Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Saudi ArabiaThe moment we arrived, we were greeted by smiling faces and flowers. the staff were so warm and The bungalow itself was charming, with wide veranda where we had our breakfast every day among the tea fields. The beds were impossibly soft, wrapped in fresh linen. Every meal was a delight. The in-house chef, prepared everything from fragrant biryanis and grilled vegetables and local fish seasoned to perfection. the staff specially Mr. Manu made the stay unforgettable their kindness felt genuine, their hospitality effortless.

United KingdomSharing it with other guests!! No, we met some lovely people while we were there. You do have to bear in mind that this is an old bungalow and the restoration has been sympathetically applied to keep its authenticity. There are some quirky aspects but that is part of its charm. The approach road could be an issue unless you have a 4x4. This is seasonal as the rains wash away the surface each year. The bungalow provides a shuttle bus for your convenience when the road is particularly bad. I was told between August and December a new top layer is usually applied.
The property is in a beautiful setting about half an hour from Nuwara Eliya. Perfect for the time of year when we went as it’s usually dryer slightly east towards the end of the Monsoon. The staff were amazing and treated us like royalty. Manu and Morgan in particular, were on hand to assist us with anything we needed. The chefs produced excellent food too - we prefer rice and curry and they were happy to cook whatever we wished. The default menu in the bungalow is usually a four course western dinner. The afternoon snacks were a particular highlight for us, relaxing, sitting watching the palm squirrels and bird life in the beautifully maintained garden. The walks around the bungalow are very accessible and you can see the tea harvesting first hand. I believe you can visit the local tea factory too and the last stage of the Pekoe Trail is not far away. The bungalow is surrounded by the little village which contains the tea workers’ houses, with all the atmosphere that entails. I was amazed to discover a visitors book which had entries from relatives of mine from the 1940s to the 1970s. In fact, the book was a significant historical document, charting the changes in the tea industry and recording visitors during times such as World War II.

NetherlandsWe absolutely loved our stay at the Scottish Planter Bungalow! The warmth and kindness of the staff made us feel right at home—everyone was so sweet and caring. Although it’s a bit of a drive from Nuwara Eliya, the bungalow offers a peaceful retreat where you can wake up to the sound of birdsong. A heartfelt thank you to the whole team for being so lovely to our little daughter 😊 If you’re someone who enjoys places with history and charm, the Scottish Planter is a fantastic choice!

IndiaReaching the place is a bit hard as it is about 21 km from Nuwara Eliya. Uber charged us about 2700 LKR. However the hotel sent a driver to pick us up 2kms from the main road.
The property is 150 yrs old but well maintained. The overall aura of the place, surrounded by lush green forests is an experience everyone must try. Extra sweet staff is readily available at your call.

United Arab EmiratesOur stay was truly out of this world! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning location—right in the heart of a lush tea estate, with breathtaking views in every direction. The serenity and beauty of the surroundings made it feel like a dream. The staff went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional—warm, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile which especially important if you are traveling with small kids . The food was another highlight: delicious, authentic, and beautifully presented at every meal. Plus we enjoyed amazing and ad hoc dinner set up to celebrate birthday. Room was lovely - stylish & very comfortable. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with top-notch service, mouthwatering cuisine, and a setting that feels like it’s straight out of a postcard, this is the place. We can't wait to return! Overall rating: 11 out of 10.

The scenic location. The quiet. Stepping back in time imagining the lifestyle of living in a tea plantation in a manor house. Delicious 3-course meal with a fire raging just for us. Very attentive and gentle mannered staff who were happy to include us in a tree planting ceremony too.

IndiaWe stayed at Scottish Planter – Glendevon Bungalow from April 22–24, 2025, and it was truly one of a kind. Nestled in the tranquil hills of Ragala, this heritage bungalow dating back to 1880 welcomed us with warmth, serenity, and unmatched hospitality. After a long 16-hour journey with my infant son, wife, and mother, we arrived at 10:30 PM — yet everything was perfectly arranged for us, thanks to Manusanka, the ever-gracious property manager. From coordinating a pick-up van for the 1.2 km off-road trail to ensuring we had everything we needed upon arrival, his care made us feel right at home. The bungalow itself is a living piece of history — impeccably maintained, tastefully appointed, and surrounded by lush greenery, landscaped gardens, and the peaceful sounds of nature. The set-course meals were absolutely delicious — every dish was prepared with love and left us wanting more. A special thank you to Kapila, who attended to us throughout our stay with kindness and attentiveness. Whether it was adjusting breakfast to suit our preferences or ensuring we had everything we needed, he truly made a difference. This is a remote getaway, and that’s exactly its charm. Birdsong by day, starry skies by night, and the pure stillness of nature all around — it’s a place to disconnect and truly rejuvenate. We’re grateful for the experience and look forward to returning again. Thank you, Manusanka, for your incredible hospitality — and for the lovely conversations we’ll always remember. Wishing you and the entire Scottish Planter Bungalow team all the very best!

Sri LankaThe access road to the bungalow is a little arduous particularly for cars or vehicles with hardly any road clearance. But the property arranges for a shuttle service to take you up and down, so that was indeed useful.
The ambience, the food and hospitality was exceptional. The chef is clearly very skilled at curating delicious dishes made from natural yet simple ingredients. The scenery was amazing, serene and tranquil. Ideal for a relaxing vacation. The staff were very polite, helpful and courteous.

AustriaNothing we did not like, we would just recommend to have a driver taking you up there. The personnel will tell them the exact way, but I honestly would not have liked to drive a car up to the bungalows myself since I’m not used to these a bit more difficult roads as a city person.
This hotel is something very special. It takes you back in time, offering to stay in a historical place. The food was lovely, and the staff at Scottish Planter Bungalow is another level. We were welcomed so nicely and you could tell that everyone tries their very best to make your stay unforgettable. We are very grateful.

United StatesThe road leading up to the property from the main road isn't in great condition. There are some sections that are bumpy, low and narrow. They have separate parking at a convenient location and they will pick up/ drop off by tuk (we didn't use it) so make sure to inquire about it. There wasn't wifi or a TV in the rooms which could be an issue for some people. Also, if you are looking for activities and fun things to do, things are a bit far from this place so planning ahead is key.
The property and garden is very beautiful and very well-maintained. It's nestled in the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of Nuwaraeliya so if you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet, this is it. The manager, Manu and staff members were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. We loved the fact that the staff members were flexible and attentive to our specific needs. We hiked Ravana Rock (moderate intensity, ~2.5 hours total), which is located close to the property. Breakfast By Chef Bandula was exceptional. The milk rice was one of the best we have ever had. The tea was also absolutely perfect. All in all, it was a perfect stay and would love to come back!

BangladeshThe place was amazing, a bit out of the city, though. The road to the bungalow can be a bit tricky in the dark, but it’s very scenic during the day. Not much going on at night, so definitely wake up early to make the most of it.

Sri LankaHowever, there were two minor issues we encountered. The Jacuzzi was out of order despite being advertised as available for complimentary use, though we did get to use the sauna. Additionally, we had booked a Farquharson room with one double bed but were given a Macnaughton room with two single beds. While the staff arranged them together, it was not the exact setup we had initially booked. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would love to return. Thank you for the great hospitality!
We had a wonderful stay at the Scottish Planter Bungalow. The experience was truly memorable, and we enjoyed every moment of it. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the roasted pumpkin soup and the fresh salad at dinner. A special mention to Mr. Thennakoon and Mohan, who were incredibly kind and helpful, ensuring we had a great experience. Their service was excellent. Our room was cozy, and we particularly loved the herbal shower gel made of cinnamon—it had a delightful fragrance. One of the highlights of our stay was the 3km outdoor walk through the tea plantations before breakfast. The scenery was breathtaking, and it made the breakfast even more enjoyable.

KyrgyzstanIt is a bit far from the old town, but it is not a problem at all if you understood that beforehand and planned to explore the town before or after stay in the property
The place gives an amazing experience — you literally feel as if you were a guest on a tea plantation in the beginning of the 20th century. The staff couldn’t be more helpful — even during the rain the manager took us for a nice walk along the plantation and told a lot about the tea making and the life in the area. The room was very stylish, the food was great and nicely served. Even though the place is a bit far, the team organised a driver who brought us to the station for a very early train Despite the age of the house which has a long history, there is everything you may need. And the house and plantation history itself is one of biggest part of experience
