Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumHad a wonderful trip at Maapagala resort. It is centrally located but tucked away so it is nice and peaceful. The rooms are clean, bed is comfy, and amenities overall good. The real star was Ravi, the manager, who was very kind and hospitable and helped us with many arrangements as well as just nice conversation. Rating 8 and not 10 because a few small changes are needed (more furniture in the room, for example)

Brand new property, generous room size, good breakfast, very helpful staff. Property is away from the noisy road, but still walking distance from the restaurants etc. It’s also walking distance from the exit of the Sigiriya complex.

The owner is super friendly and provided a huge and delicious Sri Lankan breakfast each morning. He cooked us a great chicken kottu too. The location - within a forest - was cool and the pool was great for a cool off dip. It was very relaxing to be surrounded by nature.

LithuaniaNot that I didn’t like it , but after sun down you can’t go by foot from the main road to the hotel because of the wild elephants so you need tuk tuk
Lovely place of the main road, quiet and surrounded by nature. Big rooms with big bathrooms. Comfy bed. Nice pool. The staff was amazing , so caring and friendly, we had food poisoning and they got us local medicine that really helped and also arranged a driver to get us to Trincomalee cause we were in no condition to travel by bus or train . Very grateful to the staff.

United KingdomLocation was excellent, close to Sigiryia rock and village but off the main road so very quiet. The staff went out of their way to help us giving us torches to walk back in the evening and offering to pick us up from the main road too (there are elephants in the area). The setting of the resort is lovely, it backs onto a paddy field and some fast flowing water. The swimming pool was most welcome after a hot day and the rooms were kept cool with A/C. The breakfast was very tasty. We booked three rooms for two nights and there was no one in the fourth room so we had the place to ourselves. Overall, an excellent experience, thank you!

SpainI booked one night only but I decided to stay one night more as I felt immediately welcomed in the resort! The family who runs this new business is very keen to making it work and everything was smooth: they give you a welcome drink, well prepared towels and flowers in the room and they refuel you with a very large breakfast! Water and teas always available! The swimming pool makes a difference in the 34 degrees of Sigiryia after climbing for hours! The resort is 5 minutes walking distance from the main road so during the day is fine but in the night you have to consider a Tuk Tuk as it in the middle of the jungle and there may be wild animals you want to avoid! The resort provides drop off and pick up to the main road until 10pm! They also organise safaris in the evening or sunrise! Special thanks to Rajapaksa: next time I’ll come back again to try your egg hopper 🙃

United KingdomThere was no fridge in the room so I couldn't keep my drinks cold. I also didn't like there wasn't a clear window to see through, but apart from a field behind, there's not much of a view. Also the wildlife as you would expect are rather noisy at night and so are some dogs. Also I had 2 options for double or triple room but when I went to book only triple was available. Yet only 2 out of the 4 rooms were full.
The room was clean and very spacious, large bathroom too. Air-conditioning and fan. I loved the pool, it was nice to relax after the climb at Lion Rock. The owner was very accommodating and kindly dropped me to the ticket office on the morning of my climb! It was a 5 minute walk down a mostly dark path at night, my light on phone helped. Felt completely safe, but beware there is a wild elephant roaming but I didn't meet it during my stay! There is an option to ride an elephant close by, if you so wish. Sri Lankan Breakfast was lovely and good choices. It's a new resort, opened in January. I wasn't sure about dinner options but I walked 8 mins to the main road, to the left and on another recommendation on here went to Pradeeps Restaurant where I had a huge wonderful Sri Lankan curry. Service was so good I went back for more the next night. There's also a spa down the road from Pradeep, Spaserendib. Great massage! It's a great base to be near Lion Rock and a few restaurants nearby.

United KingdomNeed more sun beds round the pool
The location is perfect for climbing Sigiria rock-about twenty minutes walk away. It is a new hotel, and though there are things to improve (extra sun beds round the pool, for example, which have been promised), all in all this is a great place to stay. Plus they are constantly asking for suggestions to improve, so that is great.
