Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyOur stay in Tathya Hills was very comfortable. We appreciated the cozy environment of the house. Kumar and his team were very welcoming, attentive and helpful with all questions that we had. The highlight of our stay was the dinner. lt was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, showcasing both local flavors and homestyle comfort. We only stayed for one night, but it was memorable and relaxing experience. We would happily return and highly recommend this cottage to anyone visiting Nuwara Eliya who values comfort, good food, and great hospitality.

IsraelOur Best stay in Sri Lanka! We were a group of 8, adults and teenagers. The house was amaizingly decotated, very warm and yet modern. While the teenagers enfoyed Play boards, we had a quiet time to talk. The villa and the rooms were a quality of a 5 stars hotel. The dinner was delicous and Kumar, the manager, and each one of the team, were extremely nice. We asked for a late checkout and they approved it was no problem. Thank you! We had a lovely stay ❤️

ItalyThe house is very cozy and welcoming, as it is the room - high attention to details. Sometimes it could feel a bit cold inside, because of the location in the mountains, but it is sufficient to ask the staff. Staff is really friendly and always available to help you with a smile. The breakfast was also rich and tasty. We would definitely recommend it!

AustraliaThere are some minor improvements that can be easily achieved. For example heaters should be made available in the rooms without requesting. The fireplace (particularly for this weather) could be kept lit more often.
The Building and rooms were very homely and cosy. The staff were very attentive and responsive when called. The food (we opted for Sri Lankan food) was excellent so much so that we ate inhouse for dinner 2 nights in a row. They even catered for our request for watalappan - a SL speciality dessert. With the unseasonal cold weather at the time, the fireplace was lit and heaters were provided on request.

AustraliaIt's not walking distance from the center of town, but easy enough to take a tuktuk there.
A little oasis! This is a really reasonably priced boutique stay. I loved the cosy shared lounge area between the rooms, the staff especially Kumar and Sudarshan really looked after us. Dinner was one of the best meals of the trip, and the chef was able to handle a tricky dietary requirement. Room and bathroom were sleek and moody. Definitely recommend this place.

NetherlandsTathya Hills is a lovely place in the (mountain) village of Nuwara Eliya. It’s located a little outside the city, which is perfectly fine—you can reach the city center in just 10 minutes by tuk-tuk. The property is beautifully maintained, and the building itself is charming. There are three floors, each with a maximum of three rooms that open onto a shared living room. It feels warm and homely, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. During our stay, it was cold and rainy, and the fireplace was lit for us. This was not only wonderfully warm but also added a very cozy ambiance. We had dinner in the living room, with the entire floor to ourselves, which felt homely and was a nice change of pace. The building features beautiful wooden floors, so you can occasionally hear guests upstairs walking around. This is not an issue, but it’s good to be aware of. We didn’t find it disturbing at all. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of activities—spacious, comfortable, and welcoming. Manager Kumar keeps a close eye on everything and genuinely wants to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure you have everything you need. They can also connect you with the neighbor for day trips in and around Nuwara Eliya, which is very convenient. We would definitely recommend this accommodation for a 1 or 2-night stay in Nuwara Eliya while traveling through Sri Lanka.

AustraliaThe common areas were quite cold, as the windows did not completely seal from the outside and there was no heating in the common areas, other than the fire. A few extra touches would really elevate the place, like daily cleaning of rooms and improved breakfast selection. We have seen a number of these issues to do with the property have been raised in the previous reviews and we hope that the owner takes them on board.
Tathya Hills was a cosy haven away from the rain and wind. Mr Kumar, Sudhasan and the other staff were very attentive and made a real effort to make sure we had a comfortable and relaxing stay. We hope the owner appreciates the work and effort the staff put in, they’re doing a great job.

United KingdomIt was quite cold out and since the room had no heating, it was a bit chilly. But we found a space heater, which was helpful.
The design was beautiful and the common spaces were so cozy! We especially loved the fireplace. Within a short walk you can see the stunning Lover’s Leap waterfall! The manager Mr Kumar and his team were attentive and helpful.

SpainExceptional Hospitality & Unforgettable Stay at Tathya Hills! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic short stay at Tathya Hills – from the moment we arrived, the team made us feel completely at home. They lit the fireplace and even provided heaters in the rooms to keep us warm during the chilly weather, which was such a thoughtful touch. Dinner in the dining area was absolutely delicious – a truly cozy and welcoming atmosphere. It’s definitely a place we would love to return to. What truly made the experience unforgettable was the exceptional hospitality from the staff. Every single person went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Special thanks to: Manager Kumar and his amazing team Chef Viswa & Chef Naveen, who prepared incredible meals Yenuka, who was kind and attentive throughout They even organized a beautiful surprise for our friend Partis birthday – Chef Naveen baked an incredible date cake, the team decorated the breakfast area, and everyone came together to offer birthday wishes. It was such a heartfelt and personal touch that meant the world to us. Although the weather didn’t allow for sightseeing, the stay itself was so warm and memorable that we didn’t miss it at all. This is a place we can’t recommend enough – a true gem with the kind of hospitality that stays with you long after you leave.

A tranquil, modern and well looked after retreat in Nuwara Eliya. Mr Kumar and his team were so friendly and accommodating. The beds were so comfy and spacious, the food was delicious and the staff were so efficient. We requested a late dinner after 22 hours of travel and it was our first Sri Lankan food experience. Mr Kumar introduced us to his gardener who also looks after their own vegetable garden which was served for dinner. Can’t recommend this place enough!

PakistanNothing worth mentioning.
We stayed here as a family consisting of three kids and I can certainly say that it was unarguably one of the best accommodations we have stayed in during our international trips. The property is very artistically done. Hygiene wise - spotless! Staff was super courteous, professional, and most importantly, incredibly friendly. Kumar, the property manager, and his staff deserve great accolades for the quality of service and hospitality they offer to their guests. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for families! The quality and quantity of the complimentary breakfast were exceptional. The pictures accurately represent the facilities.
