Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyI had a great stay! The room was spacious, the quiet surroundings of the house and the garden are beautiful and the food was absolutely delicious. Bodhika and his family are great hosts. They took me for a walk on a beautiful beach and for a trip to Galle. The family made me feel quite at home. I highly recommend staying there!

RussiaThe water in the shower was quite bracing and really refreshing 😁
We were really pleased to stay with Bodhika and his family. They're great hosts. Bodhika also dedicated a whole day to show us the picturesque surroundings of Wellagama: the jungle waterfall, the boat tour on the river Madu Ganga and Galle fort. The breakfast his charming wife cooks is absolutely awesome, especially when we saw the authentic kitchen where she cooks on the fire. The room is big and although it doesn't have air conditioning, the huge fan above is enough to cool the temperature down. It was really exciting and you can experience the true atmosphere of exotic Sri Lanka with locals.

Germany-
Our experience staying with this delightful family in their charming old house in Sri Lanka was simply unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in warmth and hospitality, feeling like part of their family. The accommodation was steeped in history, with every corner whispering tales of bygone days, making our stay feel like a journey through time. Our hosts showered us with genuine care and attention, ensuring every aspect of our stay was perfect. One of the highlights of our visit was undoubtedly the culinary adventure we embarked on. Each meal was a masterpiece, bursting with flavors and aromas unique to Sri Lankan cuisine. We felt truly blessed to savor some of the best dishes the country has to offer, lovingly prepared by our gracious hosts. Beyond the culinary delights, our hosts went above and beyond to immerse us in the rich culture and traditions of Sri Lanka. From insightful conversations to guided tours of nearby attractions, every moment was a lesson in history and heritage. A special mention must be made of the unforgettable cooking class we attended. Under the expert guidance of our host, we learned the secrets of Sri Lankan cooking, gaining invaluable skills and creating memories to cherish for a lifetime. In conclusion, our stay with this wonderful family was more than just accommodation – it was a cultural experience, an immersion into the heart and soul of Sri Lanka. We departed with full hearts, grateful for the memories made and the friendships forged. If you're seeking an authentic and enriching experience in Sri Lanka, look no further than this remarkable abode. We stayed for a week. Thank you so much🙏♥️ - very good wifi 😉😍

Czech RepublicThe owner asked me before I came If I would like to have a tour through a city or go to see whales. I said that I will think about the offer about the whales. I eventually found an ethical company that does not stress the whales so when I came I told him that I do not want to use his offer. He kept saying that he can offer me his tour. I told him that I found a different one. Yet he kept saying he has a better one..when I again refused he saddenly started saying that there is now "a big problem", that people now do not get to see the whales etc. So he just wanted me to pay him. After my stay he also wrote me on my personal phone that "I promised him to write a review and I still did not." Which I do not think is okay..
I really loved that this family has a lot of animals around! There is a cow, guinea pig and a lot of rabbits. The place is also in a nice area, not so far from a beach. They even prepared a delicious vegan dinner! Also the family is really kind.

The host is very kind. I was tired from moving but they welcomed me kindly. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. There is a lot of nature in the garden. lots of coconut trees. They treated me to coconuts harvested in the garden. There was also an iguana. It is a good opportunity to experience the Sri Lankan life. I experienced things that I could not experience in my own country. Staying in a homestay like this gives you a lot more experience than staying in an expensive hotel. Better than expensive hotels. hosts are like my family.

Costa RicaNothing, I would recommend this homestay to everyone!
The most welcoming family I’ve met on my trip. They really made me feel I was one of the family members. Chamila cooks the best food ever (don’t go to other restaurants, eat as much at home - it was so delicious!). My tummy was so full everytime. She has also a wonderful personality. Bodhika is a great host, he will tell you everything about Sri Lankan culture. He also has a great sense of humour. Their son Banu is so sweet and eager to learn! If you have a drone or camera: please let him take photos or videos. He makes beautiful vehicles out of cardboard too. Also location is good: Mirissa & Weligama can be very busy but here you’ll find a peaceful stay! The garden is beautiful full with animals and flowers. Room is clean and spacious with musquito net & ventilator. They have rabbits, fishes, a cow & a guinea pig! For me that was a nice surprise. If you want to go on whale watching trip: go with Raja & the whales. I will miss this wonderful family. Thank you so much Bodhika, Chamila & Banu, hope to see you one day again!

GermanyThe accommodation itself is rather average. But what makes the stay special is the family you stay with. Hospitality is very important here and you can have great conversations about Sri Lanka or the world. Rarely could I build a direct connection so quickly and enjoyed it. So if you are not into those anonymous hotels, but want to have direct contact with the locals, then I can only recommend a stay here. The location of the accommodation is a bit outside pretty much between Mirissa and Weligama. The way to the beach to Weligama is not far away and you can walk here for miles. This was really nice. The way to Mirissa is not so nice, but a ride with the tuktuk is recommended. I enjoyed my stay here a lot and would return anytime.
