Located on a steep hill but still closer to the main street than many of the alternatives it gets nightlife noise but it's walkable from town, no need for a tuk tuk every time you want to go out. Mosquito net helps with the bug situation.

Due to its proximity the music from the bars can be heard at night. The windows stay partially open and could need a good cleaning and mosquito nets. The poor three dogs occupy the terrace and like lying in front of the Appartements room door.

Extremely close to downtown. Friendly host. Good mosquito net for the bed. Big terrace, good for sitting. We could dry our clothes on the laundry lines hanging there.

This place is amazing. I loved being surrounded by nature and enjoying the beautiful view. The bed and pillows are super comfortable, and everything was very clean. It was really nice to sit on the balcony and read. I truly loved the place. The only thing I didn’t like was the bar across the street playing music all day. The only good thing is that they stop the music around 10:30 PM. The staff are friendly. Sometimes no one is around, but you can contact them on WhatsApp and they reply right away.

Fantastic location. Up a steep hill to get there but was no issues for us. Room was spacious, little fridge with kettle and some tea/coffee, and a fan and mosquito net. Bathroom could do with a little TLC but was fine for us and what we needed. It was sheer bliss sitting on the balcony in the mornings, watching the sunrise over the mountains, listening to the birds and the squirrels play. I would return in a heartbeat!

Very loud, hard to sleep without ear plugs. Music, tuk tuks, dogs barking. Likely people heading home after drinks..then going out early for sunrise trips.. The room build is standard Sri Lankan so not soundproof. I think the noise will affect most places not just here. Able to buy excellent ear plugs in the supermarket on the main street.

Location good although steep to get to from main street, though plenty of tuk tuks should you prefer over walking.. host helpful arranging onward travel and bringing water each day.

We had a wonderful stay at Sunbeam Homestay in Ella. The location is perfect—everything is within walking distance, from great restaurants to hiking trails and the train station. The beds are super comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep, and the balcony is a peaceful retreat with plenty of privacy. The view from the balcony is absolutely stunning—perfect for enjoying a quiet morning coffee or unwinding after a day of exploring. Each morning, we were greeted by squirrels and birds, which made the experience even more special. The hot shower was a real treat after a long day out, with great water pressure and plenty of heat. During the day, it’s incredibly quiet, making it a great place to relax. In the evening, music from the nearby bars does carry over, but it wasn’t a big issue for us—just bring some earplugs, and you’ll be fine! Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend it.

Lovely homestay very close to main road but still you do not hear such traffic noise. We had room with balcony, and nice view. The host is super friendly and easy to talk to. The bed is comfortable, room os clean and you have everything you need in the room. And as a plus you can observe from balcony plenty of birds and squirels.

Bed was very comfortable, hot shower , great location with it being a 5 minute walk into the centre and really good value for money. The host was very helpful as they gave us advice on the bus times and also made us tea ☕️ on arrival.

The facility of the double room was quite basic. Probably due to the rainy weather, the moisture level in the room was very high. I appreciated that the host tried his best to get rid of the moisture but the blanket felt still very wet when I slept. Of course, the next day it was already better.

The host was very polite, friendly and caring. We were welcomed with hot tea and some cookies. He was also quite flexible when we decided to change our accommodation plans. The room was very clean and quiet. The location is one of the best. And good value for money.
