Very beautiful house near downtown but quiet with a nice garden. Very clean and comfortable. So friendly and helpful host. Made tea and laundry without charge. Great, very big breakfast with so many different food and fruit, it was just perfect.. The place is perfekt to visit the area, like knuckles mountains or Godapola Teafactory, that is very special.

There are 2 steps at the entrance; a removable ramp should be available for those who need it.

The old house is cute, and the bedroom is clean and comfortable. Breakfast is local style, but healthy and yummy. The staff is nice and helpful. I stayed at Irene's home for 2 nights. As a wheelchair user, I request that the staff provide a wooden ramp. Amazing, the wooden ramp is ready at the stairs just an hour later.

I loved the old style of the house with its inner courtyards, and large verandah. Our hosts were very welcoming and attentive and generous with snacks etc. We enjoyed the bird life in the garden.

Irene’s Home is an absolute gem! A gorgeous Walauwwa/heritage house nestled in the heart of Matale, with mountains as a backdrop. We were there for just an overnight stay, and I loved every moment. A beautifully maintained property, with a charming couple as caretakers - that lady can cook! We had a typical Sri Lankan breakfast, and her dhal curry was a visual feast - and the flavours matched the visual expectations. I would definitely revisit, if I’m ever back in Matale! I recently stayed at Irene's Home for one night and overall had a decent experience. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. We were offered many breakfast options. The food was also very good. The central location and reasonable pricing make it a good option for short stays in the area.

We have booked this place for our first night in Sri Lanka. The owner met us on arrival. As it was everything new to us, we had a good few questions and owner couldn't be more than helpful. He advised us on the places we can visit, where to exchange money etc. Communications been very clear. The house is located within working distance to the very busy town, but in the very quiet area, so we had a very good sleep 😁 If you are looking to visit Matale and looking to stay near by highly recommend to stay at this property 👍 This was a first time we saw the monkeys 🤣🤣

We recently visited Matale, and discovered a little gem in the heart of the town to stay. Irene's Home is a beautiful "walauwwa"/ colonial type house with antique furniture, surrounded by a well kept lawn and beautiful greenery. The place was impeccably clean. It was like staying at one's very own grandma's place. They provided a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast; there were options to choose from. The place was serene and quiet. The staff were respectful, considerate and were more than happy to accommodate polite requests. It was a pleasant stay, and we intend to visit again. A very 'Sri Lankan' experience. It is a nice old house more than 100 years old. The rich cultural values well preserved. The care taker is doing a great job to maintain it. You can get an idea about architectural heritage.

Everything was perfect. There is plenty of parking space. The owner is very clear with the prices and directions. If something was discussed before the visit, it won't change. The caretaking staff was very professional and helpful. Their breakfast was amazing, and there were several curries. The building and the garden are kept very clean. The beds were comfortable, and the washrooms were very clean. The location itself is calm and serene. Highly recommended. There's enough room for 14 people at once.
