Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt felt expensive for a 3 star hotel but the location is wonderdul and it is a quiet restful place. We have not tried anywhere else on the east coast so cannot compare quality and price. There are not really any other places to eat nearby unless you have a driver or go in a tuktuk, so a little stuck in the hotel.
We stayed for 8 nights and had a chance to really relax by the pool and in the sea. The beach was beautiful with pigeon island opposite, it felt like paradise! Easy access to pigeon island for snorkeling but it is expensive with the government marine park charge ($50 per adult) which is fine to help conserve the area but unfortunately it was very busy and the coral has suffered. But we did see turtle and reef sharks and lots and lots of fish. The dive centre next to the hotel (Dive for you) did snorkeling guiding which was great (we don't dive!). The a la carte food was excellent, the buffet good to but not as good value. The rooms comfy and clean. They look after the grounds well too so no mossies.

United KingdomDirty fridge seal.
Great location, delux double right on beach at ground floor level with outdoor seating and coffee table, plus two loungers. Soft sandy beach swept each morning, boats to pigeoon island and diving opportunities located here. Not sure what was delux about the room, furnishings quite basic, limited range of TV channels and the fridge could have been cleaner. One umbrella provided for open air walk to restaurant and pool side bar, this proved essential in torrential rain that hit at dinner time, all be it two really required. Lovely well maintained swimming pool. plenty of shade under the trees that surround the property. Beach nice and private, no hawkers. Enormous breakfast. Food in beachside bar/ restaurant very good. Good location for visiting Trincomalee just a few KM away, but great for a relaxing beach holiday.

United KingdomBe aware it is at a remote location. So dont expect to go for a stroll from the compound into a local city/village. Not a negative, just be aware.
Great spacious area with good quality bungalows. Beach is amazing with nice fine sand. Whole area (including the beach) is constantly swept to keep it clean. Breakfast is decent. Pool is lovely as well next to the bar area.

AustraliaA la carte dining is only available in the beachside cafe which was very pleasant but the menu is quite limited especially for people with dietary restrictions. My wife is coeliac and there were only a couple of items she could eat. We would have loved to have had massages but didn’t because the spa is 2km away and they send you there in a tuk tuk.
We were upgraded to a deluxe room which was very comfortable and had a lovely view over the pool. The room was large with a comfortable bed and plenty of storage space. The pool is large enough for lap swimming and is surrounded by shade trees which is great for relaxing around the pool. This is the quieter end of Nilaveli and the beach was not crowded. The water was crystal clear and very calm at this time of the year. The food at the restaurant and the pool bar was excellent and reasonably priced. Our only regret is that we weren’t staying longer.

Brunei DarussalamOur experience of the food was either average, or on some occasions not too good. The deviled chicken I had for lunch was so over- cooked that it was really hard, and yet all the onions and veg were completely raw. I also had checked to ask if it was boneless, and told it was, but it had bits of small bone in which made it difficult to eat. My husband had deviled fish-the fish was nice, but again the veg were raw. My husband didn’t have a good experience dealing with the gentleman taking room service orders- he was abrupt to the point of rudeness, and also hung up while my husband was trying to continue the order. (This happened twice). We had the evening buffet once and there were plenty of tasty options. Unfortunately due to our early starts we couldn’t experience the breakfast buffet so ordered a takeaway breakfast. For this the fruit they included was very nice, as was the banana bread, however the sandwiches had very little filling and the bread was dry. A few more sun loungers for the beach would be great…we didn’t manage to secure one during our stay as they were always 100% in use.
The hotel grounds are beautiful and really well maintained. The pool is large and has a ice family atmosphere. The location on the beach is to die for - we had a room with a view of the sea which was great. The rooms are simple but pleasant. Almost all of the staff were friendly and courteous- particularly the pool attendant, and the porter who helped us with our bags.

LatviaDefinitely did not like the towels. Worn out, hard and in short supply. Two towels are not enough for 2 people. The quality of towels at the pool is similar. There was no hairdryer. To avoid unpleasant surprises, I recommend everyone to check the price, because the information posted on Booking.com is inaccurate. In short, 5-star price and 4-star service.
Great beach, delicious food, friendly staff. Fantastic beach! Soft sand, clean, you can safely swim in the ocean. Enjoy the beauty of the sunrise. Great place if you like snorkeling.

AustraliaWhile it was good being in a quiet part of the beach, it was not easy to get to other restaurants for cheaper food options, at least 15 minutes by car. The hotel restaurant was very expensive compared to the normal prices paid in Sri Lanka. No wifi in the rooms and it was not very good even in the area you could use it. You can only walk to the left of the hotel along the beach as it is near a military area.
The resort is in a very quite location. The beach was very clean and lovely to swim in, as well as a pool if you do not like the sea. Getting to snorkelling spots was very easy and quick by boat. There were so many options for breakfast and the staff were very attentive.

Germany- We found the bungalow rooms overpriced and too expensive for what you get: bathrooms are quite old (not what you would expect for that price), no toiletries besides normal soap, no proper double bed (two single beds put together), no TV. At the least the overall service increased the value for money. - The prices in the restaurant are too high as well. We rented a scooter for 3 days and had lunch or dinner outside, that was in total much cheaper. - The breakfast time should be extended to 10:30 AM.
+ Great breakfast buffet with Western and Sri Lankan options + Direct access to the beach + Cushions for deckchairs and pool towels were provided for no additional costs + We had the opportunity to stay at the pool after check-out and use the public shower facilities + The rooms were cleaned even twice a day; towels were changed every day

Really nice hotel. Rooms, food and staff all really good. Meeting room facilities also good. If we are in the area again, there aren’t lots of hotels with workshop facilities around and this one is well-established and long-standing. Definitely would stay again.

United KingdomThe rooms are some of the worst we have stayed in in Sri Lanka. We were so disappointed. We paid for a room with a view of the sea and to say there is a view of the sea is tenuous at best. The beds are terrible. Very hard mattresses. The aircon and fridges are very old and out of date. Bathrooms all need re doing. The staff are also not that pleasant. This was the last stop on our Sri Lanka trip and compared to every other hotel the staff where unsmiling and not nearly as warm and helpful as every other place we stayed in. They didn’t see to care if things were ok or not!
The communal areas are beautifully done. The landscaped gardens, the pool , the beach and the entrance to the property.

SpainThe rooms were a little dated. However, they were clean and well maintained. The only thing we would liked to have improved is the Wifi. It is only available in certain areas, and drops out regularly. Generally speaking, in a quiet beach resort, limited wifi could have been quite nice. (Particularly if the hotel had explained the reason for it - possibly due to the remote location of the hotel?). Unfortunately, my partner and I both had significant work issues which arose whilst we were there and the general guest wifi was no where near good enough to deal with this. However, the staff quickly invited us to work in the main office where the wifi was good - good enough to do a global Teams call.
Excellent dinner buffet - terrific range of food which varied each day and was beautifully cooked. Breakfast buffet also very good. The hotel will arrange a candle lit beach dinner if you request it too. The location on the beach was beautiful - very quiet, clean beach with a hotel boat service to Pigeon Island and a Dive School operating from the hotel. The service from the staff and overall management of the hotel was superb.
