How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Organizes very good boat tours, also very good value for money. If we should return to Uppuveli, we would stay here again! Recommend!

Verified reviewMostly a clean room which was also cleaned thoroughly when we requested. Great location, only a couple minutes walk from the beach and restaurants. Air con worked great, wifi worked fine and it was overall comfortable stay. The best aspect of this stay was the hospitality though, as the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay went as smoothly as possible. Checkout time was flexible to what we needed so we weren’t in a tight rush to be out by a certain time, hot coffee was brought to our room without asking, when we needed a bottle of water and they didn’t have any, the owner bought one and brought it to our room as I was about to go out and buy one. On our last day, the owner helped my girlfriend with her phone which had ran out of data and helped us work out how to get to our next destination. They truly went above and beyond to help.
There was some very small stains on our bed sheets which was off putting for my girlfriend, so maybe just ensuring that all sheets are completely clean before making beds. The staff were very loud in the mornings which woke us up each day. These were only small things that could be improved and should in no way stop anyone staying here as it’s a great property.

Perfect location, and the loveliest staff, Abi and shafeer who run the place are kind and accommodating, I really recommend you stay here when in trincomalee, we stayed 5 nights but could have stayed much longer. Shafeer the owner also helped us organise the best scuba diving trip which was more affordable than any others we found in the area. Also you have to try the food in the connected Cafe, Izad is an amazing chef

Verified reviewResponsive host, had parking place for our tuktuk. We had soap and towels, which was a nice surprise. Also air conditioning was nice.
Bathroom could be cleaner, also no hot water. Had some enormous bugs, of course it’s in the wild but could be better isolated. Also noisy from outside at night.

Verified reviewLovely stay. Abi was so helpful with advice about transport, booking tuktuks, sorting scooter rental and food recommendations. Location is great, really close to beach and property is tucked away from main road so was quiet. Absolutely loved that the room had blackout blinds - we slept really well!
The shower only had cold water but this wasn’t a problem as we were able to use the hot shower in another room. It’s also warm in Trincomalee so some days, a cold shower was absolutely fine!

Verified reviewHosts are super friendly and helpfull, beds are comfortable, a/c is working fine. There is no water heater, but water is warm enough for showering. There is a shared kitchen with fridge and stove which we could use. Both room and bathroom are spacious. We have decided to stay longer than planned.

Verified reviewThe hotel is very close to the beach, it was very clean, the staff very accomodating. We actually booked for 2 people, but our friend decided to come as well and we were immediately put in a bigger room free of charge. The bed was lovely, we were given bigger towels and blankets when we asked. There was also a birthday party and were kindly invited the family in cake and friends. They had a lot of local knowledge and we really appreciate the help with organising buses for us. The manager even called to make a reservation for one us to ensure we got a seat on an AC bus. Overall, the hotel and family is very kind and hospitable and accomodating.
The only issues were communication issues. At first one of the employees informed us that the water available at the property would be free of charge. However when it came to pay we were asked for water consumption, which would not have been as high if we knew that we had to pay per bottle (especially since we have our own water filter bottles which we didn't use because we thought it was free). In addition, booking.com highlighted that cash is not accepted. Therefore we planned our trip accordingly. When the time to pay arrived we were told we could only pay in cash. This was unforeseen and caused some problems which we could solve eventually by paying with card through a third party.

Verified reviewThe owner was very helpful and kind in allowing us to extend and offering suggestions of things to do around the area. The room was really affordable and comfotable for me and my friends, as we each had a double bed to ourselves and could relax a bit rather than staying at a hostel, but for the same price. It is only a 10/15 minute walk to where most of the main shops/ bars/ beaches are.
My friend had ants in her bed and we reported this to the staff and the owner and nothing was done about it. It wasn't a massive issue, just a bit annoying that nothing was done.
