Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIt cannot be said that we disliked anything at all. It is not a luxury resort, which should not be expected for the price. If there are any suggestions for improvement, it would perhaps be that the rubbish in the rooms is emptied daily. However, the issue of rubbish is somewhat challenging throughout the country.
We were able to have breakfast right at the accommodation; it was plentiful and completely sufficient. However, we also had breakfast a few times at shops in the area. The staff were super friendly, very fond of children, and we found it to be very family-oriented. Kajan, an employee at the hotel, in particular, gave us lots of great tips and also guided us through Trincomalee for a day. We were also lucky enough to get fresh fish from him. The restaurant then prepared the fish for us. All in all, it was a very nice holiday with incredibly nice people. There was free water at the reception, which we also found very pleasant and helpful. They always tried to fulfil almost every wish. We would definitely come back again. The location was also great. Thank you very much for everything! Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

SingaporeI wish the water flow after a shower could have been better. The slope is there on the floor but bathrooms need to be cleaned every day, not every two days. Then it will be much better as floors don’t look like they can still be wet.
It is by the beach, on the beach. Air-conditioned with fans and heater. Beds and mattresses were good. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners were available and staff made special effort to get us a superb lobster fish. Staff are very friendly, helpful, obliging and very keen to help guests have a good time. Jessie the guard dog is specially protective.

United KingdomWe had an enjoyable stay, but wanted to give some honest feedback as the hotel has such amazing potential if they make a couple of improvements. Unfortunately there was no housekeeping throughout our five night stay which meant the room, towels and bins were not cleaned or replaced. No additional bottles of water were provided and no fridge in the room.
Location was incredible, with the beach on your doorstep and some fantastic bars and restaurants nearby. There were plenty of staff around who were all very friendly. The food in the restaurant was good and the room was lovely and clean when we arrived.

United KingdomThe beds on the beach are under some trees, which meant that there was a lot of bird excrement on them and we didn't see them get cleaned during our stay, they could do with a wipe down regularly to make it more pleasant. Rest of the stay was great though!
Location is amazing - right on the beach and you can walk straight out of your room onto it. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Room is good, big comfy bed with aircon and a fan to keep the room cool at night.

AustraliaBeing right behind the restaurant was a little annoying as music was on constantly. The restaurant staff (although a seperate business) were wonderful though and very accomodating. Toilet seat fell off and a constant eggy/sulfuric smell from the bathroom.
Amazing location, right on the beach.

Sri LankaNot a big complaint but our bathroom needed a little improvement. Not sure if this is across the property or just the one room.
We selected this GBC because of its location and we were also given one of their best rooms - a cottage directly on the beach! You step out to a sea view and onto the sand. You can walk out of the room and into the water, which makes relaxing in the sea so convenient. Lots of restaurants along the Uppuveli beachfront and main road that you can enjoy. Close drive to Nilaveli beach as well. Simple but comfortable room. Many plugs to charge things. Addition of kettle and tea-coffee sachets is a nice touch. A/C worked well.

United KingdomIt was noisy - the dogs on the beach barked all night!! Some rooms were not of such a high standard - the huts on the beach were very small and leaky air con. BUT the location made up for any downsides and the price to stay right in the beach made it all worth it!!!
Location, location, location!!! Beautiful beach on your doorstep, lots of fun bars, restaurants nearby to suit all budgets. Staff were lovely - all new and learning but could not have more helpful and polite Fridge in the room was very welcome but cold water, soft drinks and beer available in the bar. Simple snacks and delicious fresh fruit juices - watermelon was amazing!!

United StatesThe original room we were given would have earned only a one star, even though it was right on the beach, it was very outdated and the AC leaked on our charging electronics. The manager gave us a different, newer room the next day that was a little smaller for our family of 4, but the room was clean, upgraded, and a 5 star expereience!
The manager and staff were very accommodating.

AustraliaSome rooms looked good but our two rooms were old and basic. No kettle or fridge. Bathrooms not very clean. Very hot but AC eventually kicked in. I would stay again but I would make sure I was in one of the better rooms. Need cash to pay for stay. Common in Sri Lanka.
Absolute beachfront. Amazing beach. Close to restaurants and boat trips for snorkelling. Price good.

New ZealandIt was still being built while we were there which came with some challenges and teething problems, but that should change pretty quickly as the place is new. Only other thing was music is loud from the restaurant but they are receptive to turning it off if you ask.
Couldn’t ask for a better location! Right on the beach, close enough to the busy parts but not so close that you’re kept up all night with music or traffic. Cottages were great but basic, but that’s reflected in the price which was affordable. Rice ‘n’ Curry is at the end of the street too which is fantastic for dinner.

Really excellent accommodation for the price. This is not luxury but it is wonderfully simple. The room/cabin was clean and the bed comfortable. The cabin was as right on the beech. The beech was idyllic- calm sea, golden sand and great weather- None of it felt contrived or artificial- The location is unspoiled and a real gem. Staff are excellent and the manager (Priya) is really helpful and accommodating. Just great value. We will return 😎

Idyllic location with wonderful staff. We were the first to stay in our brand new room! Kids got to cut the ribbon on the door and we all loved it so much none of us wanted to leave, but we had to as it was all booked out…. We will definitely return one day to see it all finished!

United KingdomBasic rooms with no tv or fridge from what I can remember so quite expensive considering it didn’t have those. Also not the property’s fault but the stray dogs were a nuisance. Quite aggressive and intimidating when you walked past them and very noisy which woke me up very early meaning I couldn’t get back to sleep. Resulted in seeing the sunrise however so swings and roundabouts. My friend in room next to me couldn’t get to sleep for ages because of neighbours upstairs stomping around which was annoying. Don’t think the property offered breakfast and was a struggle to find somewhere to eat before 9am (when our snorkelling trip was booked) as nowhere seemed to be open. Did manage to find somewhere local but only had 10mins to eat before we had to leave
Right on the beach. Rooms were large and clean.

GermanyThe location is really nice but very expensive for such a room we had. The room itself was good but too expensive! Some personal was kind but the Cafe and beach bar is expensive and the personal wasn’t friendly at all. They were intrusive! Anyway we had a good stay because of the nice beach.

Loved the location of the cottage next to the sea, we had cottage 4 Staff were attentive and greeted us with a chilled drink. Watching sunrise, fishermen and birds from location.

CanadaWhen I first arrived I thought oh no because there is a bar restaurant as part of the property right across from the beachfront rooms (2 on ground floor and 2 on second floor). Thankfully when I asked if the music could be turned down or off the staff immediately turned the music down low or off for the time I was there. So you don't have to be afraid to ask the same thing. I would say that for the beachfront rooms they are not cabins like on the rest of the property. The view to the ocean is past covered sunbeds and so it is not an uninterrupted view from the ground floor beachfront suites.
I booked a room with a beach view which was great because I could literally walk barefoot out for a swim and back with just my room key. The room had a powerful and quiet air conditioner, big bed, big bathroom, clothing rack, lots of desk space and a small mini fridge to keep water cold. You get what you pay for.

United KingdomWe were in room 1 and could hear every footstep from the room above, and also, there must be squirrels in the ceiling space that are also loud. Not a great sleep for 3 nights. This is one of the most pricey places we stayed in Sri Lanka.... I'm guessing because of location and not the rooms.
This place is all about location. You are right onto the beach from your room or from the restaurant. There are covered cabanas on the beach to use, although there is no offer of beach towels. The room was a large triple but very basic and in need of some tlc. It was good to have a fridge and a kettle, though. The linens were clean. The Sri Lankan breakfast was outstanding. The western of omelette and sausage was a bit greasy but sufficient. Staff were OK, nothing outstanding. There are a lot of places to eat nearby which is a big bonus for this hotel
