How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe traveled as a party of 9 and had 2 family rooms and 1 double room. The family rooms had beautiful views over the beach and a shared balcony. The hotel is rustic and the bathrooms were basic. For the price, you might expect a higher quality of room and facilities. But it is a hotel right on the beach with only a short walk from room to the sea so you are paying for the location. The hotel manager, Elilan, was amazing. So kind and caring and looked after us during our whole stay. The breakfast is basic and we didn't rate the dinner offering so we opted to eat at different places on Sarvodaya Road where we were spoilt for choice and had delicious meals. The hotel recently changed management and we felt there were lots of issues that should hopefully settle down in time. To justify the pricing, the property does need some work
The family rooms had sliding doors which were very noisy when opened and closed which is not fun when you have people coming and going from the room. The location is beautiful but a lot of noise carried down the beach from other establishments with loud music and bass. This isn't a setting where you can get a good night's sleep.

Verified reviewThis is a lovely little hotel right on the beach front on Trincomalee with lovely little huts to chill out in during the day. It’s rustic and charming and the staff (especially Elil) are very kind, helpful and hospitable. We loved the views and being so close to the ocean and found our stay very comfortable. It’s got an absolutely incredible location.

Verified reviewThis property is extremely dated. It feels like stepping back in time to the 1970’s. Bathroom is extremely humid and not pleasant. Beach is beautiful but this property is very over priced for what it is.

Verified reviewIf you want to stay @ the beach, this is the place - rooms are basic but sufficient and staff do their utmost to help where possible/needed. Wake up and run to the beach or have a nice dinner somewhere @ the beach.

Verified reviewPerfect location, right on the beach, quiet yet close to restaurants. Excellent service with very friendly and helpful staff. Laundry service was great — we dropped off 12 kg of clothes and got them back clean the next day for a very reasonable price. Tasty food and fresh fruit cocktails. Air conditioning worked perfectly. Rooms were simple but clean, and the bathroom was well equipped. Overall, very good value for money.
Table service can be slow, but we found this to be the case in most restaurants in Trincomalee.

Verified reviewNice location on the beach
For such basic rooms, the hotel is completely overpriced in August (but so are all hotels in the region at this period of the year). In other words, Trincomalee as a whole is everything but good value for money in August (3 times the price in Sept).

Verified reviewLocation perfect, directly on the beach with a spectacular view and close to lots of restaurants, bars and beach shops. The waves here are second to none, kids especially spent hours in the sea just jumping waves which were big but safe (end of July is a great time to come to Uppuveli). Fabulous food in the hotel restaurant, best we found in the area. Not so much the breakfasts (altho these were adequate) but we came back for their Sri Lankan cuisine for supper every day. You really MUST try the veggie kotthu (v reasonable at 800lkr (about $2.50) while you’re there. Very kind and charming service from Eli and the rest of the team. It was my son’s birthday while we were there and they made a special effort with greetings, well wishers and freebies. We had one beachfront room (“Double room with sea view”) — an enviable location with a decking area on the beach, excellent view of the sunrise, palm trees swaying and local fishermen bringing in the day’s catch — fascinating to watch, and one right at the back of the resort (“Standard triple”). We appreciated the amenities which came with both rooms: aircon, private decking area with seating, welcome drying rack for each room, tap outside each room for washing off sand, towels for both bathroom and beach provided.
On the downside, I think the property is overpriced. Whilst we absolutely LOVED our stay and the staff were very good, the property is nonetheless basic and its top feature is the location and aircon. However it cost nearly double what some nearby properties with similar facilities were charging. Felt a bit ill-advised regarding snorkelling and other activities. We came here partly to see whales and dolphins but by end of July whale sightings had dwindled to none (last sighting was around 21st July) so we opted not to do the expensive boat trip and instead did a expensive turtles snorkelling trip which we booked through the hotel and regretted. The company the hotel uses is good but it involves driving to Trincomalee first and is almost double the price of other identical services, and we saw just one turtle. I’d recommend turning right and walking up the beach from the hotel and asking along there for diving/dolphin trips/Pigeon Island/turtle snorkelling excursions instead.

Verified reviewVery big and comfortable room just a few steps from the beautiful white sand beach. Restaurant and bar open all day. Excellent service from the staff through our stay.
Would have liked a fridge in our room and hot water but neither were much of a problem.

Verified reviewLocation was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Plus the food was nice.
The beds were not that comfortable. Unfortunate the toilet leak after you flushed it in the bathroom. People from other hotels would use the hotels sun lounges.

Verified reviewThe location is really beautiful. Our room was basic but was right at the beach so we weren’t complaining at all. Honestly, we would like to give a special thanks to Elil, who was amazing from start to finish. Always helping you with a smile and nothing was too much to ask. That pretty much sums up the place. Location is amazing and the staff seriously made the place even more beautiful.
Only thing to say is that the rooms are a bit basic, yet the place you’re doesn’t invite to stay in your room anyway :)

Verified reviewThe hotel was right on the beach with reserved seating right on the beach. The staff is super attentive and made food from scratch for us. It very much feels like a resort with most of the rooms facing the beach.
There isn't a lot to do in the area besides beach activities, so plan for that. But snorkeling, whale watching, etc., are available in the area.
Thank you 🙏

Verified reviewExcellent location - right at the beach, we loved the sea view! The beach is phenomenal, not overcrowded and fine sand- and there are hammocks and some basic, self-built sun lounges. Near restaurants and bars in easy walking distance, yet a bit away from the main streets, so the music from the nearby bars/discos is less loud, but good choice and variety- we wanted to stay in a place where you can eat in multiple different reataurants. That said, very nice breakfast and also overall hotel restaurant food, like in most places in Sri Lanka, bring lots of time, it is slow and laid back, but you are rewarded with delicious dishes. The restaurant kitchen can be looked into and it is clean and of higher standard than elsewhere. The staff, esp. the manager on duty / head waiter was extremely kind. Spacious room with good AC and plenty of space, convenient shelves. No mosquito nets- but also no mosquitoes! That made it very comfortable. We would have much prefered wooden floor or tiles though, instead of the carpet in the room, for hygiene reasons. We got onward car transportation arranged through the hotel, which worked reliably- can recommend. We had a wonderful time chilling in the hammocks, swimming and enjoying the beach.
The bathroom needs improvement. Overall, the hotel will need further upgrades to justify the price level, we got far higher standard for less elsewhere.
Thank you 🙏

Verified reviewRight on the beach and a lovely and wonderful staff. The manager in particular (Elil) is super helpful and can sort anything.
The newer more expensive rooms have high ceilings and don’t get fully cooled with the AC units.
Thank you 🙏
