and not really social. Also they organize events, but for now exmple I have never been asked to join surfing and only been asked few times to join dinner or breakfast. On the last day I just found out they organized yoga as well... Felt like the staff was just there for themselves and the other staff, instead of being there for the guests.
