All I can say is wow!. Some of the best experience amongst our travels across asia. The host and her two sons are so polite and welcoming of us into their home. Everything was clean and worked correctly. Quite place nestled out of town. We decided to have dinner here both nights, the food was out of this world. It came fruit and dessert. So convent after a long day. More then enough food for two people With how she explains her situation, we were more then happy to spend money eating her home cooked meals. They helped with guiding us to our next location. Dropping us where we needed to go. A new hammock was built whilst we were staying. Very wholesome moment watching the children enjoying it.

Absolutely loved our stay here. The family are so welcoming and friendly. The breakfast is amazing and we also had dinner with them every night. The food Chandrika cooks is amazing. Also, really enjoyed playing cricket with her two sons and they taught us how to play Karum. True home stay experience. They felt like family! Would 100% recommend!

We had the most wonderful stay here, it was truly the best homestay experience we’ve ever had anywhere and felt like finding a second home. The room was spotless and perfectly maintained, but what made this place unforgettable was our incredible host. She and her sons welcomed us with genuine warmth and kindness, treating us like family from the moment we arrived. Every day she spoiled us with delicious homemade traditional meals, each one unique and full of love, it felt like we were experiencing authentic local cuisine in the best possible way. She also helped us organize a safari trip, which turned out to be absolutely amazing and one of the true highlights of our entire Sri Lanka journey. The location was also great, very peaceful and quiet, but also close to main attractions. It was the perfect balance for exploring during the day and relaxing in the evenings. This is not just a homestay, it’s an experience filled with warmth, care, and hospitality like no other. We left with full hearts (and full stomachs!) and cannot recommend it highly enough.

A bit pushy about doing a Safari. We felt bad about the amount of food we couldn't finish.

Lovely Family, a single mom with two boys. They cooked the most amazing dinner and breakfast, also washed a laundry for a good price. They offered fruit and tea. Also they took care of my dietary needs (no wheat). Their friends offer safari in minneriya and taxi. The room is very nice, very clean, ac works well, warm shower if you use the shower head directly connected to the heater. You can have meals on front porch overlooking the lovely garden. Great location to walk to a lot of restaurants and food stands. They also took us to lions rock at 5 am and picked us up again for a very reasonable price. They helped is which busses we should take, even took us to the bus stop when we left.

Super clean facilities, charming host family, green courtyard. Breakfast and dinner were both amazing, incredible value for the price. We absolutely recommend to have dinner at the homestay and experience Chandrikas great cooking skills! We spent a lot of time with this wonderful and welcoming family and happily recommend staying at Sanu Homestay.

THIS IS THE BEST HOMESTAY EVER!!!!! Our favourite in Sri Lanka by a long way. We loved the whole family who were so accommodating and friendly. Chandrika cooked us a massive delicious dinner and breakfast which was incredible. We also played carrom with her two sons after and had a lovely conversation. They're such smiley friendly people to be around 😊. The room itself is gorgeous with a clean modern en suite and comfortable bed with mosquito net. The rest of the property is just as beautiful. Nothing - everything was perfect.

This was hands down the best hospitality we've had across almost 20 countries. The host and her wonderful son made us feel like family immediately and went out of their way to help us with everything we needed during our stay - activity recommendations, tuk tuk rides, laundry and even fixing my backpack when it broke. They are such amazing people and we loved getting to know them. The room was spotless and had everything we needed for our stay, including thoughtful extras like a travel adapter plug and a good mosquito net. The bathroom was spacious and very clean, and the air conditioning and wifi were both good. The location was very handy to local restaurants and was a short walk from the main bus stop. The breakfasts were absolutely incredible, with different food every day which kept us full until dinner. We also ate dinner at the homestay one night which was also delicious - the best food we have had in Sri Lanka. We can't recommend this homestay enough!!!

Absolutely nothing - it was perfect!

We loved everything about our stay at Chandrika’s place. Chandrika & Sanu made us both feel absolutely at home & very, very welcome. The breakfasts varied each day, and both were incredible (and huge!). Chandrika also offered to cook dinner for us - the meal was probably the nicest meal we have had / and will have in Sri Lanka! The room was perfect - air conditioning, extremely clean, a mosquito net, good shower & a comfy nights sleep. The area is approximately a 10 minute walk to nearby shops and restaurants. It felt very peaceful! Chandrika went above and beyond to help us out during our stay - by offering lifts into town, and even one at 5AM to Pidurangala Rock. Chandrika also recommended an elephant safari trip & helped organize this for us. It exceeded expectations and was definitely a bucket list trip! We were welcomed with open arms, and felt like part of the family. Chandrika & Sanu are incredibly kind & welcoming people, and they made our visit to Sigiriya, it wouldn’t have been the same without meeting them. We would love to have spent more time here, and we were sad to have to leave. Chandrika felt like our Sri Lankan mum!

Follow the signs from the main road and don't trust google maps regarding the street. Maybe the signs could be a bit bigger just because there are so many others as well.

Our hostess (plus her two helpful sons including the titular Sanu) at Sanus Homestay were absolutely wonderful. Situated in the town of sigiriya it is easy to reach the monument and the rock next to it. Theoretically you could walk to the surrounding restaurants, but the family food is so much better than the restaurants there! I can only recommend to dine "at home". Breakfast was also something different delicious every day. And the portions are huge! On our way there we had an accident (only a scratch) and the whole family helped communicating with the insurance and navigating them to the Homestay the next day. The room was extremely clean as well as very new with an aircon and very good water pressure.

We loved our stay here and wish we had more time here and in Sigirya. From the moment we got here the owner and her sons so welcoming and friendly. The home stay is very clean, relaxing and peaceful. A 10 minute walk to some places to ear or a short Tuk Tuk away to the main area (you can also walk). A very delicious breakfast was prepared for us in the morning. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Nothing! Everything was amazing!

The family that lived there could not have been more welcoming. They made us feel like part of their family. The property was so comfortable and clean. The air con and fan were brilliant. The room smelt amazing. Chandrika, Sanu and Hasan were so keen to help us organise a local cooking class and safari. Chandrika and her mother in law made the most delicious breakfast for us. More food than we could eat! We look forward to coming back to see them again! Sthuthiy!

Nothing really! Just Sigiriya in general is dangerous to walk at night because of Elephants, so be careful.

Very comfortable room with desk to work and good wifi! The family is the highlight of the trip. Just know that you’ll be staying with a family! We loved the experience though. Great breakfast!

Everything was great

My stay with Chandrika and her family was exceptional, I highly recommend it. Chandrika and her sons are always there to help you, keep you company and are very kind. Everything is perfect: the room has everything you need and is very comfortable. It's very clean and you can tell it's new (mosquito net in perfect condition, clean and comfortable mattress). It's just a little hot during the night because there's only a fan, but I knew that when I booked and it's quite bearable. The homestay is well located, a 10-minute walk from the center. The surrounding area is quiet. Chandrika picked me up when I arrived and dropped me off at the bus stop when I left, giving me tips on how to get to Dambulla. She also cooks very well, I had dinner and breakfast there and was able to learn more about Sri Lankan cuisine. The portions were huge, and she even offers me leave with some bananas and rotis. They also took me to Pidurangala rock at 5am, which was really convenient. You can see that this family wants your stay to be perfect and pays attention to every little detail. Chandrika even texted me to make sure I arrived safely in Kandy. She was like my Sri Lankan mom! Conclusion: I recommend spending some time with this family, who know how to make you feel welcome and make things easier for you! There's a reason why people take the time to write long reviews. It's really a great life experience to meet this family

Amazing Stay! Highly Recommended! I had the most wonderful experience during my stay here! The family running the place was incredibly kind and welcoming, making me feel right at home. The mother and her two well-mannered sons were absolutely lovely, and you could tell they genuinely care about their guests' comfort. The breakfast was absolutely delicious – such a great way to start the day! And the room? Spotlessly clean and cozy. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. The stay at Sanu Homestay was amazing. amazing in that the owner is a lovely person. You can only meet such good people in Sri Lanka I think 🙂 She is very nice, helpful, lovely, she takes care of her guests like I have never experienced anywhere else. She has two lovely sons who help and are very sweet 🙂 The room is super clean, very nicely decorated, bedding, towels, furniture - everything is new and smells beautiful. Mattres super comfortable. We slept very good. Very nice clean and comfortable bathroom with hot water. But these meals... The most delicious food I have eaten so far in Sri Lanka. huge portions and the taste is amazing. I highly recommend coming and eating dinner if you are not even sleeping there - just go and ask if the owner can cook for you today. She did our laundry - everything smelled beautiful after washing and was super clean. At the very end she took us to the bus stop for free by tuk tuk. The area and the garden is very quiet and beautiful. During the night a elephant was walking next to the house ! It’s very close to Sigiriya mountain and all the small restaurants around. Perfect localisation. Very fast WiFi. She recommended us also her friend who took us for amazing trip to Pollonaruwa in very good price and Channa was amazing guide and super nice person. What a stay! We can’t thank Chandrika enough for her hospitality and kindness. Sanu was the perfect co host always checking up on us ☺️ Breakfast included has so many options and was so delicious! We also opted to have dinner with her for a small fee and it exceeded expectations! She recommended all the best things to do in the area and was happy to help book it for us. The room is nice and clean has a great shower and is everything you need. We could not recommend this stay enough it made our time in Sigiriya so special!

One of the best places I stayed on Sri Lanka. A lovely home stay near to the main attractions in Sigiriya. The room was clean with comfortable bed and hot water. The family was super nice to me and they helped me even organize my trips (thanks to them I paid less prices than usual for elephant riding). Breakfast and dinner were simply the best I have had during my whole stay on the island, large and rich (the true Sri Lanka experience). I had a perfect stay with this fantastic family. Chandrika and her two sons are excellent hosts, very welcoming, nice and caring. They helped me organize my time in Sigiriya and my transport, even giving me a Tuktuk ride to the bus stop. The house is in a quiet area, the room was very clean and comfortable, and what to say about the food…! The breakfast was very big and delicious, and the dinner was incredible (and gigantic!) Host is super kind and generous and always on hand to help. Room was very spacious and had an en suite bathroom with a hot shower, which was much appreciated. It felt like a home away from home. The area is so peaceful and you can hear lots of birds tweeting, which gives it a lovely atmosphere. The breakfast spread was delicious and generously portioned. Thank you for having us!

The room was very clean and comfortable with everything I needed. The host and her family helped me with plans in the day and had good honest recommendations. Breakfast was very yummy and so much food! Dinner was available for an extra 2000 and was very tasty. I felt very looked well looked after. Highly recommend.
