Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe loved everything
Everything was absolutely perfect, the location so near to Lion Rock, the clean and comfortable cabin with the wonderful garden, the delicious food, but most of all our remarkable host Dinesh and his kind family who were some of the most friendly, warm, caring and service-oriented people we have ever met. Right from the start after having booked Dinesh got in contact with us, asked for any needs and offered his assistance.. He was so kind to give us recommendations to structure our visit so that we were best prepared to get the most of it and see everything we wanted to visit in the short time we had in Sigiriya. Besides giving good advises for Pidurungala, Lion Rock and our booking of a Lori safari, he also organized a safari to Minneriya National Park for us and I cancelled a respective booking made before via Getyourguide. And believe me, it was the best decision we could have made. It was an absolutely amazing experience, the driver/guide was extraordinarily experienced and had the fifth sense for the elephants, we saw so many of them and got so near, but always keeping a respectful distance to not disturb them (we went lateron to Yala NP, but Yala was by far not as impressive as Minneriya with the tour Dinesh organized for us). If you go to Sigiriya, do not hesitate to book the charming Otunna Guest house, you won't regret it! Thank you very much, Dinesh & family, we would love to come back!

SwitzerlandOne of the highlights of our Sri Lanka trip. A true gem, little guest house with a couple of rooms and chalets immersed in a jungle setting (yet perfectly located a few steps from some lovely restaurants and cafes in Sigirya). Gracefully managed by Dinesh and his wife and family, always there to help and suggest the best way to enjoy the surroundings. Breakfast was exceptional. Thank you Dinesh for taking care of us !

I had a wonderful stay at Otunna Guest House in Sigiriya. Dinesh and his father are very kind and welcoming, and make you feel at home from the very first moment. The atmosphere is warm and family-oriented, which makes the stay even more enjoyable and relaxing. The guest house is located in a beautiful and magic garden. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location is excellent for exploring Sigiriya and the surrounding sites. Breakfast was delicious and prepared with care. Dinesh and his family were always ready to help with advice, transport arrangements, and anything else needed. If you are looking for a genuine, friendly, and peaceful place to stay in Sigiriya, Otunna Guest House is a perfect choice. I truly recommend it for anyone who values hospitality and a family-like environment.

SwitzerlandThe entrance to the guest house is unnoticeable, a bit dark and unwelcoming BUT the inside is a real 'jewel'. Beware of the guides and 'helpers' at Lion's Rock; they pounce upon you. You need to NEGOTIATE a price with them if you use their services.
A family-run guest house with wonderful hosts especially Dinesh. The cabins were excellent accommodation - Swiss standards in terms of quality and cleanliness. Amazing! The breakfast and dinner were out of this world - varied, generous and a chance to try local cuisine without too much chilli! The restaurants and surroundings around the guest house were very attractive and it was close to Lion's Rock.

IrelandDinesh, his lovely wife and parents were without doubt a representative of the warmth of Sri Lankan people. It's such a gorgeous setting. We were amongst trees, birds and chipmunks. The cabin was the cleanest accommodation I've stayed in anywhere in the world. Breakfast was outstanding. We chose, she I highly recommend that anyone staying there does this, to have dinner there one night. It was the best food we have had in Sri Lanka. I would go back and I recommend without doubt to anyone who chooses this quant, warm, hospitable guesthouse.

United KingdomWe spent our first 2 nights in Sri Lanka here after going to Sigiriya straight from the airport, and what a way to start our holiday! This is a lovely place to stay, surrounded by nature and giving you a feeling of being in a forest...the host Dinesh is such an amazing person. Once you get to know him and his love for preservation, nature, local produce, and the wildlife it makes sense of the hotel setting. The accommodation was spotless, hot water, a/c everything above expectations including the warm welcome. Dinesh and his family really look after their guests and are eager to ensure you have a great time in Sigiriya. We had such a delicious Sri Lankan meal made from fresh seasonal vegetables prepared by his family - would definitely recommend. I don't think we had any Sri Lankan food as good anywhere else after. Anyone thinking of booking this accommodation should do so without hesitation and won't regret.

All. The few chalets of the guesthouse are located. in a small but nice equatorial garden. The chalet was very nice, all in wood, with nice comfortable beds, and the mezzanine was perfect for our teen daughter. The breakfast is fabulously generous and delicious with plenty of Sri Lankan delicacies. The location is very convenient, close to plenty of restaurants/bars. But above all, the couple owning the guest house is adorable and wonderful hosts. Dinesh made sure our plans were all settled and arranged all we needed before and during our stay. Our toddler son felt at home from day 1 and would always go and tell his day to our hosts :)

NetherlandsThis place was incredible. The room, bed and breakfast were great. The hosts were very kind and organized, and happy to help an unorganized person like me put together a small itinerary for Sigiriya. The location is also perfect - within walking distance of Lion’s Rock. I only stayed one night, but when I arrived I regretted not being able to stay for longer. When I booked I was surprised at the high rating. But after staying here I definitely understand!

AustraliaNothing everything was fabulous
From the moment we walked into the beautiful garden of the property we were made to feel welcome and comfortable by Dinesh and his family. Greeted with a delicious fresh juice and generously given an upgrade to an available room. Dinesh helped to organise transport for us, constantly checked in to see we had everything we needed and suggested things for us to do. The food was abundant and absolutely delicious and the lovely touch of a complimentary fresh lime juice bought to the room in the evening. The room itself was very comfortable with lots of thought provided all the little extras that make a comfortable stay..The family is passionate about preserving the beauty of Sigiriya its nature and animals whilst managing tourism to UNESCO site. Highly recommend this family run guest home.
