How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Where do I start. You list it at 1.8km from Ella but it’s 4.8km in reality. I’ve traveled for 45 years and this has to be the dirtiest place I’ve stayed in. All the room linen was stained and I believed used. The descriptions are nowhere near reality. My photos show soap eaten by rats. Ants in the sugar that they serve at breakfast. Mould on the mats used to drain crockery. Bags of empty bottles stored in “children’s play area”. Empty bottles blowing around the rooms. Dirty bed linen. Dirty towels. Mattress was paper thin and I used dirty bed linen to provide more padding. Dead beetles on the bedroom floor. My brother had a hair in his fruit on the first morning. There was strangers hair on the floor in the bathroom. Not enough water pressure to actually fill the shower head. I tried to cancel before we arrive due to the distance from town but couldn’t. We canceled the 2nd night’s booking but couldn’t get into the hotel recommended to us and figured we were already contaminated so we stayed the second night. I’ll be seeking a refund.

To date, we have not had any reports of rats or cockroaches, and we are concerned that there may have been isolated incidents. We will certainly look into the matters you raised to ensure our standards are upheld. Before your arrival, you requested a refund, which we politely explained was not possible as your booking was made under a last-minute offer. As per the terms of this offer, cancellations are not allowed. We strive to be transparent about our policies, and we appreciate your understanding on this matter. Upon your arrival, we noticed that you raised concerns about the facilities, such as air conditioning and a TV in the room. We would like to clarify that these amenities were not advertised or included in the room description, and we apologize if this caused any confusion. Regarding your stay, we initially allowed you to depart after one night when you expressed your desire to leave early. However, after breakfast the next morning, you decided to stay another night, which we were happy to accommodate. Please note that your booking was made at a very affordable rate of just US$9 per person, including Booking.com’s commission. Verified reviewMy wife and I had a wonderful stay with Samit and his family! Their effort to make sure we had a wonderful time in Ella was second to none. Their location, 3km from Ella town, is perfect for those who want to be a little out of the noise but still be in the middle of everything there is to do in the area. It is beautiful and quiet. Communication was fantastic, Samit's knowledge of the area and good things to do while in Ella was excellent. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was another thing! A varied and amazing spread, we never managed to finish and always took some out for packed lunches. We recommend having at least one dinner! Really delicious fresh local food. We had a wonderful time in Ella town and highly recommend Ella Peaceful Heaven Homestay as the perfect base to explore the region.

It’s wasn’t as peaceful as we had imagined. The sounds of cicadas at night and temple prayer in the morning disrupted our sleep a bit. The rooms and bedsheets weren’t super clean - especially the blankets provided. If the place is full, don’t expect any hot water or enough water pressure to get a nice shower.

Verified reviewWe rented three rooms for five adults over four nights and had a truly memorable stay. Ella Peace Heaven feels more like a homestay than a hotel- the family lives on the ground floor, while most guest rooms are upstairs so you still have your own space. Every morning, we enjoyed freshly prepared Sri Lankan breakfasts, and you can also request dinners made with fresh ingredients from their garden at incredibly reasonable prices. The rooms are simple but comfortable, with spacious bathrooms and small balconies offering beautiful views. Some rooms include bug nets and fans, depending on your booking. The property also features a welcoming terrace with hammocks, where you can relax while spotting a variety of birds, including many peacocks- it’s like a little peacock paradise! The location is about a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride from Ella (around 1000 rupees). We appreciated staying outside the busy town, surrounded by views of the temple and tea plantations, which offered a peaceful, serene atmosphere. Samith and his family were exceptionally warm and welcoming, sharing insider tips and making us feel like part of their home. They are such a lovely family, ready to help or answer any questions we had or just indulge in our general Sri Lankan curiosity. I highly recommend Ella Peace Heaven for an authentic Sri Lankan homestay experience!
As is common in Sri Lanka the WIFI was pretty spotty - I recommend loading up on data anyways when you are traveling here. Sometimes the water pressure was low - but they are working on it! ;)

A bit far from the centre but that's not a problem if you want to relax around the hotel.
