Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe were so impressed by the hospitality shown to us. We felt they went above and beyond to provide us transport to & from Colombo, ensure our safety as we were doing the local hikes, providing wonderful meals, and organizing a private safari to see elephants. The property was super clean, absolutely beautiful, and easy walking distance to both Pidurangala & Sigiriya Rock. We loved sitting outside surrounded by the jungle, eating a meal, and just taking in the beautiful surroundings. We even saw monkeys on and around the property! We would absolutely recommend staying here if you are coming to the area!

SpainLike everywhere in Sri Lanka the room was humid but we solved the problem turning up the aircon.
Right in nature, this homestay is cozy and the owner is welcoming. The location could not be better near the two highlights of the town, both rocks. I had gotten food poisoning a few hours before my arrival and the owner was extremely nice and attentive. I love this lady! Breakfasts are homemade and yummy.

Hospitality of the owner. I immediately felt like being at home. Owner and her family were very friendly and welcoming. They gave me good advice and also organised things for me. It’s walking distance to both Lion’s rock and Pudurangala Rock. From the property, you can see both of them which I found amazing. Enjoyed the cold beer after hiking too!

SpainOur stay was wonderful! The host is incredibly helpful and attentive to everything. What we really appreciated is that she treats you as a guest, not just as a tourist – she doesn’t try to take your money at every step, in fact she even helps you avoid being overcharged by recommending places and things to do at fair local prices. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom spotless with no ants at all. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and the dinner she personally cooked for us was amazing. She respected our request for “no spicy food” (although I enjoy spice, it was still tasty and very well prepared) and the price was very reasonable. We would definitely stay here again!

BelarusWe liked everything very much
It was really cool to live next to Sigiriya. We visited Pidurangala, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa. We really liked the hotel. It had everything we needed: hot water, air conditioning, a comfortable bed. The hotel itself is very interestingly decorated, quiet and clean. A beautiful garden. For the first time in my life I saw mangoes growing right next to the house. The room is cozy. And there are really no mosquitoes! We felt completely safe and comfortable, we had a nice evening outside near the house. If you have any questions about how something works or how to go on safari, ask the owners. They are a very nice and attentive family, they will explain everything and help. Breakfast and dinner were excellent! The hotel is very conveniently located - next to Mount Pidurangala and Sigiriya. The owner showed us a beautiful view of both mountains nearby, not everyone knows about this. An unforgettable experience to live in the jungle. We sincerely thank the hospitable family for a wonderful holiday and a warm welcome, we will remember Sri Lanka. I recommend this hotel as an excellent accommodation. And we really hope to see you again!

United KingdomWe had the pleasure of staying at Thal Sewana Home Stay for three nights. The property is located in a nice and quiet area, close to the main attractions – Pidurangala Rock is a 5-minute walk away, and the town center is about a 15-minute walk. You can also admire Sigiriya (Lion’s Rock) nearby. The room was nice and clean, with a comfortable bed and air conditioning. Hot water was available in the bathroom. We were served a delicious breakfast with a great variety of Sri Lankan cuisine. There is also a local restaurant on the property. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness. Our hosts have lovely dogs as well.

Saman and his family were so so kind and caring. They made us feel so at home in their home. Samans mother is an amazing cook and just has the most amazing energy. She washed our clothes and all. Saman took us to a lovely spot nearby to watch the sunset too, it was so special. Saman and his family have been a huge highlight of our Sri Lanka stay

PortugalEverything went perfectly. Just one suggestion: it would be useful to have a lamp next to the bed.
The room was very good and the bathroom was very big and had hot water and very decent water pressure. The food was great. We had lunch and dinner there and they were delicious, homemade meals. They also have really cold beer and the breakfast was very good too. The location is very good. It's very close to the Pidurangala Rock and 25min walking to the Lion Rock. The owner also arranged us transportation for doing the lion rock at the sunset, which worked out perfectly. The entire family is very welcoming and helpful. Thanks for this great stay

SpainAbsolutely nothing. We can’t wait to come back.
The hostess and her son were the most delightful people we have met here (and for Sri Lanka that is saying something). She treated us like we were family, gave us advice and helped us with everything we needed. Both breakfast and dinner were exquisite, true homemade traditional food, and the place is relaxed and quiet, in the middle of nature. She even gave us some bananas from her garden when we left! By FAR the BEST place we have stayed at in Sri Lanka. Thank you so much for everything.

We spent 2 nights at Thal Sewana and liked it so much. It’s in a peaceful setting in the countryside just outside Sigirya, and is one of the most welcoming places we’ve ever stayed in, thanks to Wasanthy the lovely, kind owner. We ate there both nights, tasty home-cooked food.

Such a lovely location, quiet and easily walkable to both Lion Rock and Pidurangala Rock. The house is quiet and comfortable and the hosts are so lovely and welcoming and organised our onward taxi to Kandy with a stop off in Dambulla, which we’d have missed otherwise. AustraliaWe loved our stay here and what a great host! I had food positioning the night I arrived and she really looked after me and make me feel comfortable. All the facilities were great like the hot showers and comfortable beds. The seating area was also a sociable space so great to chat amongst a small group or meet some friends. I would recommend anyone to stay here; especially where the location is close to both of the main rocks with one of the best views being just outside the gate of the property!
