BelgiumNo warm water in the shower, we had to show our reservation a couple of times before we could finally pay. Payment is rated by the current of today and not the current when we book it, which made it a bit more expensive.

The reef resort was good. Dean was a great host who couldn’t do enough for us as well as all the staff. 2 minutes walk to the beach and some bars/restaurants.

Czech RepublicWe stayed two nights at Reef Resort. The resort looks quite nice both in photos and in reality. The pool is surrounded by greenery, and most rooms have a view of it, along with either a small front garden or a balcony. Unfortunately, we were assigned a room next to the reception, facing the parking lot and a parked tuk-tuk—so privacy was basically nonexistent. I expressed my disappointment, as the room was advertised as having a balcony, but I was told that the one with a balcony had a broken air conditioner. The staff were kind and helpful. After I asked for a discount, they offered a $16 reduction for the family room, but no more. On the positive side, the room itself was spacious and clean. However, there was a constant stream of ants running through the middle of the room, and the sensation of ants crawling during the night was quite unpleasant. Towels provided in the room shed excessive lint and couldn’t really be used. The resort is within walking distance of a nice public beach. We didn’t use the pool and preferred to spend our time at the beach. Laundry service costs 1,000 LKR per kilo—just be aware they use a very strong-scented fabric softener, which may be too much for sensitive noses. It’s clear the owners and staff are doing their best and are genuinely friendly and accommodating. However, the room location by the parking area left us disappointed, and we didn’t feel like spending much time at the resort.

PolandThe only downside was that the room, especially the bathroom, wasn’t very clean, which was a bit disappointing. the breakfasts were quite poor – sometimes it wasn’t even possible to eat dinner at the hotel.
The swimming pool was amazing, the room had air conditioning which made it very comfortable, and the owner was really friendly. It was also very close to the beach, just a short walk away.
