How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe had the best time with Nimeshika, and her family ! They took the time to help us find the best places to eat, see and do ! We really felt like we were a part of the family and it was amazing ! The rooms were great and all that goes with it !The hostel is in the center of Sigiraya, you can walk really easily to see the lion rock and Tuktuk are always nearby. The buses are also a great way to go around ! It was the best choice for our 7 days in Sigiraya. Thanks for that amazing experience!

Verified reviewI had a horrible and unsafe experience at this hostel. I woke up in the middle of the night to find a thief inside my room. They managed to steal several of my belongings, including cash that was inside a locked locker. Somehow, they got it open. What’s worse is that the hostel owners took no responsibility at all. They did not offer any financial help, showed no concern for my safety, and didn’t even try to investigate how someone could break into a locked room and locker. I no longer felt safe staying here and would absolutely not recommend this hostel to anyone, especially solo travelers. There is zero security and the management clearly does not care.
what kind of person are you? you first told us that your money was stolen now you say that your belongings were stolen.why didn't you tell us that story then.you say we didn't help you.then who took you to the police? didn't the police came out hostel and check?why are you laying?we have the letter you are saying at the police station.the police also said that if you locked your dormitory how could a theft have happened without breaking it?I think is a lie of yours.why did you sleep without locking the door and windows of our room.why are we paying for your money?we don't know if you are telling the truth or lying or how much was lost .you have to take care of your money and your belongings yourself.we can't to do that. your signed at the police station and said that no further investigation was needed, right?so why are you now telling us to give you your money?we still can't imagine whether such as a theft will happen or not.dont you put my dorm room through it's final inspection

Verified reviewI'm absolutely smitten with this hostel! It's run by an adorable family who makes you feel right at home. The stay is super comfortable and cozy, with spotless washrooms and large beds that are perfect for a good night's sleep. I stayed for a week and loved every minute of it! What really sets this place apart is the warm hospitality. If you're traveling solo, you won't feel alone - the whole family showers you with love and care, making you feel like part of the family. And if you're looking to learn some authentic Sri Lankan cooking, Nimeshikha's classes are a must! She's an amazing teacher, whipping up delicious dishes with love, patience, and a smile. Plus, she's super kind and generous - she even offered food to those in need! I also loved that I could practice yoga comfortably on the premises - there's plenty of space to sit, relax, and even unwind in a hammock. If you're looking for a place that feels like home, look no further. The family is super helpful, and you'll leave feeling like you've made some wonderful friends. I'm already missing them and can't wait to go back!

Verified reviewNimeshikha is a wonderful, kind host. Staying in this hostel feels like a genuine cultural experience as you feel part of the family and the two little children are always running around and wanting to interact with you. Nimeshikha serves a delicious breakfast every day and she has her restaurant on site if you wish to eat lunch or dinner! My top tip: don't book any tours on Getyourguide as Nimeshikha's husband can arrange everything at a cheaper price! I arrived in Sigiriya with no plan, but the two hosts were able to advise me and help me organise everything. I extended my stay by two more nights and had three beautiful days exploring Sigiriya and nearby sites. A big thank you to Nimeshikha and Nuwan!

Verified reviewI had a great stay with this lovely and open young family. They even help you with organizing your trips around town and to local sights! The place situated really central close to the main road and the restaurants ect there. The room was good and the other people were friendly. At the restaurant they prepared fresh food for us. Please note that it's a females only dorm and for the moment it's the only room - altough they are working on making another dorm.

Verified reviewWhat I Loved: Nuwan, the owner, is an incredibly friendly host. He didn’t just welcome us, he took care of us – literally driving us around, showing us all the best spots in Sigiriya, and recommending hidden gems we would’ve never found ourselves (including a stunning sunset spot!). He’s well connected with all the local tourist activities and goes out of his way to arrange everything smoothly for his guests. His wife is equally lovely and cooked us authentic Sri Lankan meals. Don’t expect fancy restaurant-style food..it’s wholesome, traditional, and adds to the warm, family-style experience. Their constant smiles, and genuine hospitality made us feel completely at home. And yes, their two kids are absolutely adorable! Location: The location is perfect – tucked away in a quiet, secluded area, very close to all the major attractions in Sigiriya. There are also 3-4 other guesthouses within walking distance where you can go for lunch or dinner. At night, the sky is filled with stars – peaceful and magical. *PRO TIP: Definitely go for a walk at night! We thought we saw a shooting star, but it turned out to be a firefly – the tree at the entrance lights up with fireflies at night. Pure magic! ✨ Stay: The guest house has one big shared room with four single beds, each with mosquito nets. There's a long common bathroom – simple and clean. It’s nothing fancy, and you’ll need to bring your own toiletries (though Nuwan will happily help you out if you forget something). We were two friends and shared the room with a solo traveler. we had great conversations and made a new friend. It’s a lovely place for solo travelers to meet people and share stories! Overall, it’s a budget-friendly, clean, and homely place where the hosts’ hospitality makes any small flaws feel irrelevant We left with full hearts and unforgettable memories. Highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Sigiriya!
While the stay was overall lovely, there are a few things to keep in mind. The place is very simple and basic—just one large shared room with four beds and a long common bathroom, so don’t expect luxury or privacy. You’ll need to bring your own toiletries. The meals are homemade and authentic, which adds to the experience, but they’re quite simple—so if you're expecting restaurant-style or richly flavored food, you might be a little underwhelmed. That said, the warmth of the hosts more than makes up for these small things.

Verified reviewFrom the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. This charming hostel is run by the kindest couple you can imagine. The mother prepares delicious meals in her cozy restaurant, and the father took us on one of the most beautiful tours we’ve ever done – full of stunning views and authentic local experiences. Everything here is filled with heart and soul. Their warmth and genuine hospitality turned our stay into something truly special. It’s rare to find such a welcoming, family-like atmosphere. If you’re looking for a place with personality, comfort, and unforgettable people – this is it. Highly recommended from the bottom of my heart!

Verified reviewWhen I arrived I was welcomed by the family (with 2 kids) with some nice tea. Afterwards the husband propsed to do a free scooter tour and we’ve passed some beautiful sights, including the secret lake where you had a view on both the Pidugala rock and the Lion rock. They also were helpful for tuktuk drives (paid) at any arranged hour. In the room I was the only one so I could choose a bed. The bed was comfortable and had a musquito net. There was also 1 fan in the room and the bathroom was specious en clean. In the morning I also got served some delicous breakfast. Would really recommend this place because of the location, value for money, delicious food and the hospitality of the family.

Verified reviewBest Hostel in Sigiriya! I had the best stay at this hostel, the owners were so friendly and kind, it felt like being part of the family. Also the host helped with an incident and took me to the tourist police which was very kind. Also the two kids of them are so cute, especially little Mihel. I will never forget this place and keep this time in my memory forever. 10000000% recommendation 🥰

Verified reviewAbsolutely adore this hostel and the hosts. They were the sweetest couple, who were always around to help you, give tips and also make you delicious food. I did a cooking class with them for 3000, which was incredible and so much cheaper than any other places and gave you a more authentic experience. I 100% recommend doing this is you are staying. They have a small restaurant where you can chill at and also a hammock. There was only one room, a four female dorm. It did get a little hot at times as there was only one fan for the room to share. It was clean and had a large bathroom. The location is perfect, just off the main street with some restaurants and mini stores around, but also a short walk to even more restaurants and it is fine walking to lion rock and pidurangala rock. If I came back I would definitely come back to stay and will recommend to all my friends that I know will be coming this way. Thank you for 💚

Verified reviewI really liked this cute little hostel. Very chilled vibes and friendly hosts. The location is amazing as it's close to the rocks and another lake. The beds were quite big and a mosquito net was there as well.
The door of the bathroom is broken, so you can't close it and also the fan didn't really work. But it was still cold enough as we left the windows open during the night.
