Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThis place is something special. We stayed for two nights and were blown away by the setting, the hospitality, and the peacefulness of the surroundings. The property is filled with trees, flowers, and little paths that make it feel like a jungle retreat. The pool was always clean and inviting, perfect for a dip in the afternoons. Our room had a comfortable bed, great ventilation, and the outdoor shower was amazing — we even spotted a few fireflies while showering at night. Maleesha is a top-notch host who truly cares about his guests. Highly recommend!

SwitzerlandWe absolutely loved our stay at Woodland Sanctuary. From the moment we arrived, the host, Maleesha, made us feel welcome and taken care of. He arranged transport, gave us tips on what to see in the area, and was always just a message away if we needed anything. The rooms are beautifully designed and surrounded by lush greenery. The outdoor bathroom was one of the highlights — such a refreshing experience! We saw squirrels, frogs, and even a civet one evening while walking through the garden. Truly a peaceful getaway and one of the best places we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka.

The surroundings are breathtaking—tall trees, birds chirping, and a quiet, calming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel connected to nature. The room was cozy, clean, and thoughtfully designed with natural wood that blends beautifully with the environment. Every detail—from the comfy bed to the private outdoor seating area—was perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. What truly stood out was the hospitality. The team made me feel like family. They were always ready to help with anything I needed, whether it was arranging transport or sharing local tips. FranceI had the most peaceful and unforgettable stay at Woodland Sanctuary. Nestled right in the heart of nature, this eco-friendly retreat is the perfect escape from busy city life. Surrounded by lush greenery, birdsong, and a gentle jungle breeze, the atmosphere was truly magical. The rooms are beautifully designed—simple yet elegant—with natural wooden finishes that give a calm, earthy vibe. Everything was spotless and well-maintained, from the comfortable beds to the modern bathrooms. Waking up to the sounds of nature and enjoying a cup of tea on the balcony was the highlight of my mornings. The service was outstanding. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely cared about making my stay memorable. I especially appreciated the homemade Sri Lankan breakfast—fresh, flavorful, and made with love. What makes this place truly special is the peaceful location. Though it feels like a jungle hideaway, it’s just a short drive to all the major attractions like Sigiriya Rock, Dambulla Cave Temple, and Minneriya National Park for safaris. If you’re looking for a serene, nature-filled experience with heartfelt hospitality, Woodland Sanctuary is the perfect place. Highly recommended—I will definitely return!

ItalyI stayed at Woodland Sanctuary during my recent trip to the Cultural Triangle, and it was truly one of the most peaceful and rejuvenating experiences I’ve had in Sri Lanka. Nestled in the heart of nature, the hotel offers a tranquil escape surrounded by lush greenery and birdsong. The rooms are beautifully designed with a natural wooden theme, giving a cozy yet modern feel. Everything was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. What really stood out was the hospitality — the owners were incredibly warm and helpful, making sure every detail was taken care of. I also had the chance to join a traditional Sri Lankan cooking session hosted by the owner’s mother — such a memorable and delicious experience! Location-wise, it’s perfect. It’s close to Sigiriya, Dambulla Cave Temple, and the safari parks, but tucked away enough to feel like a proper retreat. Highly recommend this place for couples, families, or even solo travelers looking to relax and reconnect with nature

GermanyWoodland Sanctuary lives up to its name – a true haven tucked into the forest, away from the noise and stress of everyday life. The wooden rooms are beautifully crafted, with large windows that let in natural light and offer stunning views of the trees and garden. We spent most of our time relaxing on the veranda and enjoying the fresh air. One of the highlights was the cooking session with the host’s mother, who taught us how to make authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry. It was a heartwarming and unforgettable experience. Everything here is done with love, and it shows.
