Everything!!! We wouldn’t stay anywhere else! We loved it so much! Wonderful rooms and breakfasts served right on your own terrace overlooking the jungle, birds and monkeys! The owners are fabulous! So welcoming, helpful and kind.

The place is a true gem in the middle of Ella. Rooms are all made by wood and the structure has been all designed by the owner. He is an amazing host, making our visit so good, starting from the breakfast in front of the jungle till the waterfall visit we made in the afternoon. Super recommend!

We absolutely loved this hotel! Amazing hosts - very friendly and knowledgable. Couldn’t have been more welcoming. Few minutes walk to the town (or very cheap tuktuk if you didn’t want to walk back up the hill!) Comfy beds. Loved breakfast served on the balcony overlooking the jungle.

The location is very close to the center of Ella and the train station, yet still away from the hustle and bustle. It's a quiet area surrounded by lush vegetation, and you can see monkeys and squirrels from your room. The host was very kind, recommending restaurants and places to visit, and even helping us get to the station with our luggage. The freshly cooked breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Highly recommended.

The room was very unique, perfectly clean and very spacious. It smelled incredible too! The view from the balcony was wonderful, you felt like you were in the middle of the forest. The room was stocked with everything you need, we felt very at home. Breakfast on the balcony was great, would 100% recommend the hoppers. The owner, Lal, was extremely kind and helpful. We had car troubles when making the trip there and he went out of his way to help us and get us going. 10/10 must stay when in Ella!!

Nothing - this was a perfect experience for me.

I absolutely loved my stay at Winwood Ella. Our room felt like it was tucked away in the jungle, peaceful, private and surrounded by nature. Don't be put off by the unfinished exterior, once inside it is a hidden gem. The owner is incredibly kind and helpful, and the breakfast served on the v veranda was an absolute dream - fresh, generous and with beautiful views.

Chipmunks running about in the cavity above the room during the night making a racket! The room itself was very clean- I only marked it down because of the wildlife!

We really enjoyed staying at Winwood Ella. The owners are very warm and friendly people, and they go that extra mile in running their business. They know the region very well and helped us organising trips and transport, and they took really good care of us while we had a food poisoning, they even made us a natural medicine. We did find it slightly warm in the rooms without air-conditioning to sleep.

Don't let the front deceive you, the rooms are very nice and it's great to sit out on the balcony. The owners are lovely people and are there to make your stay enjoyable. If you walk along the train tracks to town it is super quick and not hilly.

We loved everything about Winwood Ella. The team was just lovely and really helped make our stay. Accommodation location, although on maps looks further from the center, could not have been better!! There is a shortcut, so it takes less than a 10 min walk by the train tracks, which is flat, to get to the main road through Ella with loads of restaurants and bars. Accommodation itself was beautiful, especially all the woodwork in our room. Super comfy beds, great size, and we had breakfast served on our balcony looking into the trees every morning. The staff have their own side door entrance, so you say what time you want breakfast the night before, and they set everything up, tap on the balcony doors, and breakfast is served! Best breakfast I think I had in Sri Lanka. The dhal and hoppers were amazing!! They were having some renovations in reception when we arrived ( early June 2025) but didn't impact us at all and should be completed by or in July I think they said. Honestly, I would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone, and if/when I visit Ella again, this is where I would stay. Thank you!

Winwood Ella is an absolute gem! The location is fantastic — close enough to explore everything in town, yet tucked away just enough to enjoy peace and quiet. One of the highlights for me was sitting on the balcony and watching animals casually wander past — such a unique and calming experience. It truly felt like being in harmony with nature. A perfect spot for anyone looking to relax and unwind. Highly recommended!

There is nothing not to like. It's all very good. Just a suggestion for the host to work a bit on the wifi speed and the water heater. But that's definitely not a negative. I would highly recommend winwood ella.

The place is exactly as shown in the pictures and more. Loved the way it is kept and the ambience, especially the valley view. The Host and his wife saw to it that we had a very comfortable stay and the homemade Sri Lankan breakfast was absolutely fabulous and yummy. Just a few mins walk away downhill are all the restaurants and cafes so the convenience is also very good.

A beautiful and original cabin. We love the outside shower. Lots of space for my family of 5. The owner was a great host. Breakfast was lovely and fresh Sri Lankan treats and fruit, plus eggs, coffee and juice. We had a bbq by the pool one night, which was one of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka. The pool was a good size and was perfect to cool off after our Sigiriya climb! Highly recommend this hotel.

I really enjoyed my stay! The room was clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The bed was very comfortable, The location was perfect—close to Ella Town, restaurants, but still quiet enough for a good night’s sleep. The staff were friendly and helpful, making check-in and check-out quick and easy. Overall, a great experience and excellent value for money!

Mr. Laal has a great facility and service. The rooms are spotless and the balconies overlook a beautiful forest. It is great to have breakfast there and watch the nature. The location is central and there are many restaurants, pubs, markets and shops around. It is within walking distance to the 9 arch bridge and other tourist attractions. Mr. Laal dropped us off at Yala park and from there to our hotel in Tangalle. He also arranged the Yala safari. Thank you once again. See you again.
