It isn’t worth naming the negatives. Because that’s not what this place is about.

This is a very very special place. Do not assume this is a luxury hotel. A lot is missing for what many people expect. HOWEVER if you like to experience and see Sri Lanka in its absolutely glorious untouched and natural state then this is possibly the only place you should visit. Despite giving it a very average score for facilities and luxuries the staff, the experience and the location make up for it in spades. Come here before Sri Lanka is subjected to the mass tourism that’s in the pipeline. The food is also authentic, plentiful and extremely tasty.

In my view, this is the top eco-friendly resort in Sri Lanka. They prepare delicious meals using fresh, organic vegetables straight from their garden, which truly enhances the sustainable experience. The only minor drawback I noticed is that they could use a few more staff members to make operations even smoother. Despite that, it’s a fantastic place that perfectly blends nature and hospitality. Highly recommend!

    None.

I visited Mandaram Eco Resort in December, and it was a truly unique experience. The resort provides parking 5 km away, and the journey from there is both interesting and adventurous. The road is narrow and bumpy, but the stunning views along the way make it absolutely worth it. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm welcome and treated to a delicious cup of cardamom tea made from their own garden. One of the highlights of the property is Kabaragala Waterfall, located just 200 meters away within their land – it’s breathtaking! The staff were incredibly friendly and honest, making the stay even more enjoyable. They serve mainly local varieties of food, which adds to the authentic and sustainable vibe of the resort. I highly recommend this place for anyone seeking a serene and eco-friendly getaway.

Highly appreciate the incredible work they do to preserve nature while offering such a serene and luxurious experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Nothing. It was a unique and exciting experience, requiring you to take the tough with the smooth. Not luxury by any means, and the value lies in the location, natural beauty and people running it.

If you like different, exciting places off the beaten track then this is the place for you. Amazing scenery, wildlife and rural communities surrounding an old cardamom plantation and gardens set into the cloud forest on the highest peak in Sri Lanka. It's a long, winding drive along a rough ancient track in a 4-wheel drive to get there. Wonderful nature, tranquility and panoramic views await. The price you pay isn't for luxury, and the accommodation is a bit worn around the edges, and the interesting hydro-electric power system is a bit on and off. Rather, the price you pay reflects the challenges of running such a place in a remote location, unique overall experience and the wonderful care and hospitality of the team that run it. The breakfast and dinners provided were great - no need for lunch! Note that even though the map shows this place to be close to Nuwara Eliya it is 2-3 hours trip to get there - requiring some planning to get to the pick-up point by car for transfer to 4-wheel drive up steep and bumpy track (1 hour). Also be aware of the weather as it can be cloudy, wet and foggy out of season - I understand March / April and November / December are the best times to go. We went in early February and got one day rain and cloud, 1 day full sun. This was the most memorable and exciting part of out 2 week trip to Sri Lanka.

The access is very bad. Even though it’s an eco resort, to avoid pollution and save the natural resources out there, there could be better access with proper roads leading to the resort

    Excellent views, brilliant location

Unfortunately the place was not clean. Which made us feel a bit uncomfortable. They also forgot to put pillow cases on our pillows and provide us with water bottles. For the price we payed this was not satisfying!

Even though the road to the resort is a bit scary and bumpy sometimes, the scenery during driving and at the resort was absolutely marvelous! We had a very nice welcome and absolutely loved the view from our cabin.
