NetherlandsRooms are not well maintained. In the night it is very difficult to move around with less lights and so many stone stairs. If by mistake you fall can cause fatal injuries.
Location was spot on!! Next to the river and best view of elephants. Staff was very kind in guiding us through on many things. Good at the restaurant is delicious and tasty.

This place is breathtaking it’s amazing to have the gentle giants literally at your fingertips. The staff here were some of the best we encountered on this trip to Sri Lanka. The food was amazing, we had a great time.

United Kingdomthe male elephants were chained ‘as they can be aggressive’ some of the elephants keeper clearly don’t like their job as they were so easily agitated by the elephants. Was the only thing we saw we didn’t like. Females ran free though
Upon arrival was welcomed with free drinks and the staff even kindly took our bags to our room, the hotel was beautiful, well situated, good selection of food on menu. Western and local. Room was clean and comfy. With freebies. Shower was hot and fresh towels everywhere. Great aircon. Pool was warm and refreshing with a spectacular view.

The hotel is located directly at the river front. In the morning, 08.30, the first group of elephants is brought there. Later on, more elephants arrived, at the peak there were about 35 elephants bathing in the river. Against our observations, the elephants are treated in a sound manner,while it is more a kind of zoo situation. As a hotel guest, you have the first spot. The hotel is fine. Good selection for breakfast. Simple room, yer sound, as most people would only stay one night.

Lovely hotel, Staff couldn’t do enough for you and breakfast was spot on. Right on the waters edge so you can see the elephants bathing from the restaurant or from the pool. Not much else around the hotel we ate out which wasn’t great…..the food at the hotel looked good wish we had ate there.

AustraliaConstantly being asked for the upsell - touch an elephant, feed an elephant, climb on an elephant, asking for money for it. The fact that the elephants from the Orphanage over the road have been so commodified. We came here 6 years ago and just seeing them was good. Didn't like that the place is actually both hotels divided by the elephant river road and the new and old are strangely connected with many different levels and steps. River view room but verandah it looks through is taken over by other tourists, elephant handlers and staff 2 times a day for 4 hours total
Elephants. Room size (Room 302) and bathroom good with particularly good hot and cold shower. Only 1 of 3 rooms in this side of the hotel which is mostly a large Function Room and cafe. Room 301 was the same, but Room 304 looked much smaller. We all looked onto the shared verandah (303 is a storage cupboard), which they set up a desk to take payments from anyone who wished to use it to see the elephants in the river! Pool area, bar and restaurant was very nice with good ambience and excellent food.
