Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

From the moment we arrived at Suman Beach Rooms, we felt like special guests in a family home. Located just a 3‑minute stroll from the serene Nilaveli Beach, this cozy B&B is in a perfect spot for easy beach days and exploring nearby attractions like Pigeon Island National Park and the Kanniya Hot Springs . Our room was spacious – with a private bathroom, balcony overlooking the garden, crisp AC, reliable Wi‑Fi, and great comfort overall . It quickly became our peaceful little haven after a day in the sun. But what truly set this place apart was the warmth of the hosts—Suman, Mallika, and their family. They greeted us even during our early arrival, having our room already prepared . Mallika’s home‑cooked Sri Lankan breakfast on the terrace was a daily treat—delicious, generous, and served with heartfelt kindness . The atmosphere is so relaxed and welcoming—complete with friendly cats, chickens wandering through the garden, and a homely ambience that truly made us feel “at home” . They went above and beyond by helping arrange tuk‑tuks, and transfers, you name it—with helpful, local insider knowledge . In short: Location: 2–3 minute walk to the beach, with easy access to local attractions Accommodation: Clean, comfortable rooms with AC, private bathroom, balcony/garden view Hosts: Exceptionally friendly, considerate, and accommodating Extras: Tasty breakfasts, reliable Wi‑Fi, bike/tuk‑tuk tours, laundry, on‑site parking We wholeheartedly recommend Suman Beach Rooms if you're after a genuine, comfortable, and caring place to stay in Nilaveli. Thanks to Suman, Mallika, and the entire team for an unforgettable stay—we’ll definitely return! 🙏

United StatesNot much, honestly. The property surpassed our expectations.
We rented a room in Malika's family home, where she has several rooms to rent. The room was impeccably clean and new, beds were comfy, the shower was great (no hot water needed during our stay), and the AC was perfect. The home is a couple of blocks from the beach (great beach BTW), tucked in the middle of the small, quiet village of Nilaveli. This allows us to stroll the streets of the village for an immediate feeling of what the local life is, from the neighboring eggplant garden, the kids playing in the streets, to all the locals peacefully chatting, waving, and smiling at you. There are also plenty of restaurants around We were impressed by Malika's hospitality and an apparent ever-smiling face, which makes you feel very welcome all the time.

AustraliaHighly recommended!!! I loved staying here. I booked for 2 nights and stayed for 4. Malika and Suman make you feel so comfortable. They are so kind and friendly, and they work so hard. I stayed in the basic room without ac and it was great. Super clean with everything I needed. The location is perfect, just 200 metres to the beach, restaurants, snorkelling tours etc but really quiet. It feels like a very small and safe village. Just wonderful! Thanks again Mali and Suman.

GermanyThis is not really criticism, but more of points which could be improved for an even better experience: A cotton towel would have been nice. The towel was sufficient but as it was mostly plastic it wouldn't soak up that much water. A second bedsheet to use as a cover at night would be nice, as I like to sleep with a cover, even in tropical climate. Maybe send that rooster, along with all the others in the village, to therapy, so they won't start crawing in the middle of the night. ;-)
First of all: The room and facilities are very basic but wholly sufficient and really good value for the money. I've slept in worse places for a way higher cost. The room was spotless clean when I arrived, with a newly washed bed sheet and cleaned pillows. The bed was very comfy and long enough, even for me (1,98m). There was a lockable cabinet for valuables, which was a nice touch. The A/C worked fine and had enough power to make me shiver. The fan above the bed is really nice if you don't want to sleep with the A/C on. There is a mosquito net, but I didn't need it. The location is really good as it is just a very short walk, of 3 minutes, to a really nice beach. There are no beach bars or restaurants at this beach, so grabbing a beer, at the wine shop, and drinking it while gazing at the stars on the the beach was my guilty pleasure in the evening. There are numerous restaurants in a 5 minute walking range. More than I could try out in 5 days. But the best was the hospitality of Suman, Malika and their children. I immediately felt welcome. Malika is a great cook, which leads to a very tasty breakfast on the terrace for a small price (800Lkr) and she even has her own stall near the beach, where she sells snacks like fried dhal, fried prawns and "chili-donuts". All of it was a treat as well.

United KingdomHighly recommended place to stay in Nilaveli. Malllika is super kind and also makes the best breakfast for a great price !!… we arrived ridiculously early after a night train but she still welcomed us with coffee and place to chill before our room was ready. Very close to the beach and lots of places to eat close by. Mallika can help arrange tuk tuks, bicycles etc for the going rate with locals. Had a fabulous time here .

GermanyThe budget accomodation is very close to Nilaveli beach and the family ist very friendly and helpful. I got tea or coffee, got laundry service and a Tuk Tuk was organised to go to Trincomalee bus staion very early in the morning. It is definitely an accomodation worth to stay if you want to stay at Nilaveli beach or explore the surrounding sights.
