Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandThe rooms need a serious upgrade and there is no heating so it was absolutely freezing in the room.
The position is great to visit Nuwara and the old England vibe js spot on. Room was clean. Great to have the shower blocked off from the toilet area (not common in Sri Lanka!)

AustraliaAt around 10pm at night some night staff had a mini party with strawberry cake, loud music on the hallway speaker outside the small office and they spoke in loud voices like they were calling out down the hallway. This went on for at least 30 minutes. I spoke to them. They turned off the music, but the loud voices continued.
The old world English colonial charm was great. The daytime staff were very pleasant.

AustraliaRooms are tired and in need of a refresh - good to hear that this is in the plans for 2025.
Excellent location, beautiful garden in a lovely old English style building. Our family enjoyed the snooker table with views of the hills behind Nuwara Eliya. Staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly and accommodating - a special mention goes to Benedict and the serving staff who were very attentive. Helpful front of house staff assisted in organising transport and a beautiful day trip to tea factories and a waterfall walk. Beds are comfortable and rooms quiet.

United KingdomAdvertised as a colonial experience, but showed signs of being a little run down Dull lighting, facilities (e.g. fridge, lights) didn't work. Compared with other hotels in Sri Lanka, we paid twice the price, but with no better facilities.

BelgiumRooms are a bit outdated and could use a renovation.
Staff was very welcoming. We were offered a cup of tea and a warm towel to warm up when we arrived (it was a cold and rainy day) before showing us to our rooms. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Very cosy bar and restaurant with great food and superb service.

United KingdomUpgraded to a suite on arrival. Lovely big room with massive, clean, comfortable bed. Bathroom was old, but clean. Food was very good. Snooker room was a bonus, as it was tipping down when we arrived. Staff were very attentive, & helpful. 'English' garden was immaculate, with so many pretty flowers, & topiary elephants & birds.

FranceThe coverage of the internet was not so good in the room, but this had been a good way to disconnect and enjoy the place!
I recommend the Glendower hotel. The staff were very welcoming and always on hand to answer any queries. The hotel is of a reasonable size and is not a huge concrete building hotels, as it can be the case in the Nuwara Eliya area. The atmosphere is very cosy and all the staff are very attentive to making your stay as pleasant as possible. A cosy bar and a billiards room give it an English club charm, and you'll love sipping an evening cocktail at the happy hour in one of the comfortable sofas or big armchairs in the bar room or one of the adjoining rooms, even by the fire (yes, Nuwara Eliya is at an altitude of almost 1900 m). The room was comfortable and equipped with beautiful colonial wooden furniture. We also had an evening dinner at the restaurant of the hotel and the food was excellent. All of these make it a unique place to choose for an excellent stay in this nice city.

IndiaInadequate illumination in the room. Comforters were inadequate for the temperature and we started feeling cold in the morning. The night we stayed, the temperature was down to 8 degree celcius .
The colonial architecture and nostalgic interiors make it lovely place to stay.. The location is excellent.. Check in was pleasant and quick.

United KingdomRooms were dated, but also in need of a good clean and redecoration. For example, carpet in room was torn and stained, around handle of white door it was very dirty. Bathroom was clean on surface, so absolutely felt sanitary, but it was a bit musty. It's not a bad location, as next to the Grand Hotel, which had plenty of restaurants (albeit pricey). But I suspect there are more convenient and dare I say it slightly more up to date, places to stay
Quirky building, felt very random to have a quaint country pub vibe! Nice staff, and breakfast (Sri lankan breakfast) was superb, absolutely delicious and best we had in sri lanka first week of trip. All in all it was fine, but we have been spoilt by more value for money locations so this did feel basic in terms of cleanliness and quality.

ThailandNothing really, the room was nice. We knew it was going to be a sort of 'colonial style' place and that is what we experienced.
A special mention to Benedict, the restaurant manager. He was incredibly helpful and such a nice guy. Nothing was too much trouble for him.

AustraliaThere were a few areas that could use improvement. The rooms felt a bit dark and cluttered, and the bathrooms were not as clean as expected. Additionally, there was no kettle provided to make tea, which would have been a nice convenience. While we understand that the hotel has an old-world charm and character, these issues could be easily addressed to enhance the overall guest experience.
The staff's attentiveness and the delicious food greatly enhanced our stay, making it even more delightful. From the moment we arrived, the experience was amazing, especially when we were welcomed with a delightful cup of Cinnamon Tea, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were exceptionally friendly and supportive, particularly Benedict, who took great care of us throughout our stay. His dedication and constant check-ins to ensure our comfort were truly commendable and greatly appreciated

FinlandBeing a historical building, the premises are naturally dated but they are being kept clean. The current owners have already started to renovate and that will make the hotel shine it’s glory soon again. Meanwhile, ear plugs may be useful as the sound isolation on doors, windows and walls is quite weak. Still, the unique atmosphere and personalized service makes this hotel worth of staying!
This hotel has a unique atmosphere as a historical building. With only 9 rooms they are able to give each guest very personalised and attentive service. The management and staff is very friendly, professional and service oriented. They all made a good job and especially Benedict in the restaurant went the extra mile(s!) to make as enjoy our stay at the Glendower. They have a nice bar, very good restaurant and beautiful Garden. Their breakfast service is wonderful. Also the location is very central. This is a real gem, if you prefer unique Hotels with character!

Sri LankaThe cleanliness could be vastly improved with little cost and effort and attention to detail, i.e fingerprints on the walls and the door, the head of the recliner
The best part of this hotel is the staff and the way they make you feel at home. And the location couldn't be any better. Being a small hotel it feels like a home away from home. The dinner and breakfast were both adequate and good. This is our second visit within 3 months and hope to go back again soon.
