Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChinaBreakfast was not good value for money, 2000 rupees a person, fruit plate, juice, eggs, a few pieces of bread. Breakfast does seem a bit expensive compared to other places I've stayed at and there is very little to eat
Convenient location, good room facilities, clean pool, close to the railway, can hear the train but it doesn't disturb the rest

United KingdomSometimes the noise from the trains was loud but it didn't bother us that much!
The room was a great size with a great view of the pool area. Staff were available to assist and help from the moment we arrived. Wild monkeys live directly behind the hotel and it was amazing as we got to feed them with the owner by hand which was absolutely incredible. Great location less than 5 minute walk to the main road and we loved seeing the trains drive each day.

Our stay was fabulous, Villa Kaya is a great location with very spacious, clean, well maintained rooms and bathrooms. Everything was in perfect working order. The staff are without exception helpful, courteous, friendly and professional, they anticipated our needs regarding the local community and gave us solid and helpful advice. The gardens and pool are well kept and cared for. I cannot recommend the property enough, Excellent stay, we will be back!

United KingdomBeing asked to pay on arrival and asking to use the tip jar.
Great location off the main street, so easy access to local shops, restaurants and beaches. Although being next to the railway line it was quiet enough not to be bothered by the hourly train. We had a 1st floor room which was perfect to look out over the pool or out the back watching the monkeys, comfy sofas on this level too. Pool was clean and sun loungers were great after being on the beach in the morning. Breakfast was of a good standard, fruit dish and choice of eggs were always welcomed and the staff were always pleasent. Look our for the afternoon bread tuk tuk, you will hear it - nice afternoon treats with a cup of tea ;)

United KingdomCouldn't fault it.
This hotel is superb and exceptional value for money. We stayed in six hotels on our recent trip to Sri Lanka and this was our favourite. Great location, five minutes walk to the beach and many local restaurants and shops but set back a little from the busy main street that runs through Hikkaduwa. There's a large supermarket just down the road with a wine/beer shop and several ATMs. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. A great breakfast and set in lovely gardens which are really well maintained. The pool is very clean and the sunbeds are comfortable. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean with a great bathroom, a comfortable bed and both air-con and ceiling fan. We stayed in Room 1 on the ground floor having terraces front and back. From the back you can watch a troop of friendly monkeys in the trees which come down at breakfast time to be hand fed the leftovers! There are also large monitor lizards which make regular appearances. We would happily stay here again.

United KingdomThe towels could have been changed part way through the week and a bed sized top sheet on the bed would have been nice.
Great location in the centre of town. minutes from the bars, restaurants and beach. First class breakfast with lots of fruit, yoghurts and eggs. Friendly staff and a large air conditioned nice clean room, with a great pool and lovely gardens. The monkeys were a bonus!

Everything, great facilities, large comfortable room and bed, Aircon fan and spotless. Fantastic breakfast, and staff were really welcoming helpful and friendly. Large immaculately kept grounds and a perfect pool area for children and adults alike. Only 5 minutes walk to the main street with cafes shops and bars and 10 minutes to the nearest beach. The best we've stayed in in Sri Lanka. I would recommend this to anyone.

United KingdomNot a great deal to complain about really. No hot water for the shower but as it was so warm during the day it was quite a relief to have a cool shower. People have commented on the train noise but we never noticed it.
Beautiful location away from the main street just over the railway line. Lovely garden that was always well tended. Allowed my wife and I to check in very early, 05.30 am after two flights from the UK. The Villa arranged our airport pick up so it was a breeze to get to. Two hours from Columbo. Very good sized room with all amenities, Pool nice and refreshing after a day out. We would have stayed longer however we only booked three nights to see if we liked Hikaduwa.

United KingdomNo, it was all good!
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Kaya Guest House. The owner was incredibly helpful and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The location is fantastic, just a short walk to the beach and lovely restaurants. The local Turtle Beach is a must-visit, where you can see large wild turtles in their natural habitat—a truly magical experience. The charming surroundings, including its proximity to the train line, added an authentic touch to our stay. The amazing breakfast each morning was amazing! It was a perfect base for our trip, and we’d happily stay here again. Highly recommended!
