DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST IN THIS HOTEL!!! Whilst me and my husband stayed in this beautiful hotel with hard working, helpful staff, we decided to go down for the breakfast buffet (in a separate building) in the morning. We were informed the buffet was 2500 rupees per person. When we got there, there was no buffet available. We asked the waiter for a menu to see what was on offer he said he would get one. 2 minutes later he returned with a plate of freezing cold food. I asked why have you brought this food we just wanted to know what options there were for breakfast. He said he will get the menu. Again, 2 minutes later he returned with another plate of cold food that had clearly been sitting out for a long period of time. Whilst telling the staff that we did not order any food we just wanted to look at the menu, they started laughing in our faces. They called the chefs up who were also laughing in our faces when we were telling them we didn’t order any food. To our surprise, another 2 plates of cold food were brought to our table which made a total of 4. The group of approximately 6 (staff) started talking in Sinhala. They didn’t realise my husband understands the language and he could hear them talking about us as they thought we couldn’t understand them. Whilst they stood there laughing and talking about us myself and my husband walked to main reception. The receptionist was so helpful and really understanding. She was not aware that the buffet wasn’t prepared by the kitchen! There was no apology off the kitchen staff. They tried making out we didn’t ask for the menu and we wanted the food. The hotel staff are incredible and so helpful but the kitchen staff, I literally have no words for their shocking service and attitude to customers.

The property had beautiful rooms with great view. The hotel staff was amazing and couldn’t do enough.

Upon arriving, I had such a long day and wanted to have a nice cup of coffee, I was about to fill the kettle with water when I found a teabag and some old tea INSIDE the kettle which was so off putting. The bathroom hot water has mood swings - sometimes you have it, sometimes you don’t. The housekeeping staff make a lots of noise in the stairway so if your room is located there, it’s annoying. Lots of mould on the bathroom wall also

I booked single occupancy but was happy to see I was put in a triple room. The room is spacious but crowded. Luckily for me, I had abit of an ocean view. The pool was nice but just very awkwardly placed. It’s literally in front of the hotel at the reception driveway and people walking on the road or eating in the restaurant can watch you. The reception staff ladies were polite and accommodating. Balcony was lovely to enjoy morning coffee It’s literally right opposite the beach entrance and lovely cafes and souvenir shops. It’s close to almost everything especially coconut tree hill

The pool was amazing, very warm and clean. The hotel was in a great location and right by the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful with our bags/luggage. The restaurant food wasn’t the best and we had floor rooms which were quite exposed rather than tucked away. Id recommend a higher room.

There are monkeys that climb all over the floors, we lived on the 4th floor and saw them almost every day on our balcony. The administration didn't warn us about this, and for some reason there are no warning signs. It's quite dangerous because they are quite aggressive and go in groups of several, they can steal your things from your room or balcony if you don't close the door to the balcony. To have your room cleaned, you have to go to the reception and ask for it and be present during the cleaning. They clean very poorly, they just make it look like a good cleaning, you need to motivate them with money. They won't give you water after cleaning. Something is constantly poured into the pool from the roof. Large buses and cars are constantly parked on the hotel grounds, I don't understand why, it creates a not very nice view of the pool. Very often the power went out, but not for long

Very convenient location of the hotel, right next to the beach with a beautiful view of the ocean. Very large and spacious room, has everything you need, a large refrigerator, safe, kettle and more. Very large and beautiful terrace. Elevator in the hotel. Friendly administration staff. I also liked that there are towels for the beach and pool. This is a rarity for Sri Lanka. Nice, clean pool and good restaurant. Very convenient that the room has a fan and air conditioning, it's cool. Very large bed. Our room had the best ocean view. I recommend staying in Merissa. But there are some nuances...

Excellent location, directly across from a public beach access. Large rooms and an outdoor pool made the stay very comfortable. Many beachfront bars/restaurants with lounge chairs and umbrellas. Beach itself was excellent and we were able to walk to a very nice restaurant for dinner.

Can be noisy as it is right opposite the beach and some of the beach bars have loud music late into the night. Also on the main road.

The water was cold in the shower.

We stayed in a sea view room on 4th (top) floor. The room was large and clean and it had a large fridge. The balcony was nice and gave views of the pool and the beach. Also very close to beach and all the beach bars etc

The Hotel is just across from the beach good views from our room. Breakfast was good. Close to restaurants on the beach and easy walking to shops and more restaurants, supermarket and atms.

The location is great but the pool is next to the car park.

Lovely, clean and conveniently located. I didn’t eat in the restaurant however the evening food did look good. Breakfast was fine, same as most similar hotels across Sri Lanka. Staff were very approachable and always happy to help with requests (booking taxis to airport etc).

Absolutely full of insects and I've travelled to more rural areas in sri lanka and it wasn't this bad. Also the lift didn't work for the entire stay! 😕 it was a little disappointing overall.
