Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyMinor issue or simply good to know: the road is a bit dark so we preferred to always take tuktuks when coming back in the evening (never had troubles finding one)
We enjoyed our time at Swiss House and we even extended our stay one extra night :) The price-quality ratio is excellent. We liked the possibility to use the kitchen to have breakfast and aperitivo on the terrace, and the room was welcoming and clean. Needless to say, the villa and its garden are beautiful. The beach is at walking distance.

AlbaniaVery beautiful located property, nice garden and the towards the end of Nilaveli so it feels like being among the locals and not like one of the big holiday resorts. The room had everything I needed. The owner was very nice as well, got me a bicycle to get around the area.

Czech RepublicSwiss House is like a miracle in the middle of Nilaveli village. Beautiful very spacious villa with a big roof terrace, hidden in a large garden full of palm and banana trees, parrots and many other birds. There is an apartment on the first floor with a shared living room, fully equipped kitchen and four rooms with private bathrooms. Everything is new, very clean, and with elegant furniture. We had a washing mashine at disposal and could eat coconuts and bananas from the garden. It was nice to simply relax there or walk 20 minutes to a beautiful Nilaveli beach. Manager of the house arranged a scooter and snorkeling trip for us. And the are plenty of small family restaurants nearby. We simply loved this place!!

United KingdomIt's quite rural, quiet, secluded, secure, and stunningly beautiful, monkeys, peacocks, mongoose, and parrots it's beautiful.
This Condo/ Apartment is probably the best place iv stayed. I travel extensively in Asia, and have fallen in love with Sri Lanka. The beach is a short walk away, it's lush. The sea is clear, it's great. I was the first person to stay here, it's stunning, in it's own walled and fenced gardens, immaculately kept., with fresh coconut and bananas, just there to be picked. But the glory of this place is the accomodation, it's on 2 floors, 1 condo upstairs 1 down. Elegantly furnished with EVERYTHING you could need, spotlessly clean, cctv throughout the property. It's been a real joy staying here, in fact I'm thinking of changing my plans to return, it's that good. No crowds, supermarket, restaurants, and shops 5 minutes away. I truly can't find words to tell you about this place, only im sure you will enjoy it as I have.

NetherlandsReally hard beds. In the evenings, the roads leading to the villa are dark, and the beach and restaurants are a mere 15-20 minute walk away. The housekeeping and cleaning services don't get nearly enough attention, and the fuses often blow, because there are simply too many appliances in the villa
The villa is located in a residential area, or rather a small village center, a 15-20 minute walk from the beach via sandy paths and some paved roads. Tuk-tuk service is minimal here, so there's a good chance you'll have to walk. It's not a homestay or hotel, but a villa where they rent rooms. A beautiful garden and a spacious room with air conditioning (it blows hard) and a fan, with wide but hard beds. The shower (electric) is okay, but the bathroom could be cleaner. During our stay (and when all rooms were occupied), the fuses regularly blew as soon as another shower was turned on, for example. We didn't really use the common area. But there is a sitting area and a kitchen with a refrigerator. There's no real responsibility for cleaning up, which you can see in the stacking of (clean) dishes.
