How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Nothing, everything was top level.
What did I like? Absolutely everything, I spent about 3 nights here and I was depressed about leaving, this place was the second nicest place I stayed at in sri lanka, it was clean and comfortable and the staff was very nice, I made alot of friends here. I feel like if you are staying in mirissa JJ hostel is part of the experience. highly recommended

No acitivities during off-season but not a big minus. Just fyi.

When we arrived we were welcomed by a very kind host. The place is pretty and room spacious and pretty clean. We had breakfast here and we were not disappointed. A big plus is the position of the hostel, it is close to both the beach and the main road where supermarkets, restaurants and bus stops are

The open kitchen is a bit ran down. Could be upgraded with just a few steps. Bathroom had some mold.
We loved to stay in JJs. The staff there was super friendly, they took care a lot of any community area within the hostel. Pool and rooms were clean and it was a pleasure to stay there.

I stayed at JJ's Hostel Mirissa for one night and really enjoyed my time there. I was in the dorm room, which was spacious and had the most comfortable bed I’ve experienced during my entire 9-day trip. Although the location is a bit away from the beach and main attractions, everything else was perfect. The hostel is clean, roomy, and a great place to meet and connect with other travelers.

I can’t fault this place. The staff are really really nice and super helpful. The rooms are comfortable and it’s very clean. It’s definitely got everything right for travellers. A lot of places could learn a lot from JJ’s on how to do things right. I’d highly recommend here and would definitely stay again.

Our roommates had people over at 4am and were loud and very rude when asked politely to keep the noise/light level down

You feel like in a luxurious resort and not a hostel. Its incredibly clean, they clean the dorms everyday and it smells amazing, they also change bed linen and towels every second day. The dorms a big with spacious locker for your bag, the bed is super comfy and has power sockets, little table and a lamp. The pool is clean and almost always in a shade so you can chill there. The property is massive and feels so relaxing. They do daily yoga and also have a WhatsApp group where they organise daily activities. You can have cheap breakfast and drinks there. You can also pay by card

One of the best hostels I have stayed. It’s super relaxed but also a lot of activities if you are into meeting people. The dorms have a lot of space and the beds are comfortable.

We liked to get out to the beach early due to the heat so found breakfast to start a little late for us, meaning we often skipped it - but that’s our personal preference!
Brilliant location just off the main road and a couple of minutes walk to the beach! Also walkable to secret beach (the best beach in the area!!). We stayed in a private room, and with the beautiful pool area it felt more like a hotel to us, which suited us perfectly!!

No plugs next to the mirrors in the bathroom! Very annoying for those that want to use hairdryers etc. I ended up having to go downstairs to one of the toilets there and using an extension cord. I think this is an oversight that is important to lots of travellers.
Such a great hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there are loads of facilities available. The rooms are super super comfortable and it was very clean.

Not very social and quite a big place so doesn't feel like there's a community, but they are trying by organising activities on a WhatsApp group.
Great AC in the dorms and nice to have a kitchen for once. Full bag lockers, privacy curtains, plugs for every bed. The pool and plenty of outdoor space is a bonus.

The hostel is so big it was hard to get chatting to people as there are multiple areas for people to sit.
JJs hostel was lovely. I stayed in the dorm and in a private room and both were great. The socials organised were lovely to meet people too.

Everything was first rate. Impeccably clean, staff were very friendly and attentive. Great choice of breakfast. Lovely pool. Quiet location but short walk to shops, bars and beach. Can’t fault it.

Really nice Hostel in the middle of mirissa. All beaches, important places and Restaurants + Supermarket in walking distance. Super friendly host. The place itself is big, huge shared rooftop tarrasse, small private tarasse and nice garden with really clean and comfortable Pool. Breakfast was good, you could choose from many different options from Omelette with cheese and mushrooms to french toast. Room was pretty roomy, a/c worked perfectly. Bathroom among the best we have seen in Sri Lanka. Toilet dont get wet!. The shared kitchen was quite dirty, but we did not use it often. All other areas really nice and clean. We saw the staff clean most parts of the Hostel daily. When we checked out, we could store our stuff in an extra room and use the pool till we departed. Most importantly: they have 5 cats! Not only do they house them, but they are also cared for and fed daily with Approbriate food. The WhatsApp Group is a nice Touch and very helpful for solo travelers to get to know New people. It was a very nice stay, we would come again (they sent us a message that we would get a discount ;))
