Sapu is the man. He is nice, friendly, efficient and ten other things more. Rooms are comfortable with a lot of eye for detail. Stunning views from the balcony as well. Great breakfast as well. . A special mentioning (and thanks) to Kavi, smiling and wonderful tuktuk driver (and neighbour). Go go.

Heads up for light sleepers: you sleep in an eco cottage where you hear a lot of nature sounds. So if you’re a light sleeper I would recommend earplugs

It is a distance up the mountain from the town but there are so many hotels in this vicinity - it takes you away from the noise of the town which is loud. Takes 10 min or less by tuktuk or driver - you can arrange a tuktuk with the cottage for small fee. Likewise the owner arranges for you to get up to the property on arrival by tuktuk with luggage - all in all made v easy for you

The owner was so friendly and made an excellent breakfast - varied each day. If you need any help, ideas or direction, he is there and always interested in you. The views were superb at the cottage! There were deer and squirrels at breakfast. Room was spacious with balcony and comfortable beds. Would recommend!

We loved the tranquility and the views of the mountains from our balcony. The room was very spacious, exceptionally well maintained and clean. We love walking to explore new areas and enjoyed the walk into Ella town. Sanu made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. He was extremely helpful mapping out the best way for us to walk to local attractions, and cooked up a delicious breakfast each morning. On the occasions when we needed transport, Carvy (Sanu’s neighbour) drove us around in his Tuk Tuk. Carvy was a great and safe driver and quickly put me at ease navigating some very steep hills. I would highly recommend him!! Thanks for your hospitality Sanu. This was one of the most memorable parts of our holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here

There aren’t enough positive adjectives to describe how much we loved staying at Saffron Eco Cottage! Sapumal is a hugely caring, knowledgeable and attentive host. He prepares a delicious breakfast for his guests every morning and we loved our conversations with him about Sri Lanka. His beautiful property is 10 minutes from the centre of Ella in a perfectly secluded, serene spot (there are deer, beautiful birds and a stunning view of the mountains). It was very easy to get a tuk tuk down to the town and further afield, special thanks to our lovely drivers Kawi and Ami who helped us a lot throughout our stay. It’s a perfect, tranquil place and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you Sapumal!

The bed is a little hard but that was generally the case in Sri Lanka.

The location of the property is incredible. They view from the bed is breathtaking. The room itself is super nice and well equipped. The owner of the place was super nice and helpful with tips and transport! Very special place

The track from the main road is rough to get to the property - but that's the price to be in the bush!

The environment away from the noise of the town was bliss - even saw a barking deer in the mornings!

We had a great stay at Saffron Eco Cottages. Sapu is a great host helping us to organise Tuk Tuk rides, providing advice on local sights and a transfer to our next destination. His cabins are clean and well organised with fantastic views of the valley below. The location is wonderfully calm and quiet. Great to be just outside of the hub bub of Ella but near enough for a nightly trip for dinner.

We loved the peaceful location, the beautiful room and the amazing views. Sapu was a wonderful host and arranged transport onwards for us. The neighbour provided a tuk tuk shuttle into town which was great value. The only thing I would change is to have some choice over the breakfast.

A really lovely, quiet spot to stay whilst visiting Ella. Comfy king beds. Great balcony to sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and view. Really good breakfast with made to order eggs. About a 20min walk to the main drag in Ella with all the restaurants etc.

Pure nature. Located outside of Ella’s busy center, Saffron Eco Cotage offers tranquility and peace. Bungalows are positioned right in the middle of the forest, overlooking the valley and the temple on the opposite hillside. Nice sunsets and birds ans squirrels jumping around enhance the nature feel. The owner and host, Sapu, will go above and beyond to make you feel happy. The breakfast is served in the small dining area and helps you meet the rest of the guests. Good value for your money. Definitely a nice place for relaxing after the long day of exploring Ella.

As this is an eco lodge, there wasn’t much sound proofing but this is to be expected

The host was very friendly and helpful with anything that we needed, he was always on hand. We were greeted with tea and biscuits and we were able to top up things like water easily. The location was good with pretty views from the room’s balcony. You need a Tuktuk down to Ella but we never had trouble getting one.

Sapu’s place is perfect. The only issue was the size of the breakfast. You won’t need much lunch.

Lovely location out of the busy Ella town. Up a hill - and a little awkward to figure out the arrival but all good as Sapu guided us in and his tuk tuk guy, Kabi, helped us out. Great quiet location - and a tuk tuk ride away from great walking and exploring. Do the railway walk from the Ella peak into town - it’s a classic.

It was Perfect!

Really lovely Place. The rooms were super clean and comfortable. It‘s absolutley quiet, so it‘s Perfect for relaxing and connecting nature. The Host is super nice and has Really good recommandations ( Restaurants, activities…) The breakfast is Really good but there‘s no lunch or Dinner which is totally fine - just nice to know.

I would definitely recommend Saffron Eco Cottage for anyone looking to have a peaceful mountain retreat in Ella. It is far enough out of town that you don’t have all the noise/craziness of downtown Ella, but a short tuk tuk ride if you wish to go into town to enjoy the food. The accommodations were so so lovely and clean and the porch view was incredible! I wish I could have stayed longer…Sapu was a very kind and helpful host and super responsive via WhatsApp when I needed help with anything. The tuk tuk driver he recommended was also very timely and helpful and charged very reasonable prices. I truly can’t recommend a stay at Saffron Eco Cottages enough!!

It was a bit far away from the city centre, but the neighbour is always willing to drive you there with his tuktuk for just 600rp (or also to another place if you ask).

Very cute cozy and quiet place with a wonderful view from ur balcony/bed over the hills. Only thee cottage’s which makes it feel peaceful.

The room was fabulous, peaceful, and was in the most beautiful setting. While the town was very busy and happening, we felt that we could getaway from it all when we were back at the Saffron Eco Cottage. Breakfast was tasty and homemade. Thoroughly enjoyed our host Sapu's hospitality and he was very helpful in organizing transport into town and back again.
