Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumNothing. Absolutely nothing.
Looks can deceive. On the outside this looks like a regular home. On the inside is home. This place provides EVERYTHING. We felt so welcome. The workers were awesome. But the woman who owns this place owns town. She sat down with us, askes wo we were, what our plans were, gave tips and suggestions but not in a pushy way. We had the pleasure her granddaughter (and daughter) was just visiting her which was very heartwarming to see. And. This is exactly like visiting Grandma.

BelgiumWe loved our stay at Madugalle's family guest Inn. We were welcomed very warmly in the beautiful house with a cup of tea and a chat with the Lady of the house, who was extremely kind and very helpful. We could listen in on one of the granddaughter's classical sri lankan singing lessons and enjoyed a lovely breakfast. This house made us feel very welcome in Kandy!

Kandy Inn Madugalle's family guest house is in the City Center of Kandy. Behind a inconspicuous small door on a big street you can find a small, quiet, Green oasis with a lot of plants. The owners are a really warm, lovely couple and made us feel comfortable. We got some tea, when arriving. Also a little cat is Living at their guesthouse which is really cute. The rooms are simpel, but clean. The location was great so that we could walk to tooth temple and local market. We only stayed one night but enjoyed Our stay! Thank you very much!

United KingdomSome reviews mention the road and rail noise. You are right in the middle of a busy city and, yes, this can be noisy but, after 10pm at night, this quietened down and we slept well.
Excellent location - within walking distance of the lake, temple and cultural centre. Kumari and all the staff were friendly, helpful and informative. This feels like a very authentic Sri Lankan home and is a haven from the hustle and bustle right outside the front door.

We had a pleasant and peaceful time at this homestay. The lady of the house is an exquisite and kind person, lavishing lots of useful advice while always being polite and courteous. Definitely the best experience we have ever had at a homestay, and we have seen many! Suggested for those who want to have the experience full of charm and authenticity of an old house right in the center of Kandy

LithuaniaThis guest house was such a cozy and authentic place! Beautifully, very authentically decorated, super clean, white linen, hot water in the shower - I couldnt expect more for my one night stay. It is in a very good place also - absolutely central, no climbing included, just a very short walk straight to the lake, temple, and cafes (Java lounge has a superb cooffee!). Also, I was absolutely impressed by the owner lady - such a beautiful, warm, aristocratic-like woman, offering me tea on arrival (its a real shame I didnt have time for it!). She spoke just perfect English and spread this amazing energy ❤️ All the best for you all!

HungaryUnfortunately, the floor was quite dirty, and the lack of air conditioning could be a bit uncomfortable on warmer nights.

GermanyThe rooms can be a bit loud as you can hear traffic and other guests if the windows are open.
The homestay is in an ancestral family home in the Kandy city center. Major attractions such as Kandy Lake, the Tooth Temple, and the Kandy dancing show are within 15-20 minutes walking distance. There are several amenities including grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries, and ATMs within a 5-minute walk. Our host was extremely kind and provided us with delicious Sri Lankan style home cooked breakfast and dinner on request. The room was basic but had everything we needed.

FranceIt's a charming old house with relatively basic, but clean and comfortable accommodation. Madam is a welcoming host who sat with us and chatted over breakfast. None of the positive reviews mention the train line behind the house and indeed, on our first morning I was woken at 5am by a train going past (6am the next morning). I can't say it bothered me and it didn't wake my wife. Some negative reviews say there are better value places for the same price. I can assure you that's not our experience in Kandy. Believe the positive reviews and add the morning train and you'll have a good idea of the place.
