Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaNot that anything can be done about it, but people should keep in mind that it takes about 45 minutes from the Nuwara Eliya town to reach the property. Though the access is very easy - it is on the highway to Kandy with just a two minutes incline to drive into the property, but be ready for the drive when you commute to the city. We found it fun and pleasant, with gorgeous tea estate views and hills on the way. It gets very misty/clouded in the morning and evening, so ideally, drive after sunrise and before sunset. Though our driver managed to drive through the fog and clouds at night, I think it's safer to drive early. Now, a wish list of what could be better. 1. Some small insects keep coming into the bathroom as it's monsoon, and the place is quite wild. So a small net/mesh on the window will stop them from entering the bathroom. 2. There are only three rooms on the property - the third one being quite small. Though they can help find additional rooms nearby if the group is larger, but its ideal for six persons or maybe one extra bedding if its possible in one of the larger rooms. 3. Only one room has a bathtub. 4. Keep in mind that in order to provide only fresh, local produce-based meals on time, you need to decide menu and communicate on the previous evening.
Extremely scenic and exceptional location, views, and environment. Mr Johnson is an exceptional manager and has trained butlers, who make every step in the property comfortable for you. I found it better than what has been described and showed! Will certainly go again and again. We reached the property after a few really bad days earlier in our trip - as some members of our group had taken ill. Our meals here, including the welcome tea - hot local brew with tea cakes baked at the property - were more like a therapy for all of us. It healed and energised everyone. The service and the style were exceptional. It will be the number one choice on my Sri Lanka visit, again. The bungalow is a heritage property and has been maintained very tastefully and well, and doesn't feel tired even though it is probably a century old. The cosy drawing cum dining room with unbelievable views made it everyone's favourite and nobody wanted to get into the room! All the comforts are provided in the bathroom and the bedroom, including an AC and even a fireplace! It was very cold when we reached there in the early evening, and they immediately lit up the fireplace for our comfort. Mr Johnson makes sure that his guests are fed exactly on time, served hot and fresh food that is made from the choicest vegetables he procures straight from the farms - basically farm to table in less than a few hours! He understood our food preferences, including Indian vegetarian choices and is fully aware of how to prepare Vegan, Jain and other Indian vegetarian dishes. We had booked all the three rooms on the property and they accommodated our driver for free. There is a huge open space to park. Driver meals were also for a token price so it was a big relief. Sleep quality is very good. The tea estates in the property give an easy access to walk in for a photoshoot and the garden is huge for walks and photoshoots. There is a lovely sit-out - not one but two - to enjoy your tea or a drink.

Absolutely beautiful bungalow with the best service you could ask for. We stayed here three nights. Even though the weather was not in our favor, we still had a wonderful time thanks to the exceptional service provided by the estate manager, Mr. Johnson, and the staff. The bungalow is situated in a secluded location about half an hour from Nuwaraeliya. It's close to a couple of tea factories and the beautiful Ramboda Falls. We had several meals at the bungalow and everything we had was delicious. The service was top notch and staff were so kind and welcoming. We went here to celebrate my dad's birthday, and the staff were kind enough to get him a birthday cake and decorate the bungalow for our celebrations. I highly recommend this place and hope to re-visit sometime.

AustriaThere was nothing that we did not like about the property. Our stay at Highgrove was a flawless experience from start to finish.
We had the pleasure of staying at Highgrove Estate in Labugalla, and it was truly a remarkable experience. The property is nestled amidst the most beautiful natural surroundings, offering breathtaking views of lush green landscapes and majestic mountains. The sunsets at Highgrove Estate are nothing short of spectacular. It's the perfect spot to unwind and witness nature's beauty unfold before your eyes. The meticulously maintained garden provided an ideal setting to enjoy a leisurely cup of tea while taking in the serene atmosphere. What truly sets Highgrove Estate apart is its exceptional staff. The team was not only courteous but seemed to anticipate our needs before we even voiced them. Their attention to detail and commitment to ensuring our comfort was truly remarkable. The food at Highgrove Estate was consistently excellent, and they were more than accommodating when it came to our dietary requirements. Mr. Fernando and his team were always available to assist, yet they managed to do so without ever being intrusive, allowing us to enjoy our privacy. If you're seeking a vacation that promises complete relaxation in a dreamlike and tranquil environment, Highgrove Estate is the perfect destination. In just four days, we were able to shed the year's worth of work-related stress. We can't wait to return to this little piece of paradise and reunite with Mr. Fernando and his wonderful team. Highly recommended!

United Arab EmiratesThe only downside was that the last 200 meters of the road leading up to the estate was quite difficult to drive on,, for those who are not used to such hill roads. It is extremely steep, curvy and narrow. It would be great if the estate could make this part of the road easier to navigate.
Our family recently stayed at Highgrove Estate in Nuwara Eliya and had an amazing experience. This amazingly beautiful planter’s bungalow is situated amidst the lush tea fields, English gardens, and magnificent views of tea fields, valleys, and distant waterfalls. The place is tastefully decorated with period furniture, wooden writing desks, and floor carpets. Equipped with lovely open fireplace. The staff was extremely friendly, they went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The bungalow sits under the shadows of ‘Kondagala’ rock offering spring mountain water; fresh clean air, lovely days and cooler nights kept warm by fireplaces and cozy beds. I would highly recommend Highgrove Estate to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in the hills of Sri Lanka.

Highgrove Estate is a fabulous house with an incredible view. The location is only twenty minutes from Nuwara Eliya centre. The food was great 👍 but the staff was even better. Great service and place to stay at. This beautiful house contains three bedrooms, and the good thing about it is that each reservation is considered individually private . So we are lucky to have this house for our own. Special thanks to Mr Johnson and his crew and the superb team and the chef who made a delicious food 😋

AustraliaThe location isn’t really close to the main town so options to eat out wasn’t available so you’re reliant on eating at the house which was fine for us but If you have a driver the meals for them are quite expensive in comparison to hotels and they don’t really have options to dine close by.
We loved everything about this place and location is amazing and the staff are wonderful and very attentive.

SingaporeAbsolutely nothing it was perfect
Highgrove Estate was everything we were looking for and more. The house is located outside of Nuwara Eliya with stunning 360 degree views. The house is stunningly decorated, the lounge and bedrooms are incredibly comfortable and the food was amazing, especially the breakfasts which we ate outside in the lawn and most of all the Sri Lankan curries. The were the best I’ve ever eaten. what tops off a stay at this beautiful home is the staff and manager of the property who make you feel warmly welcomed at all times and who go out of their way to make your stay so enjoyable. we loved this retreat away from the hustle and bustle (which you can get to easily with a driver or Tuk tuk). the perfect place to relax if you have a busy life and really enjoy nature and the hill country.

The rooms are beautifully maintained, and the beds are exceptionally comfortable — we enjoyed some of the best sleep of our trip here. A real highlight was the dinner: authentic local cuisine, full of flavor, served with great care. What made our stay truly special was the professionalism and warmth of the entire team.
